Great Gift for Year after Year . My daughter received a scratch art kit last year and she truly enjoyed it. Although it has no real "educational" value it allows any level of "artist" the flexibility to be creative. Even just a simple line or doodle looks majical after making the mark. I am again buying a kit for my daughter's birthday and an extra to save as a birthday gift to have on hand for the next birthday party we're invited too! You will NOT be dissappointed.

better for the under 10 crowd . I recall enjoying this project as a child in school. My sister gave this item to my daughter for her birthday last week. She loved it. It is a bit different from the cheapos at the dollar tree (refer to last review). This comes with a variety of colorful envelopes, that the paper actually fits into when folded. The scratch off paper comes in different colors (beneath the black scratch off stuff too). There is gold, silver, flourescent, and rainbow. My Daughter just loved picking thru the colors and selecting a particular one for her creation. She also used the simple stencils that came with it. It was easy for her to use, it was a "blank canvas" for her to be creative, and we mailed the suckers away when she was done with them (so they aren't cluttering up my house :). She enjoyed sending mail to her friends, and there is a social studies aspect to these, and the educational value of learning how to address and send a letter. Also, fine motor skills and creativity.

Scratch=Art Kit . Why do parents think all toys must be educational? My daughter loves this. I bought it for her artistic ability. She loves to draw, I love to teach her to draw, and this scratch art is a childs way to express themselves. Besides learning, there is also FUN, and art is an important element in our lives. Buy it, if they love to draw, then they will enjoy this.

nice but overpriced . my 5 year old daughter loved it, but it last 3 days in her hands, let's face it, this is too expensive for a set of 25 sheets of paper. From the previous reviews I thought that there would be more to it than just paper, but there isn't. Again, it's nice, but it's just paper, I would rather put my money in something she could use more.

Needs to be more durable . These stamps looked great on the website, unfortunately when my first graders put any type of force on the stamps when pushing into the stamp pad, the red stamp holders are hollow and they crack. My students have used them for 3 weeks, 4 to 6 letters of each set is cracked. Home use is probably ok, but not for classroom use.

crayola color . got this for my 7 year old daughter. it was easy to set up and once i showed her she was able to play with it on her own. the way it works is that the paper sheets have color blotches underneath a black coating. the pens erase the coating and the color shows through. I gave it 2 stars becuase even though it was fun at first making the different designs it was short lived. after about 7 or 8 sheets the ink in both pens started run dry. by the 10th sheet it really wasn't working so well. by the time she was done the ink pens (came with two) had pretty much run dry and she was left with extra paper. i would not recommend this product.

Crayola Color Explosion Designer . I bought this toy for my 9 yr. old Grandaughter, and she loves it. She is always playing with. And it allows her to use her imagination and be creative.

Okay markers run out very fast . So, this product was fun at first, until the markers ran out during my first design. Despite using the cleaner thing, niether of the markers work very well. However, it would be fine with regular paper and regular pencils/markers/etc.

Cons Review

Save your money! . I thought these would be all stickers of princess characters and something to occupy my daughter's time in the car or at church. I did not know that most of them are small and "good job" or "wow" stickers. At least I didn't pay too much, but I could have found something better with my $5.00.
So save your money.

Princess Love . My daughter is into the whole princess thing (don't even know when she picked it up). She also loves stickers - thus the reason I bought these!

There are a few sheets of each type. Several of them are super small round stickers (somewhat useless when a 2 year old is trying to put them on your shirt). I wish all the stickers were slightly larger. I also wish they were slightly more sticky. Not the cheapest stickers I've ever purchased, but close.

Cute . I got these for my daughter to entertain her on a long car ride. She ended up peeling the stickers off and sticking them all over her body, it was so cute. There are a loooot of stickers on each page. They are either round (like the size of a dime) or square (the size of a stamp). They stick pretty well (she had them on the rest of the day)

Looks like Amazon might have this way overpriced . I just found what appears to be this same PlayDoh BBQ set at the Toys R Us website for $11.99. Since Amazon is charging $29.99, I thought the Toys R Us set must be smaller, so I headed back to their site and studied the photo carefully. They appear to be the exact same set, both weighing around 10 ounces.I've never left a review for something I haven't yet purchased, but I thought other budget-conscious shoppers would appreciate the heads up. I gave it four stars so I wouldn't significantly affect the toy's Amazon reputation for the worse. Plus, we've always been very happy with the many, many PlayDoh play sets we've bought over the past 10 years, so I figure the BBQ set will also be a fun, quality toy.Slam me if you will, but I always appreciate other reviewers steering me toward better prices when the cost difference is this considerable.BTW, I'm buying this set for my 5 year old son who loves to serve me SpongeBob crabby patties and other fast food type stuff he makes out of Legos. Fun Play-doh toy . This is a fun little bbq set. The "bbq" is actually just a picture on a piece of paper and you can imagine how long that will last if it doesn't blow away first. The set is a little difficult to figure out and is geared more toward the advanced play doh users. But there are a lot of different items you can make and play with so even if you can't make perfect hot dogs (my 3 year olds have a hard time)it is still a lot of fun.

