Great Pencils - but How to Sharpen? . These pencils are sturdy and easy for my kids to hold. Our set didn't include a vinyl case - but more importantly - how do you sharpen them? They are triangular and don't fit into our sharpener.

Wonderful size beautiful colors my favorite jumbo colored pencils . We have six children, and colored pencils are our preferred coloring tool. They are less easily damaged by chewing than markers or crayons, and you can't color on yourself like with markers. Also the colors are more sophisticated. So, we have tried quite a few jumbo colored pencils for our preschoolers and toddlers. This set by Melissa & Doug is easily my favorite, and here's why:

* Triangular shape. The corners are nicely rounded so it's comfortable to grip. But, the triangular shape makes for easier gripping and keeps the pencils from rolling away.

* Long length. Many jumbo colored pencils are shorter than standard colored pencils; these are not, which means more use.

* Many vibrant colors. Gorgeous, vivid colors are better than some we've tried, and I've never seen jumbo colored pencils in a set bigger than 8 or 12.

The only thing I would change is that these pencils do not have the color names written on them. That would be helpful sometimes in distinguishing between similarly colored pencils. There are two brown ones that have an almost identical exterior, and it would be easy to pick the wrong one when trying to match previous drawing. However, these pencils are still good enough to warrant a 5-star rating, and I recommend them to any parent of preschoolers or toddlers.

another great Melissa and Doug product - no vinyl case as stated . After loving Melissa and Doug crayons I thought I would give these a try for my almost three year old daughters. These pencils are great. They are thick, durable, brightly colored, and easy for little hands to grip and hold correctly. Definately worth the money. However, if you are expecting a clear vinyl case as the description states, I did not receive one. My pencils came in a an ordinary cardboard box with no case. This is not a problem for me and I honestly forgot that it stated that until I came back to write my review. But, I wanted to let you know in case it is a deciding factor for you.

Melissa and Doug's Jumbo colored pencils . These pencils are wonderful. The colors are bright, the triangular shape is easy to hold, and they are very sturdy. Just right for my grandson's 3 year old hands and for my arthritic ones. Excellent quality as always from Melissa and Doug. I've never been disapointed with any of the many products I've purchased made by them.

First Review Ever . I'm writing this review, first one ever, to say WTH... no sharpener... so within 5 minutes of her flattening out the pink one... this set became unusable to us...as she could just start coloring and then never be able to finish whatever she was working due to the lack of a sharpener. I love most Melissa and Doug products but this is a huge FAIL. In searching online for the only available German Kum Special Diameter sharpener for triangular pencils, which I'm gonna have to order, I see that most other triangular color pencil sellers include the sharpener...go for them in spite of your love for Melissa and Doug and buy their other products but not these pencils. Fun and Great Help in Holding Pencils Correctly . If the question is whether the 4 year old was thrilled...well, she oohed about getting all the pretty pencils but it wasn't her favorite Christmas present. From her mother's and my perspective, it was a GREAT gift! Having 24 colors is outstanding; the pencils being triangular will help her learn how to hold pencils properly. They'll be used and they'll be helping her and she'll have fun. That makes them perfect in my book!

Best colored pencils you can buy! . My 2 year old loves to color and we already have the Melissa & Doug jumbo crayons. THESE ARE AWESOME! They sharpen well with a jumbo size pencil sharpener and the tips rarely break. The shape is perfect for not rolling away. LOVE, LOVE LOVE!!!

Good idea....keeps my child busy . The only problem I had this item was the instant I took it out of its plastic wrap and opened it up, the chalkboard fell out of its hinges on the top. A little bit of extra strength super glue fixed it and am hoping the dry erase side doesn't fall out later. Otherwise my 2.5yr old loves writing with the chalk and putting magnetic letters on the other side. Great investment - even if I have chalk dust all over my floor.

Melissa and Doug magnetic dry erase easel . I like this little easel very much. I teach literacy and I needed something I could put on top of a table. It allows the kids to have a close view of the letters and words. Since painting is not part of my program, I use the holders for my pencils and markers...Perfect! I have to transport it back and forth several times from my literacy program site to my car, so I do wish that it folded without my having to unscrew the wooded pegs each time. However, if you have a permanent spot for this little easel, you will just love it!

