Easy to make pottery but not too strong. . This pottery wheel is a lot of fun for my 11 year old daughter. The first time we use it, she did not add enough water to the clay, so the machine labored quite a bit. It then shut off to cool for about 10 minutes. It came back on after that. She now kneads more water into her clay before putting it on the wheel so the machine does not labor too much. She really likes it. You can purchase refill packs of the clay as well. The wheel moves at one speed that is fairly slow. The only real downside that I can see is that it is a bit loud. But it is not a nuisance to us.

Wheel didn't work . I bought this for my granddaughter for her birthday and was very disappointed that it didn't work. We put in new batteries and the wheel would turn for a a minute or two at a time and then stop. We gave up after about 10 minutes and put it back in the box.

Pleasantly surprised! . I didn't have much hope for a pottery wheel/kit in this price range. But my daughter wanted one so I decided to take a chance on it. I must say, it works better than I expected. The wheel spins at a good pace and is controlled by a foot pedal that is easy to operate by my 8-year old. The instruction booklet is very thorough and has tips for making operation easy. The clay does slip off the wheel at times but if you follow the advice in the book and dry off both the wheel and the clay, it seems to work better. The only frustration is in making anything more involved than a small, shallow dish or "pinch pot". I hope with more practice she/we will be able to make the taller vase that's on the box.

good toy for toddlers . We had a paper aquadoodle first, it was taped to the wall and lasted for about a year with my toddler daughter drawing on it almost everyday, until my 14 months son decided to rip it one day. We replaced it with this deluxe version. It appears to be made of a durable material that my son won't be able to rip off, but it also seems to not draw on as well as paper, but overall I still think it's an awesome product for toddlers who like to draw.

Perfectly Clean Mess . I love the idea of having creative kids, but am not in love with making a mess every time they want to pull out markers or paint. For young children still learning how to "stay inside the lines" or on the paper for that matter, this is a great fit. The mat has lasted years (I bought ours 3 years ago). I have since passed it on to a friend with younger kids. It's still going strong.

cheap stuff . I feel betrayed by this product. The box is so neat and you would think that there are 100 colors in there, but there are in fact less than 50, the colors are too light and, worst of all, it brakes easily (and I've had it for only three days, you see). I regret buying it. Next time I will stick with crayola.

Stick with Crayola! . We have this seemingly awesome collection of crayons from Alex. Mt girls were so excited to receive them. They are really into coloring and who doesn't love a brand new set of crayons? Other Alex products have never disappointed me, but these are awful. They break. They do not color true to color. There are repetitive colors so not nearly 100 different ones. They color like very cheap crayons and we ended up getting rid of the set. Too bad. A great, fun concept gone terrible wrong with sub-par product. Stick with trusty Crayola and save your money!

Lots or sorting and prepare to supervise your 8 year old . When the box was opened I found all of the pieces mixed together. For the next 30 minutes I sorted and counted the pieces to be sure none were missing. Everything was fine. If the pieces had already been individually packaged in plastic bags, however, a lot of sorting time would have been saved and I would have been spared the wrong initial impression that I had received a returned item. After confirming all of the pieces were there, I reviewed the instructions with my son. The toy is rated 8+ so I got it for my 8 year old son. Though he's a whiz at legos, this was a challenge for him. I'm glad I purchased the item because it gives me a project that I can work on with him. If, however, you plan on being hands-off in the creation of this castle, it might be better to wait until your child is 9 or 10 years of age.

Anne's review . Our 7 year old granddaughter was enchanted with the sewing machine and bead applicator. After a short session of instruction and supervision, she took off on her own and practiced with the sewing machine and the bead applicator. We made a simple doll dress and figured out that one must turn fabric around at end of seam before cutting thread and stitch back along same seam to prevent pulling out the entire row of stitches.

I would very much like to know where one can purchase more beads to use in the bead applicator.

My daughter loved it... . I thought the price was a little steep for the quality of the toy, but my daughter loved it for the entire 2 weeks that she had it. And then the rabbit chewed the the power cord cable... But I would say that if you are looking for a toy machine to teach the kids to sew its worth it.

Big Mistake . This sewing machine was a BIG MISTAKE. It did not work. It would stitch for about 1" then the thread would come out of the needle. It was hard to rethread. Not fun at all. Purchase was for 8 yr. She was heart broken.

Cons Review

Un safe product . this product has a tendency to tip while sewing. I put my grandchildren on a real machine for only 10 more dollars.

