therapistmom . I initially bought this as a toy for work. Playdough is a great fine motor activity and can be used in a variety of ways during therapy sessions for kids of all ages. Of course, it found it's way into my 2 year olds hands and she loves it! Rolling out the dough and pressing out shapes..she could do this for hours. The plunger is a little difficult to use for little hands, and it may cause frustration if there is not and adult there to help. The little scissors are also a big hit and a great way to teach scissor skills. The bucket also keeps everything together. And if the playdough only gets put in the bucket and not their little containers..it still stays fresh.

Hours of fun . I'm the grandmother, who loves to play with the kids. I bought this for my 3 year old grandson several years ago. Now his 3 year old sister is still playing and enjoying all the accessory pieces. I also purchased a small playdoh table. It's always in the "playroom" in the basement. Playdoh is a great way for kids to express themselves and use their immagination.

great all in one storage for play doh . we got this when my son was 2. Not sure what else I can say about play doh - it's fun and colorful and really holds my son's attention. He loves to squish it and cut it and roll it into little balls and will play with it for hours if I let him.

What I like so much about this particular set is that everything stores so nicely in the bucket. The bucket cover has a nice "tuperware-like" seal which my son can't open by himself (which I like because I don't really want him taking this out without me). There are all kinds of cookie cutters in all different shapes and all of this, plus several tubs of play doh pack away nicely when you're done.

I would recommend play-doh as a great toy for toddler aged kids on up, and would recommend this set especially because it cleans up/stores away so well.

A Simple Recyclable and Fun Way to be Creative! . I am so glad that I stocked up on two of these! The kit is generously stocked with a variety of play-doh colors and crafting implements, and the canister is reusable as a storage container. I love that the set provides the materials, but that children must use their own creativity to develop the activity in a fun and imaginative way. I guess that's the "retro" part of it -- so many other crafting games overly structure children's play experiences (e.g., providing a Dora the Explorer backdrop to accompany tubs of play-doh). This item allows the child to drive the learning and exploration! Sometimes, a simple, traditional toy is the most "educational" of all!

Fun in a can! . This can of Play-Doh was a great hit with my 7 year old on Christmas. He is still playing with it almost every day. Lots of dough and lots of tools to go along with it. The can is much bigger than I expected and everything fits nicely back into it when done playing.

Great Play Doh toy . This is really cute. We loved the retro canister. The set includes all the basics that your little one needs to make some awesome creations. The canister can be a bit tricky for little ones to open which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how independant you want your child to be.

The canister set makes a great gift just because the packaging is unique with that retro feel that is popular.

Play-Doh at Its Best . The children loved this canister full of tools and Play-Doh from the momement they opened it. The tools are sturdy, the play-doh was generous and the fun has ended. A constant form of entertainment for them.

Fun never stops! . Was shockingly surprised by the size of this container. Maybe I didn't pay close attention to the sizing on it when I ordered but it was huge. I can't believe I got so much stuff for such a good price. My sons eyes lite up when he saw it. He loves it.

Looks like Amazon might have this way overpriced . I just found what appears to be this same PlayDoh BBQ set at the Toys R Us website for $11.99. Since Amazon is charging $29.99, I thought the Toys R Us set must be smaller, so I headed back to their site and studied the photo carefully. They appear to be the exact same set, both weighing around 10 ounces.I've never left a review for something I haven't yet purchased, but I thought other budget-conscious shoppers would appreciate the heads up. I gave it four stars so I wouldn't significantly affect the toy's Amazon reputation for the worse. Plus, we've always been very happy with the many, many PlayDoh play sets we've bought over the past 10 years, so I figure the BBQ set will also be a fun, quality toy.Slam me if you will, but I always appreciate other reviewers steering me toward better prices when the cost difference is this considerable.BTW, I'm buying this set for my 5 year old son who loves to serve me SpongeBob crabby patties and other fast food type stuff he makes out of Legos. Fun Play-doh toy . This is a fun little bbq set. The "bbq" is actually just a picture on a piece of paper and you can imagine how long that will last if it doesn't blow away first. The set is a little difficult to figure out and is geared more toward the advanced play doh users. But there are a lot of different items you can make and play with so even if you can't make perfect hot dogs (my 3 year olds have a hard time)it is still a lot of fun.

