therapistmom . I initially bought this as a toy for work. Playdough is a great fine motor activity and can be used in a variety of ways during therapy sessions for kids of all ages. Of course, it found it's way into my 2 year olds hands and she loves it! Rolling out the dough and pressing out shapes..she could do this for hours. The plunger is a little difficult to use for little hands, and it may cause frustration if there is not and adult there to help. The little scissors are also a big hit and a great way to teach scissor skills. The bucket also keeps everything together. And if the playdough only gets put in the bucket and not their little containers..it still stays fresh.

Hours of fun . I'm the grandmother, who loves to play with the kids. I bought this for my 3 year old grandson several years ago. Now his 3 year old sister is still playing and enjoying all the accessory pieces. I also purchased a small playdoh table. It's always in the "playroom" in the basement. Playdoh is a great way for kids to express themselves and use their immagination.

great all in one storage for play doh . we got this when my son was 2. Not sure what else I can say about play doh - it's fun and colorful and really holds my son's attention. He loves to squish it and cut it and roll it into little balls and will play with it for hours if I let him.

What I like so much about this particular set is that everything stores so nicely in the bucket. The bucket cover has a nice "tuperware-like" seal which my son can't open by himself (which I like because I don't really want him taking this out without me). There are all kinds of cookie cutters in all different shapes and all of this, plus several tubs of play doh pack away nicely when you're done.

I would recommend play-doh as a great toy for toddler aged kids on up, and would recommend this set especially because it cleans up/stores away so well.

Daughter is in Love! . This was right up my 7 yo's alley. Beads, jewelery and gobs of color. We have mando "tune-out" days and the kids have to find something creative and this is her go-to every time. How they cram that much in for the price they do is beyond me (well, I know)... Regardless a fabulous kit for girls of all ages. We have since ordered some similar sets by the same maker and have been pleased as well. She is the hit of the 2nd grade making cool beaded necklaces, hair bows and bracelets for all her friends.

Items looks different than what is pictured . The photo of this item has 18 slots of beads, but the actual product only has 12 slots of beads (including 1 that is just filled with a a warning about choking hazards, not beads). Therefore there are not as many varieties of beads. There are no purple beads, blue round beads, gray beads and the product is probably missing more. I would have thought I received the wrong item except for the product name is the same on the package. Boo.

Clean fun for kids . This has got to be one of the best child's sculpting clay-like substances available. Our 8-year old played with this stuff at his art camp last summer and it was an instant success. Throughout the week, it was his absolutely most favorite thing to work with. We got him this bucket so that he could keep working with this at home and his creativity really showed through -- not only with the four basic colors but mixing them to make all the colors of the rainbow. He has now now worked through 3-4 buckets of this and his projects are consistently getting better, more interesting, and more complex as he learns to think ahead through the sculpting process.The stuff is clean, does not smell, cleans up easily, and works well with fingers and tools. It will retain its pliancy for a long time in the bucket --- which means that it does take a while to lose its softness and stiffen up into a final product. On the whole, we highly, highly recommend this.

Great stuff! No messes! . We were introduced to this clay at a craft workshop at Michael's Craft store. My daughter (3 1/2) loves crafting, but rarely sticks with one activity for long. But after an hour of crafting, she didn't want to leave. The clay is nice and soft, smooth, and light, and much easier to work with than Play Doh (but of course, more expensive). I enjoyed playing with it, too.

The instructor suggested working on wax paper to make sure it doesn't stain a table. I didn't notice any staining except when my daughter wet the clay the next day because I told her that something had hardened and she thought she could soften it up again by adding water (oops). Then it stained her hands and the paper she was working on. But under normal conditions, so far so good.

It's not the kind of project that you can start and then walk away from and expect to come back to it and keep molding the clay hours later... it does stiffen up to the point of not being very pliable within a couple of hours, and it's dry in about 24 hours. It remains a little soft even after it dries, though... like, if you stuck your fingernail into it, it would leave an indent.

Once you stick two colored pieces together, you can't separate them neatly (unless they were both already stiffened), so it's a little difficult to correct mistakes.

Highly recommended for kids 3 and up.

Kids love it! . We love the Crayola Model Magic. It seems a bit expensive, but the kids spend hours molding different scenes and animals. The variety of colors is fantastic, and when it dries, it doesn't crack or crumble like Play-Doh. It maintains its soft appearance and dries like hard foam. If you don't let it dry out, you can re-use it over and over! Although, I now have little model magic creatures all around my house so it's about time to order more. But I love it! I would recommend it to any parent whose kids love to sculpt and mold with clay.