Table top easel . The "dry erase" board is only a white plastic board with plastic over the top; therefore, it is next to impossible to clean. I was very disappointed and would not recommend this to anyone

My daughter loves this toy! . My 8 year old daughter got this for Christmas last year and she loves it. She keeps it on her short dresser which is nice because it doesn't take up floor space. She plays with it all the time. She loves to play school with her little sister and friends. It has been durable, the only issue I had was my daughter wiped the chalkboard side with a wet paper towel a few times and it started to warp the board a little. You can't tell unless you push hard on it in a certain spot. This is definitely one toy we have gotten our moneys worth out of.

Great Idea--Poor Execution . This table-top easel would be a great and useful "toy" if it were made well. We homeschool and have had this easel for a couple of years. It almost immediately fell apart. We have re-glued and re-stapled it several times. All Melissa and Doug painted-wood items we have purchased have not held together. This is because all the individual parts are painted before gluing, and the joints don't hold. As I stare at the pieces of this easel, which has fallen apart YET AGAIN, I would suggest that you search for a better table-top easel.

both received broken...poor product . both were received broken. Glue didn't hold produc together. it fell apart when it was opened. the would was so fragle it cracked in my hand...very disapointed.

Just what I was looking for. . This easle is the perfect size, not to big not to small. Great on top of my daughters little table and chairs. Her brother can use one side and she can use the other at the same time.

Very durable. They dropped it on the floor the other day and I found them riding it like a horse but it was no trouble at all.

The only problem that we are having is that the boards on each side are starting to come loose. I think I'm going to wait until they peel off a little more and then glue them back on. Right now it's not affecting it's use.

easel hunter . My 3year old son loves this easel. I like it because it sits on the table instead of most of them that take up a lot of room on the floor. We have had this easel for a year now and it has been pretty durable, one of the wooden screws will not stay screwed in anymore but it isn't an issue.

Cons Review

Easel(y) a Great Purchase . This is a great easel. The two sides provide a choice between chalk (which is what we're using most with my two year old) or dry erase marker. One of the best features is the magnetic surfaces on BOTH chalkboard and dry erase surfaces. You can play with this easel either on a table top or just on the floor. Educationally, the sky is the limit.

I highly recommend this easel. It' great fun. Easel(y), one of the best purchases we've made for our child.

I have had the same problems with this as others . As soon as I took it out of the plastic and picked it up, the easel fell apart. I was so upset because I was looking forward to opening this item and immediately surprising my child with some quality time and activity.

This is poorly put together, but once you use some glue and let it sit for while to dry it should be fine. My child absolutely loves the easel. Learning ABC's and numbers(education), drawing pictures(creativity), and playing connect the dots with straight lines(dexterity) all keep a child occupied, happy and more importantly interested.

Great idea. Poorly built product that can be fixed with some epoxy. I would have given 5 stars if it didn't immediately fall apart right out of the original packaging.

Awesome - as cool as it looks . This is awesome. It really works. My son can lay in his bed and draw on the wall from accross the room. And he loved to make a "mural" with the little stencil pads that came with it. We hung one pad at the head of his bed, and one accross the room so he could draw from a distance. I was pleasently surprised at how well this worked.