My 2? year old son LOVES it. . He loves pretending to 'cook' & 'grill' like mommy & daddy. While this item is marked for a 3yr old & older, my son is always under foot when preparing food. Includes the necessary dough to grill up enough fake hamburgers for the whole family.This is a little more of an "advanced" Play-Doh set; have to spend time teaching about how a grill works - where to put the food, where all the "stamps" are located (to make the different food items) - especially if you rarely grill out in real life (like us).Additionally, if your kid hates meat (like ours) and you mistakenly purchased this set instead of another one (like I did), the enjoyability factor based on product description and intended use may diminish quite a bit. Still, ours found a way to conjure up other ways to use it and have fun - the roasting spit was a highlight.

Lots of fun! . Adorable Backyardigan play-doh toy! The pirate theme is absolutely adorable. The pieces are very durable - although some are smaller then I'd like! They clean up really easily! I thought play doh might get stuck in the canon (its where you push the playdoh out through it and it makes it into shapes/spaghetti-ish). But I was surprised! The cardboard backing is a bit of a pain so we don't usually attach it. Some of the pieces don't do much. The set only comes with a couple small containers of play doh so for ultimate enjoyment you'll need more playdoh! But its cute and durable...and we got it for a great price!

lots of fun . My boys love this toy, but....
The peices are easy to lose because some of them are small. Also the cardboard background went in the trash the first day. However, they do play with it all the time. I have 3 boys and they have yet to break any of their playdough toys so I'd have to say it's pretty durable!!!

Waste of money for younger children . We have two boys, one 2 1/2 and the other 3 1/2. When I saw 36 months as the lower recommended age, I figured this must be somewhat durable. We immediately had to get rid of the cardboard background because it wouldn't stay in place. Also know that the base (looks like sand) and the ship do not lock together. The ship has notches and simply sits on the pegs of the base but they are in no way secure to each other. So when they try to put the pieces back on the boat (cutting wheel, plank), the set falls apart. The little Pablo figure that comes with it has been the biggest hit of this playset. I wouldn't recommend it for younger children.

Awesome toy!! . I have 3 young boys (ages 2,5 and 7). They all LOVE this toy (we have the full size set). We've had it for about 6-9 months and we still have gel left and none of it's ever dried out (like another person had posted). Maybe they didn't put the lids on tight or they had defective bottles. When we got this gift I actually thought it looked dumb and assumed it would be played with once and then tossed... but to my surprise the kids STILL love this after all this time! We play with it every few weeks and there is just something about it that they just fell in love with. We know at least 5 other young boys who have this and their moms say that they love it too. I highly recommend it. The reason I'm on here today is because I'm buying one as a gift for my nephew.

No problems with ours. My boys ages 5 & 9 like it a lot! . We have a larger set of this same stuff. My kids love it. We have had it for an entire year and have used it many times. Our bottles never have had any trouble with drying out. We are still using the original ones we got with our set and have made many aliens over 12 months. The kids will forget about the toy for a few weeks then they get it out and the martian mania starts all over again. No problems with ours.

Note that the aliens themselves do dry up if you don't keep them stored airtight. Our aliens don't ever last long because the boys like to leave them out and play with them. They shrivel up and go into the trash after a few days.

My Boys Love It! . My 5 year old received this for his birthday last year and it was a big hit. The boys have made "lucky fishing lures" for their dad and uncle to take on their fishing trips. It is one of those toys that is played with for a couple of hours one day and then put in the closet and pulled out again in a few weeks and the fun starts all over again. We did not have any problems with the mud or gel except that they have used it so often that we have to order more! A great toy!