Great Value! . Crayola's model magic products are great for groups of kids. It's great quality molding clay, when the kids are done playing just put it back in the container for later. Great for classrooms or day cares. I prefer this to playdough as it tends to stay together better and create less of a mess.

Daughter Loves It . This is my second time purchasing this product for my daughter. We made all kinds of animal shapes that my daughter found in a magazine. It is easy to use and holds well when it air drys only. I bought a second batch to see what her creativity will make next.

For kid's school thing... . Wow this product is so hard to find. On the school list this was one of the items and thank the heavens this came really fast and packaging was perfect. Haven't tried it out by the kids said it was a lot of fun

Love this soo much! . My daughter loves to craft.She thought model magic was awesome.She made me buy three or four buckets of it!My Daughter left this craft for dinner , and when she comes back it is softer than she expexted it.I highly reccomend this to anybody.Model magic is a top clay product.

Best for older kids . I bought this for my 7 year old because he said he had modeling clay at school and wanted to use it over the summer at our house. So I bought it thinking it would be just like Playdoh, only it dries out better. Wrong. This variety pack has 10 packs inside, all pretty small in my estimation (less than 1/2 of what a standard playdoh container holds) and does not come in reusable bags. So once they are open, that's it - use it or it dries out. Now I did try to keep them in a reusable plastic container, but if they touch each other the colors mix together, they do not come apart easily at all. But the biggest issue is it's not really that much fun for him, and he's a pretty creative kid so I'm not sure what is missing. So overall, I think this is great for kids older than 8 who probably can navigate all the issues of clay better than younger kids.

These stamps looked great on the website, unfortunately when my first graders put any type of force on the stamps when pushing into the stamp pad, the red stamp holders are hollow and they crack. My students have used them for 3 weeks, 4 to 6 letters of each set is cracked. Home use is probably ok, but not for classroom use.

best pencil . These pencils are worth the money. I use them for everyday use. The lead is a perfect darkness. The grip makes it possible to write longer without hand fatigue. Imagination comes alive... . I'd like to first comment on the price of this. I got it last year and got this so cheap I thought there had to be some problem with it. Well, it works as advertised and was fin while it lasted.

4 and 6 Year Olds Loved It. . I bought two of these, one for my daughter and one for my granddaughter. We ended up with pixos all over the kitchen floor and all over the table, but they enjoyed making the designs, and they've held together well. . The main problem we had with the pen was that it jams up frequently, but with a few little shakes, it usually works again. We found the sticky dot on the other end of the pen extremely useful for picking up stray dots. After we made the design, we sprayed them well (but not soaked) and then let them dry for a full day before taking the design off the tray. We attached magnets to the back and use them on the fridge.

another happy 8 yr old girl playing with her pixos . bought this for my daughter for christmas. she has experienced pixos prior to this, as well as chixos. she has been playing with them consistently since she opened the gift. and enjoying it by the way... i actually bought 2 of these for her for two reasons.
1. because amazon had SUCH a low price, I got two for what target asked for a single one.
2. so when she has a friend over, they're able to partake in the fun simultaneously ....
overall, i was very pleased with all aspects. amazon makes shopping VERY easy. the shipping was super speedy. everything i ordered was safe and intact. happy customer- again!

Weird toy . My niece asked for this for Christmads and the Amazon price was great so she got this and the Pixo Studio. She started playing with it that evening and it seemed odd to use. You can only put one color dot in the pen at a time and you pretty much have to put them in one dot at a time, so it's kind of useless as you could just pick the dot up and set it on the tray. It made a cute artsy thing, but is overall pretty useless. The dots also seem to take a long time to dry. Kind of annoying, but she had fun.

good beginner pencils but could use more primary colors . Got these pencils for my 16-month-old because she was interested in scribbling. They're a good size for her to hold easily, and they don't mark on carpets, clothes, and other nearby surfaces. My only complaints would be that the leads could be a little softer, so that it was easier to make a satisfyingly dark line, and that there could be some recognizable colors in addition to the strange array of off-pinks and off-blues that seem to have been selected here. Kids this young are still learning colors, right? Could I get a few base colors in the mix? But overall, a good first set of scribbling pencils.