Fun toy but sticky wall does not stick that well . Oh my son loved this toy. It workes great. He loved it so much he fell asleep with the pen in hand! I hung one wall on the ceiling and one on the other side wall to play. The dissapointing part was when the morning came both walls fell down. Its fun just not mind-blowing . I have a 9 year old son who wanted this for Christmas. He talked about it all summer like it was the next best thing. So he received it for Christmas. He was very excited. When it came out of the box, the thick rubber-like papers were stuffed in there very tightly. The ends were curled in order to fit in the box and...to this day they are still curled. I imagine people are having issues with the self-stick because the paper is coiled in such a way that the pressure from mounting it to the wall is too much and it comes off. I'll just get to it:PRO'SWhen used in the dark, it is fun to come up with games like tic-tac-toe or drawing. You can even put multiple papers together to make a big canvas. Pen is decent and good quality. I like that it has two light features (wide and pinpoint). It is ergonomically nice and when the child holds it, it appears comfortable. CON'sThe fun lasts about as long as the light stays on the paper. For us, it's about 10 - 15 seconds. So tell me this: Look at the package in the picture. See how that kid has drawn intricate objects on the paper? THAT IS A LIE. There is no way the paper can hold the energy from the light long enough to finish a tic-tac-toe game, let alone drawing a Moon, Stars, UFO, Fence, Cow, Cowboy, Horse, 'With Light' and a shaded hand. NO WAY! I can't stand it when product makers do this. It's shady (pun intended) and it really irritates me when I see what it is supposed to look like only to have reality hit me. It reminds me of those fast food commercials where you see the juicy burger and thick tomato and special sauce only to receive a limp half-baked version of what it is supposed to be. This toy is just like that. They mis-represent the toy many times over. Reality is the light hits the paper and fades in about 5-10 seconds. The reason it gets 3 stars instead of 2 is that it is reusable and the kids do get SOME fun out of it. It's not quite a full-fail product and it will last many years. So perhaps if you purchase it for an older child and intend to hand it down, it is good for that. The paper is rubber like so I'm not sure how it "broke" for the other reviewers here. I think they got a dry version of it? Who knows. Overall...I say "meh" and move along...There are way better toys. Get a light bright or view master projector. Those are more fun.

Not wall friendly . I got this for my daughter to hang up in her room. We just have normal apartment walls. We hung the two adhesive papers on the wall for her to do the art on, but they will not stay up on the wall. The wall is clean, but they won't stick. We haven't found a wall yet that it will adhere to and stay. I'm very disappointed in this product.

Good night with a glow . It's easier to turn off the lights at night with this. At bed time my son and I write messages to each other, and even make his glow in the dark stars on the wall glow brighter.

of course its not like it looks on tv...... . my five year old was convinced that this would work like on tv. It doesnt. Its not easy to "draw" on the special paper that you have to use, it fades quickly and is rather small considering. The light is faint on the paper and you have to be virtually in a pitch black room to see what you are writing so that it looks like it does on tv. It was a christmas gift, so we are stuck with it, but my son was disappointed.

Overpriced . For a couple of pieces of paper and a glow pen this thing is seriously overpriced. My daughter played with it for maybe 5 minutes not very fun. PERFECT for travel . This kept my 34 month old daughter occupied during a recent long plane trip. I was able to pull out the Wikki Stix again and again when she got bored or restless. It's nice and compact, not messy, and quiet. These will be a go to toy for us again. I highly recommend it.

Fun for my 5yo and 2yo . My son has been asking me for bendaroos for the longest time so i got him these since they are pretty much the same thing. i believe the only difference is that the wikkistix have an adhensive quality that lets them stick to glossy books or other shiney surfaces. the book included is very amusing and give kids creative ways to use the wikkistix. for example there is a page with under water scenery with seaweed and such and you use the wikkistix as if they are seaweed and create other under water critters or scenery. my son wraps them around his pencils, toys, and uses them in other books. overall he has a lot of fun with them and it allows him to express some creativity. the other day he made me "heart balloons" with them. my 2yo mimics what he does and they can play together easily without fighting over them since there are many.

Wikki Stix . I got this for my best friends little girl when she turned 4 years old in February. She absolutely loves these Wikki Stixs and spends hours creating interesting things with them.

Made in the USA! . Wikki stix are an excellent, quiet time activity that is highly entertaining. The books are sturdy and well constructed. No need to worry about toxicity from Chinese manufacturing with this. Nice job!

Wikki Stix . This came in so handy on my recent flight. Entertained my 2 year old for a good 1/2 hour.