So-So . This toy was messy and boring and I was happy to get rid of it when we ran out of the blue and yellow goo. The only reason I gave it some stars is because my 4 year old loved watching me play with it---that's right, he didn't actually want to get his hands dirty, but he loved watching others do it. The tweezers are horrible and the cover of the box looks way more exciting than it actually it. I'm glad I only spent $5 on this product when it was on sale!

One cool creative toy! . My kids had the spaceship version a year ago. On my son's 6th birthday, he remembered playing this toy and this toy is what he wanted the most. This is the third set we bought. His 4-yr-old sister also love playing with him with this toy. Out of all the Alien Makers' kit, this is the most inexpensive that is a complete kit and not a refill.

This is one fun cool CREATIVE toy. This toy is not cheaply made but made of sturdy thick plastic. It has a plastic knife for dissecting and a plastic tweezer. In the middle is a small light table where you can place the aliens for examination; which explains why you need a battery. (You don't need the batteries to create the aliens, just strictly for lights and effects!)

You create the molds by pressing the aliens into the Meteor Mud (seems like a regular play-doh). Then you pour the Lunar lava into the mold. They love to combine colors to create colorful aliens. It will take around 5 minutes for the lunar lava to solidify into a gel. Make sure to cover the mold with a flat Meteor Mud or it will not set properly. No heat needed to set. Since the mold is made up of play-doh like material, it is very easy to remove the aliens. The stuff are non-toxic. Each bottle of lunar lava is 2 oz. There are 2 bottles included and you can makes a lot of aliens with them. This is a pretty nice gift for kids 5 years and above.

Minor Cons:

- Non toxic, but if you have allergy from wheat, this product contains wheat.

FUN - my son hasn't stopped playing with it . Fun and economical. My son has played with this product every day since receiving it.

lab playset . If your kids like play-doh, they'll like this playset. The biggest drawback is having to reorder the play-doh whenever they run out. It would help with eye - hand co-ordination and muscle development

Once gel is opened it dries in 24 hours . My son got this for his birthday party Friday night. He made one alien and another on Saturday morning. It is now Sunday morning and both alien gels have turned solid in their containers...even with the top on. This toy was a lot of fun and now I have a 7 year old in tears. Of course I can purchase replacement gel for more $ to have the toy last as expected. Gotcha! I checked the packaging and there is no warning that the gel will harden once opened. We followed the directions. The caps were on tight and the unused gel solidified right in the bottle. This toy is pretty much a one shot deal. Save your money.

play doh fishy fun! . My daughter is 4 and loves play doh. She loves playing with this toy the stage lights up and there are step by step directions that show her how to make fish, starfish, and an octopus it even comes with tools to help create the shapes. The only thing I didn't like was that it didn't come with play doh containers so we just put the play doh in ziploc bags and made sure all the air was out. So far the play doh is still very soft.

Great fun for little ones . This is a wonderful way for little hands to create something before they have the coordination to shape playdough completely. My two year old can build a train, a plane and a helicopter (his favorite things) all on his own with this kit. He enjoys mixing and matching to create totally new inventions, too. The only thing that makes it a little awkward is that the playdoh is so soft some of creations fall apart too easily. However, if you use playdoh that is a little past it's prime -- it will stay together perfectly.Highly recommend it for ages 2 and up.

Great set for ages 2+ . I bought this last year for my 2 year old because I thought it was an easy way for him to "build" something with Playdoh. great fun . I got this for my son when he was 2, as an airplane toy. This kept him quiet and busy for almost an hour. It allowed him to build cars etc before he was coordinated enough to accomplish it with his legos. A great toy. He's very sad that we've lost many of the pieces, but he still uses the suitcase for pretend games.

Perfect for chubby baby hands . These are great for my 2 years old son's chubby hands! It makes him able to built something that we all know what it is, rather than a blob of Play-Doh that only he knows what it is and who gets mad at you when you can't tell what it is!