Son liked them . My son used these all the time after he got them for christmas. He has managed to loose most of them by now tho. They are small and easy to misplace to spite having a place for them to go at the end of the day. He never had an issue with gripping them or drawing with them. They have a wonderful selection of colors for the price and are a wonderful way to get kids on their way to creative genius ( well someday anyway!)

Break easily . I always thought Crayola was a brand I could rely on (as opposed to Rose Art). However the Pip Squeaks colored pencils are disappointing. The lead breaks easily, and the sharpener that comes has trouble sharpening the pencils. I like the idea of small, fat colored pencils, but the product is not durable.

Great Pencils - but How to Sharpen? . These pencils are sturdy and easy for my kids to hold. Our set didn't include a vinyl case - but more importantly - how do you sharpen them? They are triangular and don't fit into our sharpener.

Wonderful size beautiful colors my favorite jumbo colored pencils . We have six children, and colored pencils are our preferred coloring tool. They are less easily damaged by chewing than markers or crayons, and you can't color on yourself like with markers. Also the colors are more sophisticated. So, we have tried quite a few jumbo colored pencils for our preschoolers and toddlers. This set by Melissa & Doug is easily my favorite, and here's why:

* Triangular shape. The corners are nicely rounded so it's comfortable to grip. But, the triangular shape makes for easier gripping and keeps the pencils from rolling away.

* Long length. Many jumbo colored pencils are shorter than standard colored pencils; these are not, which means more use.

* Many vibrant colors. Gorgeous, vivid colors are better than some we've tried, and I've never seen jumbo colored pencils in a set bigger than 8 or 12.

The only thing I would change is that these pencils do not have the color names written on them. That would be helpful sometimes in distinguishing between similarly colored pencils. There are two brown ones that have an almost identical exterior, and it would be easy to pick the wrong one when trying to match previous drawing. However, these pencils are still good enough to warrant a 5-star rating, and I recommend them to any parent of preschoolers or toddlers.

another great Melissa and Doug product - no vinyl case as stated . After loving Melissa and Doug crayons I thought I would give these a try for my almost three year old daughters. These pencils are great. They are thick, durable, brightly colored, and easy for little hands to grip and hold correctly. Definately worth the money. However, if you are expecting a clear vinyl case as the description states, I did not receive one. My pencils came in a an ordinary cardboard box with no case. This is not a problem for me and I honestly forgot that it stated that until I came back to write my review. But, I wanted to let you know in case it is a deciding factor for you.

Melissa and Doug's Jumbo colored pencils . These pencils are wonderful. The colors are bright, the triangular shape is easy to hold, and they are very sturdy. Just right for my grandson's 3 year old hands and for my arthritic ones. Excellent quality as always from Melissa and Doug. I've never been disapointed with any of the many products I've purchased made by them.

First Review Ever . I'm writing this review, first one ever, to say WTH... no sharpener... so within 5 minutes of her flattening out the pink one... this set became unusable to us...as she could just start coloring and then never be able to finish whatever she was working due to the lack of a sharpener. I love most Melissa and Doug products but this is a huge FAIL. In searching online for the only available German Kum Special Diameter sharpener for triangular pencils, which I'm gonna have to order, I see that most other triangular color pencil sellers include the sharpener...go for them in spite of your love for Melissa and Doug and buy their other products but not these pencils. Fun and Great Help in Holding Pencils Correctly . If the question is whether the 4 year old was thrilled...well, she oohed about getting all the pretty pencils but it wasn't her favorite Christmas present. From her mother's and my perspective, it was a GREAT gift! Having 24 colors is outstanding; the pencils being triangular will help her learn how to hold pencils properly. They'll be used and they'll be helping her and she'll have fun. That makes them perfect in my book!

Best colored pencils you can buy! . My 2 year old loves to color and we already have the Melissa & Doug jumbo crayons. THESE ARE AWESOME! They sharpen well with a jumbo size pencil sharpener and the tips rarely break. The shape is perfect for not rolling away. LOVE, LOVE LOVE!!!

Great inexpensive easy to grip colored pencils . My almost 3 year old loves these pencils, as does my 9 year old daughter. They are easy to grip and the colors are vibrant. Definitely worth the money.