Great fun for a vacation and plane ride . This is not a long-term toy that your toddler is going to want to keep going back to play with (at least it wasn't for mine). It kept her busy on an international plane ride and a 2 week vacation --- along with other toys of course. She was only 2.5 at the time and really couldn't use the wikki stix like the book's pictures, but she still had fun sticking them in different positions throughout the book. If your child is older, they might appreciate the book more. Otherwise, for toddlers, you can get the wiki stix at dollar stores for cheaper and just use any old hard page book (so no page ripping) --- it could be just as fun. I liked this purchase because the price was reasonable and it is a really cute hard page book that came with colored wikki stix.

Wonderful WIkkis - A great quite toy . My 3 yr old twins love Wikki sticks. I usually break them out when we are restaurants, or any place we need a quite contained toy. They are great for airplanes to - they even stick on the windows and they don't leave any residue behind. They easily entertain my kids for at least a half an hour.

Quickly Used Up . The description gives the impression that the wikki stix can be used over and over again. We probably played with them twice before the were over. The problem is that they stick to other things, not leaving a residue but picking up fine hairs and fibers that eventually they no longer stick the pages. And when you do remove them from the original packaging it is a pain to put them back.

Many reasons to love this . First, Amazon really rose to the occasion when this gift was somehow lost in the mail. Without having to blame the USPS (whose fault we all suspected it was), they just said..."we'll ship another". And, my niece got it before Xmas! Cheers to you Amazon for excellent client service, I will definately remember that next time I need to shop online. Moreover...apparently the toy is really cool and my niece loves to play with it (she's 5). Good experience all around. Cheers!

Better idea than toy . We bought this for our two year son who loves animals and going to the zoo. He is not allowed to play with this without one of us as the animals are small. As the description states, only two animals come with the set. For a two year-old, the animals have very little connection to the mat. The bin really is just a glorified carrying case and that's how we use it, adding other animal toys and bath squirters to round out the toy selection. Great for travel, restaurants, parks, etc. I went in with my eyes open so kind of got what I thought, just was hoping for a bit more. Obviously can't beat the price.

Cute toy . THis box is a cute concept: it opens flat so the child can play on it. The pictures are really cute and the surface is wipe-able. It has to be able to open up to flatten out so the sides are more flimsy than I expected, but it still works. I guess I expected it to be like a shoe box with handles, but it is more like a purse. I will say, my son loves it (he is 3) and carries all his animals in it, so in that respect it is a huge success. The top doesn't go on too well because the sides are softer and it can spill easily if it is thrown around (with a 3 year old boy, that happens). It's more like a purse than a box.

Wonderful creative toy . I was not expecting much when I ordered this toy bin/play mat.It is sturdier than I had anticipated and the graphics are eye catching. Both the bin and the top are play areas. The zippered corners are easy to zip and unzip. I thought "mini" meant tiny but it didn't. It is the perfect size for a small child to play with, carry around, and store away. The fact that the toys can be easily thrown into the bin for storage is a wonderful feature. Teaches a child to pick up their toys. It also folds down into a 1" compact form if you want to do that. I am thrilled with my purchase and hope to buy different sizes and themes as my grandchildren grow.

Great rainy day fun . I am a HUGE Melissa and Doug fan. They manufacture solid toys even the casings are made from wood, we save the wooden trays for our 5 year olds whatnots. My five year old granddaughter loves decorating these type of projects. Whenever she sees a new one, she is super excited. I enjoy this because she is able to utilize her creativity and get out from in front of the TV. In fact she prefers working on these to TV. I will keep purchasing Melissa and Doug as I have yet to have to throw away items because of broken parts after being played with.

Wikki Stix are great but this package is only a pretty good value. . My wife heard a recommendation for Wikki Stix, and this seemed like a pretty good package to start out with. There were about twelve colors total - ten different colors in the main set of 72, and some of the favor bags included other colors that were not in the main set. The included games were pretty nice, but not really necessary. You get a spinner that has several categories, like "types of food" or "something in a house", and the players are then supposed to make something that fits into that category. A set of white cards are included to stick the creations on. Also included is a very large picture of a clown for a "Stick the Nose on the Clown" game. The instructions suggest having each player write their name in the spot they stuck the nose, and then you are left with a picture with everyone's name on it as a keepsake. I think that's a nice idea. So overall the extra game pieces are pretty good, but it would be easy to play the same games without the same pieces.