Play Doh Vehicle Creations . Our son is still a little young for this toy, but even at 18 months, he LOVES the vehicle pieces. He's into molding the "dough" now and even tries assembling vehicles himself. I think this toy will help him with dexterity. The pieces are not TOO small for his little hands, but are small enough that he has to work at where he wants to put them. He'll grow into this toy and I think we'll get lots of use from it. Great value for the price!

He Loves This Stuff! . Evidently, Play-Doh is a favorite gift item for little kids. We recently had a birthday party for our three-year-old boy and he got three different Play-Doh gifts. The biggest was the Magic Swirl Ice Cream Shoppe, which his grandfather spent several hours playing with. Go figure. The smallest was a set of four small containers. The kid loves them all. He tears them up, molds them into different shapes and sticks them back together again. Grandpa, sounding very knowing, indicated that they may be four colors now but they'll eventually be homogenized into one. After watching the kid a while, it made sense. In any case, the kid loves the stuff and I understand (read - hope) it's easy to clean up.Gary Peterson

Play-doh . The truth is I bought this for a gas tank treatment. It plugs hole and resist chemicals. I didn't use it, but instead busted it out and played with it. I'm 56 years old. I ended up giving it to some kids and kept a can for myself. You're never too old.

The confetti play-doh is cool but the confetti maker is so-so . This looked like a fun play-doh tool but as far as fun goes it is only so-so. The coolest part of this set is the confetti play-doh which is white with neat bright colored dots of confetti in it.

The confetti maker itself is fine but would work better for older kids. My three year old son had a lot of trouble snapping the ring over the top of the maker and twisting it down so it stayed on. He got frustrated with it right away. He had a lot of fun watching the confetti come out when I did it though.

Also the confetti maker says it makes star, circle, and square shapes but because of how it is extruded all of the shapes look like little square blocks.

Overall my son kind of got a kick out of all the little small pieces falling out and he liked putting them on top of his play-doh cakes. It would work better for older kids though because it takes a lot of dexterity to get the confetti maker closed and ready to go.

As a parent I didn't like the toy much. There are tons of little pieces of play-doh everywhere. I was picking them up off the floor forever. The confetti maker is also really deep so it is hard to get all the play-doh cleaned out.

It's an okay set, but there are better ones out there. I would recommend the Play-doh Star Wars Playsetover this one.

TONS of fun... design could be better . My 2-1/2 year old son ADORES this, although some of the tools are still a bit sophisticated for his age. He will play with it for up to an hour, which is longer than he stays engaged with anything else. It really stimulates his creativity. In addition to all the tools, the playset/carrier itself has reliefs (moon, star, etc.) you can use to mold Play-Doh shapes. The latch on the playset is tight and takes some strength for even an adult to open/close, and the cans of Play-Doh don't fit snuggly enough into the carrier... so they fall out if you try to carry the set around by the handle. It's hard to fit all the tools back into the compartments, and overall the set's a bit unwieldy to store or carry. We've since bought other Play-Doh sets that are less bulky but equally entertaining.

Too big and doesn't work too well . We are not impressed with this playdough set. Storage compartment is hard to open and barely fits the tools it came with. Tools are decent variety. The tools at the front, the shape pusher and the head are great concepts, but they don't work well. It takes a LOT of muscle to push the playdough through, not possible to do by a toddler. The shape is even worse than the head because it doesn't fit lot of playdough and you only get a short shape noodle. The head is cute, but both have so much room on the inside, lot of playdough gets stuck in it and the dough tends to get stuck in the holes. The only way to get it out is to let it try, then shake. or you could use a sharp object like a thin stick, but who wants that around toddlers? Definitelly not safe. And the shape molds on the container would be great, but if you mold a letter, it is a mirror image. You can see it correctly on the container and mirror image on the playdough, It should be the other way round to my opinion. And it takes so much room, we don't have much room left on our play table if we put this there. So, this ended up in the closet except some of the tools that we still use, hence the two stars and not one. The playdough storage is a nice idea, but really, not necessary. It only fits 5 containers anyway. Waste of money.