Includes the necessary dough to grill up enough fake hamburgers for the whole family.This is a little more of an "advanced" Play-Doh set; have to spend time teaching about how a grill works - where to put the food, where all the "stamps" are located (to make the different food items) - especially if you rarely grill out in real life (like us).Additionally, if your kid hates meat (like ours) and you mistakenly purchased this set instead of another one (like I did), the enjoyability factor based on product description and intended use may diminish quite a bit. Still, ours found a way to conjure up other ways to use it and have fun - the roasting spit was a highlight.

Well worth it . This is a great craft and then toy for girls. The projects are all packaged individually so that you don't have to figure out which pieces go for which food to make. Everything is pre punched for the girl who is learning to sew. My 6 year old and I are working on them together. Some may be harder then others so I've choosen the easier ones first. It will be a project to do over time, adding a different treat each time. I think they will make nice treats for my daughter to play with when she plays with her American Girl Doll. We keep it separated from her other dolls. These are special treats to be handled properly or they might loose their shape. It is not for little girls who toss everything in a pile. It is nice to have young girls things to do with out pushing them to grow up so fast.

When you put it together no matter how you follow the direction(which are really bad directions) They dont look anything like the box. It looks like something a 2 year old made. Just search Felt food patterns and buy them on line and make them. Thats what I ended up having to do.

great sewing project for young kids . I bought this for my 7 yr old niece who is starting to enjoy the basics of sewing. Her mom helped her with it and said they both really enjoyed it. Alex is a great brand that I always trust. My daughter saw this and wanted one too, she is only 4. I got one for her and I'm sure she'll be able to do it too with help from her mother who loves to sew!

Great for teaching patience! . I bought this for our 7 yr old and admit it was a little difficult for her. As with any beginning needlework; tangling the thread and making correct stitches can be a frustrating. I think she will enjoy it even more when she is a bit older, of course then I don't know if her interest in playfood will last. Overall, I do enjoy kits like this, it teaches patience, survival skills and is more practical than most toys!

this is not the easy project it should be . I'm working on this with my daughter... this kit was appealing to me because the shapes were pre-cut- I assumed that this would mean everything would fit together properly but I was wrong. And the directions are over-simplified and not very helpful.

Great beginner project! . We bought these for our 6 year old daughter to sew and make for her sisters for Christmas. The prepackaged projects were terrific for a beginner and she was pleased with the results. Each one is easy to make, but did require some adult instruction - that's just what we wanted. For us, it was a great mother/daughter project to create a gift from one sister to another. We keep the food in a special box and it is used for pretend play. My girls don't destroy them and are careful with the food - but it could be easily destroyed if a child were rough - for instance, some of the details are simply stickers - they adhere WELL, but could be pulled off (just like decals on a plastic toy). We were pleased for our family - it was a great beginner sewing project, the food is very cute, and it's great for pretend play, but I wouldn't "just toss the food in the toybox".

Great first experience for knitting . I bought this for my 6 year old daughter and it was a good way for her to learn how to knit. The very chunky pink yarn and the huge needles were perfectly sized for little hands. I must say that our success with this product was due in large part to the youtube video from AlexToys explaining visually how to cast on and knit. The video was excellent and my daughter knitted her scarf in no time. (I also learned how to knit from the video!) Her friends are now interested in making the same scarf. If you have a son who doesn't like the bright pink color, you can always buy any super bulky yarn and very large needles and then just watch the video.

kit is great but product colors sent not as advertised by amazon . kit was advertised as multi color yarn( blues, reds, yellows etc) . I ordered it for my 6 year old son. the kit came with pink yarn. I was not happy about this, as he wants to learn to knit and I know he would prefer a mulit color hat and scarf vs. a hot pink one.

Beginner's knitting kit . We found a Youtube video explaining how to knit from Alex company. It was helpful --but also found other online videos to help too.

Great Pencils - but How to Sharpen? . These pencils are sturdy and easy for my kids to hold. Our set didn't include a vinyl case - but more importantly - how do you sharpen them? They are triangular and don't fit into our sharpener.

Melissa & Doug Jumbo Triangular Colored Pencils (Set of 24) Reviews
Wonderful size beautiful colors my favorite jumbo colored pencils . We have six children, and colored pencils are our preferred coloring tool. They are less easily damaged by chewing than markers or crayons, and you can't color on yourself like with markers. Also the colors are more sophisticated. So, we have tried quite a few jumbo colored pencils for our preschoolers and toddlers. This set by Melissa & Doug is easily my favorite, and here's why:

* Triangular shape. The corners are nicely rounded so it's comfortable to grip. But, the triangular shape makes for easier gripping and keeps the pencils from rolling away.

* Long length. Many jumbo colored pencils are shorter than standard colored pencils; these are not, which means more use.

* Many vibrant colors. Gorgeous, vivid colors are better than some we've tried, and I've never seen jumbo colored pencils in a set bigger than 8 or 12.