If I was ordering again, I would probably pick a larger set like BIG COUNT BOX by Wikki Stix, which is a much better per-piece value, but I'm still happy with my purchase of the Party Kit.

Fun times two! . We are already fans of Wikki Stix in our home, so I wanted something I could include in a few activity bags our church has out to occupy small children during services. The party favor bags in this set are perfect for that. For 7.99, I got eight favor sized bags with ten stix and an activity sheet to include in the bags plus the 100 stix and large clown activity for my own children to play with. We also took these on a road trip, and they occupied the girls for a couple of hours!

Great for travel . I purchased this for a road trip and was so pleased that despite its simplicity (waxed yarn, who knew??), it kept the kids (2 and 5 at the time) entertained for a good amount of time. I wish I had purchased the kind that come in a tube because dirt and fuzz are kryptonite to wiki stix. Be sure to put the stix away in a closed container or their lifespan will be significantly diminished. One small annoyance is that wiki stix do leave a little bit of a residue on your hands after playing with them.

pricey for what you get but it is a great airplane toy . I am always on a hunt for the holy trinity of airplane toys: quiet, lightweight, keeps the kid occupied for a good long while. Wikki Stix (which are wax-covered string) are it! My preschooler enjoyed playing with them on the airplane, and when we reached our destination, her older cousins loved playing with them too. They can be re-used many times.

This set comes with a bunch of the Stix and also cardboard cards where you can practice making basic shapes and combining basic shapes. My daughter was not interested in the cards and neither were her older cousins. So next time I think I would get a big set with more Stix and no cards.

GREAT ACCESSORY OR STARTER FOR 1 CHILD . Great accessory kit... it doesn't come with a ton of wikki stix but it is fun for the kids... played for hours with it. We bought the big box set of 500 so this was a great addition. Would probably be fine for one child.

great item . bought this for my 4 year old to take on an airplane for a trip cross country - He loved it. He'd seen the bendaroos on TV, but after reading bad reviews about them, I opted for this one. He also played with it in the car the whole vacation. Really great -- and not messy!

Play-doh really is fun for all . There is nothing that will ever measure up to the amazing potential of Play-Doh, at least not for the affordable price that Play-Doh is available for. For less than $2 you can purchase four full sized pots of Play-Doh in a variety of colors; else you can spend a little more and purchase this Party Pack and get a variety of ten different colors for the equally affordable price of $2.99.

The affordability of Play-Doh is not the only plus to the famous modeling clay, I absolutely adore the clay for it's educational factors as well. Between the physical actions involved in molding Play-Doh which allows younger children to exercise small hand muscles and increase development, to the social interaction involved in Play-Doh dates and parties. There are many things that allow children to develop whilst playing with the clay.

Another plus to Play-Doh clay is the color education factor. Children can create their own colors by molding together two or even three various colors of clay and consequently learn all about color mixing and development. The unfortunate factor to this is that once the clay colors are mixed it is impossible to pull out the original colors from the clay; however, this does teach children about permanence of actions which is not always a bad thing.

In a nutshell the only drawbacks I have with Play-Doh is that it does not last when left out of the can and it is not waterproof, both of this things are simply the nature of the beast and come with the makeup of the clay itself.

Wow all the colors . My granddaughter and I play with Play-Doh almost everytime she comes to stay with me. I was away for a while and her old ones dried up so I sent for this Case of Colors. Oh my! She was so excited, there are different colors in this case, colors we've never had before. She especially loves the brown. I like the smaller size, since it's just the two of us playing. We can still make all the things we did with the larger containers, only now we have more colors to choose from.

Good fun and age appropriate . Sometimes, happily, there is much enjoyment to be found outside electronics! My 5 year old grand-daughter loves her play doh...and her 6 year old sister, her 30-somethings parents and her 50-somethings grandparents are finding much enjoyment also! (Tactile creativity? Very hard to beat that, plus all hands in the dough!).