I then didn't have to worry about them getting stuck with the needle when it tipped and they garbed for it. Then they also had enough power to really sew.

First Sewing Machine . When I saw it, I wanted it ...so I bought it for my 9 year old niece. For a beginner sewing machine, I was impressed that it had a foot pedal and that it was a functional (on a small level)sewing machine. It came with projects for beginners to learn basic skills. I was not expecting it to be used to make a wardrobe so, I really liked the simplicity of it and did not have much expectations. I know video games are more popular with kids and she may have initially preferred a DSi but at the end, she seems to really enjoy it and has made some small purses and small quilts. She learned a skill and doesn't realize it. I was nervous about the safety of such a toy. I recommend as a gift for an older child and supervision. Its quite sturdy and performs well. I would rather have bought it at the store and not online but it arrived before Xmas and it was in excellent condition.

Frustrating Kitty machine . This machine is very difficult to thread, and so risks frustrating and "turning" off a potential young sewer. Adults found it hard to get at the needle, removing the needle guard etc. Would not recommend this machine. I will end up teaching my grand-daughters on a regular machine. I recall a jnr. machine that I had as a child, it was user friendly, and this one is not.

Handled the butchering of my 26 cows! With enough left over for my kid to make a dozen giant paper airplanes! . Finally a butcher paper worth writing a review about! I slaughter almost 2,600 cows a year and there's just nothing worse after a long day of slitting throats and yanking out entrails than to have your fresh meat crash to the saw dust covered floor because of substandard butcher paper. These guys know how to make butcher paper, the blood just slides right off! And it's easy to write on, too! I honor the memory of each cow I kill by writing his or her name on the wrapped meat parcels, and whether I use a crayon or a marker, I can be sure that name will stay on there until my customers throw the paper away.

Cons Review

Misleading to state 40# weight - Its thinner than 20# copy paper . I was quite DISAPPOINTED after receiving this 18"x900' roll of white butcher paper (Boardwalk BUTCH1840900; about $29). It is so thin that it can be readily used as tracing paper. By claiming #40 weight I expected to get paper a little thicker than common typing/copy paper. It turns out that 20# typing paper is 25 percent heavier than this paper (equivalent 16#). After some research on a couple of paper industry sites it seems that manufacturers measure the "basis weight" differently for different types of paper. This allows the presumably technically accurate, but misleading, claim of 40# paper. Also, it is unsuitable as true butcher paper because there is no moisture barrier film. Even for dry wrapping you will need multiple layers in most applications. The seller should have known what its customers expect and described it in such terms.I was hoping to use this as drawing paper for sketches and patterns in my shop. Now I have 1350 square feet of tracing paper, at best.The good: cheap, includes plastic end caps for dispenser mounting rod
The bad: way thinner than reasonably expected, translucent, too heavy to return to seller for refundI would not buy this again. It would be better to pay more for a useful roll of paper.

Lacking . All items were present and accounted for in the kit. However, the 'some assembly required' did not include instructions nor measurements for DRILLING holes into the box in order to make it an actual easel. Very dissatisfied with the product as it does not meet its said function.

Packing horrible making the product bad . I love to buy in Amazon, however some time to time I get packages like this one. Everything inside was scramble and one of the parts was broken, so I am not sure if I will be able to assembly anymore. All the little tubes with the paint were floating around the box and one of the caps was missing. Another thing is that one of the paint tubes had an small hole on it and when I tried to use it I found it was dry.

Grandson overjoyed! . This was ordered for 2-year old grandson. He LOVES to color, "draw" pictures, etc. to the best of his creative ability. This roll is handy as it can be used in smaller-size pieces if needed or large for his easel and even spread out on the floor.

Perfect Paper for Projects . I bought this paper for my son and his cousins to use with school projects and such. It is excellent paper for that purpose. It is also useful for place mats for other messy projects and can be used as thick wrapping paper to go under the pretty wrapping paper to protect Christmas gifts under the tree from prying eyes.

Alex Toys Easel Paper Roll Opinions
Not white paper it is newspaper style paper . I bought this roll as a replacement to the roll of paper that came with our Alex art table. It was a great price and I thought it would be a great deal. Unfortunately when it came I was disappointed to see that it was not the same bright white, thick roll of Alex paper I expected. Instead it was clearly printed on the label that it was "Newspaper" paper. It was dull, very thin, prone to tearing paper. It's still usable, that's why I didn't give it one star, but I will not be ordering this paper again.