Awesome toy!! . I have 3 young boys (ages 2,5 and 7). They all LOVE this toy (we have the full size set). We've had it for about 6-9 months and we still have gel left and none of it's ever dried out (like another person had posted). Maybe they didn't put the lids on tight or they had defective bottles. When we got this gift I actually thought it looked dumb and assumed it would be played with once and then tossed... but to my surprise the kids STILL love this after all this time! We play with it every few weeks and there is just something about it that they just fell in love with. We know at least 5 other young boys who have this and their moms say that they love it too. I highly recommend it. The reason I'm on here today is because I'm buying one as a gift for my nephew.

No problems with ours. My boys ages 5 & 9 like it a lot! . We have a larger set of this same stuff. My kids love it. We have had it for an entire year and have used it many times. Our bottles never have had any trouble with drying out. We are still using the original ones we got with our set and have made many aliens over 12 months. The kids will forget about the toy for a few weeks then they get it out and the martian mania starts all over again. No problems with ours.

Note that the aliens themselves do dry up if you don't keep them stored airtight. Our aliens don't ever last long because the boys like to leave them out and play with them. They shrivel up and go into the trash after a few days.

My Boys Love It! . My 5 year old received this for his birthday last year and it was a big hit. The boys have made "lucky fishing lures" for their dad and uncle to take on their fishing trips. It is one of those toys that is played with for a couple of hours one day and then put in the closet and pulled out again in a few weeks and the fun starts all over again. We did not have any problems with the mud or gel except that they have used it so often that we have to order more! A great toy!

So-So . This toy was messy and boring and I was happy to get rid of it when we ran out of the blue and yellow goo. The only reason I gave it some stars is because my 4 year old loved watching me play with it---that's right, he didn't actually want to get his hands dirty, but he loved watching others do it. The tweezers are horrible and the cover of the box looks way more exciting than it actually it. I'm glad I only spent $5 on this product when it was on sale!

One cool creative toy! . My kids had the spaceship version a year ago. On my son's 6th birthday, he remembered playing this toy and this toy is what he wanted the most. This is the third set we bought. His 4-yr-old sister also love playing with him with this toy. Out of all the Alien Makers' kit, this is the most inexpensive that is a complete kit and not a refill.

This is one fun cool CREATIVE toy. This toy is not cheaply made but made of sturdy thick plastic. It has a plastic knife for dissecting and a plastic tweezer. In the middle is a small light table where you can place the aliens for examination; which explains why you need a battery. (You don't need the batteries to create the aliens, just strictly for lights and effects!)

You create the molds by pressing the aliens into the Meteor Mud (seems like a regular play-doh). Then you pour the Lunar lava into the mold. They love to combine colors to create colorful aliens. It will take around 5 minutes for the lunar lava to solidify into a gel. Make sure to cover the mold with a flat Meteor Mud or it will not set properly. No heat needed to set. Since the mold is made up of play-doh like material, it is very easy to remove the aliens. The stuff are non-toxic. Each bottle of lunar lava is 2 oz. There are 2 bottles included and you can makes a lot of aliens with them. This is a pretty nice gift for kids 5 years and above.

Minor Cons:

- Non toxic, but if you have allergy from wheat, this product contains wheat.

FUN - my son hasn't stopped playing with it . Fun and economical. My son has played with this product every day since receiving it.

lab playset . If your kids like play-doh, they'll like this playset. The biggest drawback is having to reorder the play-doh whenever they run out. It would help with eye - hand co-ordination and muscle development

Once gel is opened it dries in 24 hours . My son got this for his birthday party Friday night. He made one alien and another on Saturday morning. It is now Sunday morning and both alien gels have turned solid in their containers...even with the top on. This toy was a lot of fun and now I have a 7 year old in tears. Of course I can purchase replacement gel for more $ to have the toy last as expected. Gotcha! I checked the packaging and there is no warning that the gel will harden once opened. We followed the directions. The caps were on tight and the unused gel solidified right in the bottle. This toy is pretty much a one shot deal. Save your money.

cute but crayon idea is not good The little green creature is super cute and my daughter (18 mths) loves its music. I thought it would be an attractive way to introduce coloring to her as the belly lights up to get her attention. Unfortunately she also loves to eat the crayons as well. I got the whole thing set up and we sat down with it, I picked up one crayon to show her what to do and she picked hers up and bit off the top! I will put it away and pull it out when she's a bit older to see if there are better results. I know that the package says for 18 months but I think that unless you child doesn't put everything in its mouth you should wait until your child is older.