The only thing I would change is that these pencils do not have the color names written on them. That would be helpful sometimes in distinguishing between similarly colored pencils. There are two brown ones that have an almost identical exterior, and it would be easy to pick the wrong one when trying to match previous drawing. However, these pencils are still good enough to warrant a 5-star rating, and I recommend them to any parent of preschoolers or toddlers.

another great Melissa and Doug product - no vinyl case as stated . After loving Melissa and Doug crayons I thought I would give these a try for my almost three year old daughters. These pencils are great. They are thick, durable, brightly colored, and easy for little hands to grip and hold correctly. Definately worth the money. However, if you are expecting a clear vinyl case as the description states, I did not receive one. My pencils came in a an ordinary cardboard box with no case. This is not a problem for me and I honestly forgot that it stated that until I came back to write my review. But, I wanted to let you know in case it is a deciding factor for you.

Melissa and Doug's Jumbo colored pencils . These pencils are wonderful. The colors are bright, the triangular shape is easy to hold, and they are very sturdy. Just right for my grandson's 3 year old hands and for my arthritic ones. Excellent quality as always from Melissa and Doug. I've never been disapointed with any of the many products I've purchased made by them.

First Review Ever . I'm writing this review, first one ever, to say WTH... no sharpener... so within 5 minutes of her flattening out the pink one... this set became unusable to us...as she could just start coloring and then never be able to finish whatever she was working due to the lack of a sharpener. I love most Melissa and Doug products but this is a huge FAIL. In searching online for the only available German Kum Special Diameter sharpener for triangular pencils, which I'm gonna have to order, I see that most other triangular color pencil sellers include the sharpener...go for them in spite of your love for Melissa and Doug and buy their other products but not these pencils. Fun and Great Help in Holding Pencils Correctly . If the question is whether the 4 year old was thrilled...well, she oohed about getting all the pretty pencils but it wasn't her favorite Christmas present. From her mother's and my perspective, it was a GREAT gift! Having 24 colors is outstanding; the pencils being triangular will help her learn how to hold pencils properly. They'll be used and they'll be helping her and she'll have fun. That makes them perfect in my book!

Best colored pencils you can buy! . My 2 year old loves to color and we already have the Melissa & Doug jumbo crayons. THESE ARE AWESOME! They sharpen well with a jumbo size pencil sharpener and the tips rarely break. The shape is perfect for not rolling away. LOVE, LOVE LOVE!!!

Great inexpensive easy to grip colored pencils . My almost 3 year old loves these pencils, as does my 9 year old daughter. They are easy to grip and the colors are vibrant. Definitely worth the money.

Love this toy . I have purchased 4 of these Fashion Angel Sketch Books and all are excellent. I've gotten them for my 10 year old granddaughter who really enjoys them. All you have to do is tear out the stencil sheet as you would tear out a page in a spiral notebook and your're good to start using it. I've done a few sketches myself and it's quite enjoyable. My granddaughter likes sketching the different designs and making her own special touches. It already comes with ample paper and all you need are some colored pencils or markers which almost everyone already has. All of these are a great price and so easy to use. It's self contained so you can pick it up and take it anywhere you want. No big clean up! If you get one, you'll probably end up getting more, like me.

My daughter... . loves every single one of these Fashion Angel Design Sketch books. The one thing I don't like are the stencils. They are floppy, hard to trace and they get all stuck together.
Then they have to be untangle. I suggest they have a storage place or your kid will be spending a long time getting them back into
the book where they were to begin with. I suppose they could take one at a time out, but that would be
rather tedious.I added 3 stars to the educational line because it does allow her to explore her creative side. But this might not seem education to some parents if there children just enjoy it because its alot of fun. My daughter aspires to be some designer of sorts.She designs rooms, outfits, makeup, accessories.. etc. ( in the other books )

entertaining . I bought this for my 9 year old daughter. She already had the fashion model version and loved that (it was a favorite with her friends too!), so I knew she would love this as well. It's not her favorite (I think the rock band is her favorite) but she enjoys it and will usually allow her brother (age 7) and sister (age 5) to assist her in her planning. Great (cheap!) purchase!

Great toy for your little designer . I bought this for my niece for Christmas. She opened many gifts from the family on Christmas day. I was so happy to see her sitting on the couch, working on designs after the unwrapping of gifts. She loved it and didn't set it down after she opened it. The pages came out a little easier than I would have wished, because she lost a page when walking around. I was glad I found it before she went home. That is the only reason I didn't give a perfect rating.

Cute idea for creative play . Bought this as a gift. I thought it was really cute and creative. The little girl I bought it for seemed to really like it as well.

play doh fishy fun! . My daughter is 4 and loves play doh. She loves playing with this toy the stage lights up and there are step by step directions that show her how to make fish, starfish, and an octopus it even comes with tools to help create the shapes. The only thing I didn't like was that it didn't come with play doh containers so we just put the play doh in ziploc bags and made sure all the air was out. So far the play doh is still very soft.

cast an animal kits . the animals once casted & painted are more for flat display the stand-up display & play. Mom did the casting part for 5 & 8 year olds then they painted. Horse legs seem to be thiner then rest of horse so when taken out of mold will probably break off. Still a great idea & kids will enjoy.