Great Set! . Playdoh is a classic and a must have for any child. This set is fantastic for any kid who likes to create with more than one color at once. It also works wonderfully for group activities. Just pass out each playdoh container and let the kids go to town! They often end up trading bits of playdoh anyway and all have a blast! It also offers a nice variety of colors in this pack.

Cons Review

Not What I Expected . There are 2 different pictures of this product on Amazon; one is a pyramid of what appears to be large cans of Play-doh and the other is a box of 10 small colors, and the prices are $15 and 7 respectively. I ordered the pyramid, which I expected to be 10 full sized cans, and received the box of 10 2oz. cans, that are pictured and sold for $7 on Amazon. We love play-doh but were misled and ripped off here.

OK choice for party favors . Bought these as party favors for my three year old's birthday - they are a larger size can than the ones in the "party pack" . I bought two packages and there are colors I wouldn't give out to kids as party favors - white, black and brown - so now we can two cans each of those colors for our use here at home. My son isn't too picky on the colors and they get all mixed up anyway so it is not a big deal. We keep a can in our diaper bag to pull out if he gets restless when we are out to eat or whatever.

Not what I was expecting . I read the review on this product and the reviews for the same product sold in a smaller set (many more reviews and it's the same thing)and I never got the impression that this is a single use toy. I was surprised that when you wet the pieces and stick them together, you can't really use them again. When you pull the two pieces apart, they've melded together and are now sticky. I was thinking this was a use over and over toy.On a different note, the box mine came in had been opened, carelessly, was riped and taped back together. Because it had been so obviously opened, I question whether all the 1000 pieces were there. The box was far from full BUT since I wasn't the first to open it I don't know if it's like a bag of chips and only comes half full. Not the ideal situation for gift giving, which this was.

Cons Review

Hours of fun . My 8 year old daughter received this last week and we have all had so much fun creating different objects. My husband even made a dragon. Super simple, just dab the ends with a wet rag and push together. It actually sticks without a gooey mess. Great for all ages.

A great product for portable programming . I am a librarian who conducts storytimes in classrooms on a daily basis, conducting 80+ programs each month. I have been searching for a portable flannelboard to take into classrooms. It is harder to find than I thought it would be. I found this product when searching the Amazon site and ordered one to try. The size is slightly smaller than the previous board I had been using but I have been able to adapt to the size. I am pleased with the product overall and would say that it's the nicest feltboard I have used in my 30+ years in the field. Two suggestions for improvement would be to make the felt part of the board on the inside when the case if folded to protect the felt from rain, etc. and also to reinforce the seams of the product. I have had to reinforce the seam that holds the board together with black electrical tape because the one edge that isn't reinforced with fabric is starting to rip. I realize that most people won't give this product the heavy use that I do but feel that a potential buyer needs to be aware of this. After my initial purchase I ordered 3 more for the rest of my programming team. I also took the product to a meeting to share with the other librarians in my system. I have had many teachers inquire about how to purchase one as well. Previously I had used a feltboard that I had modified to fit over a chair in a classroom. This product, because it folds into a triangle shape sits directly on the chair and provides a small space for me to store my flannel pieces when I am presenting a storytime.

Flannel Board and More . I ordered these boards so my grandchildren can tell flannel board stories for FHE. The fact that they can write on one side and it's also magnetic are great bonus features. It is also very portable and stores easily.

Nice to play with could have better design . We bought this for our 3 year old. He loves drawing on it with the dry erase markers. We also play with magnetic letters on the boards as well as felt pieces on the flannel board side. It works as it is intended to. My only complaint is that to switch it to the various sides the flap that is supposed to secure the baord in place isn't very sturdy. The design could be better. Overall though, this is a fun product for kids. Great way to engage your child's imagination.

A solution . Although this is a toy, it is a great office solution. We have all wood workstations and no place for whiteboards. This is a great solution. It has its own easel and two nice sized white board surfaces. It folds away into a slim space that can be stored anywhere.