Play-doh really is fun for all . There is nothing that will ever measure up to the amazing potential of Play-Doh, at least not for the affordable price that Play-Doh is available for. For less than $2 you can purchase four full sized pots of Play-Doh in a variety of colors; else you can spend a little more and purchase this Party Pack and get a variety of ten different colors for the equally affordable price of $2.99.

The affordability of Play-Doh is not the only plus to the famous modeling clay, I absolutely adore the clay for it's educational factors as well. Between the physical actions involved in molding Play-Doh which allows younger children to exercise small hand muscles and increase development, to the social interaction involved in Play-Doh dates and parties. There are many things that allow children to develop whilst playing with the clay.

Another plus to Play-Doh clay is the color education factor. Children can create their own colors by molding together two or even three various colors of clay and consequently learn all about color mixing and development. The unfortunate factor to this is that once the clay colors are mixed it is impossible to pull out the original colors from the clay; however, this does teach children about permanence of actions which is not always a bad thing.

In a nutshell the only drawbacks I have with Play-Doh is that it does not last when left out of the can and it is not waterproof, both of this things are simply the nature of the beast and come with the makeup of the clay itself.

Wow all the colors . My granddaughter and I play with Play-Doh almost everytime she comes to stay with me. I was away for a while and her old ones dried up so I sent for this Case of Colors. Oh my! She was so excited, there are different colors in this case, colors we've never had before. She especially loves the brown. I like the smaller size, since it's just the two of us playing. We can still make all the things we did with the larger containers, only now we have more colors to choose from.

Good fun and age appropriate . Sometimes, happily, there is much enjoyment to be found outside electronics! My 5 year old grand-daughter loves her play doh...and her 6 year old sister, her 30-somethings parents and her 50-somethings grandparents are finding much enjoyment also! (Tactile creativity? Very hard to beat that, plus all hands in the dough!).

Great Set! . Playdoh is a classic and a must have for any child. This set is fantastic for any kid who likes to create with more than one color at once. It also works wonderfully for group activities. Just pass out each playdoh container and let the kids go to town! They often end up trading bits of playdoh anyway and all have a blast! It also offers a nice variety of colors in this pack.

Cons Review

Not What I Expected . There are 2 different pictures of this product on Amazon; one is a pyramid of what appears to be large cans of Play-doh and the other is a box of 10 small colors, and the prices are $15 and 7 respectively. I ordered the pyramid, which I expected to be 10 full sized cans, and received the box of 10 2oz. cans, that are pictured and sold for $7 on Amazon. We love play-doh but were misled and ripped off here.

OK choice for party favors . Bought these as party favors for my three year old's birthday - they are a larger size can than the ones in the "party pack" . I bought two packages and there are colors I wouldn't give out to kids as party favors - white, black and brown - so now we can two cans each of those colors for our use here at home. My son isn't too picky on the colors and they get all mixed up anyway so it is not a big deal. We keep a can in our diaper bag to pull out if he gets restless when we are out to eat or whatever.

The only complaint I have is that the unit doesn't have any kind of grippies on the bottom to keep it from slipping across the table. Awesome! . My daughter loves the Fun Factory. She could play with it for hours if you let her. I love how it is a more traditional Play-Doh toy. It allows for more imaginative play.

Good PlayDoh toy . My 3-yr old likes playing with this PlayDoh toy. She can stuff the play-doh in the pump mechanism and can usually pump it out herself. The only problem is that the play-doh gets stuck in the cracks and it's really hard to get out. Then it gets crusty and you have to chip it out. For the price, it's a great value. The attachments offer lots of options to squeeze the PlayDoh out with. It's a fun toy overall.

It turns out the Play-Doh fun factory does actually manufacture fun . My two kidlets (ages 3 years and 19 months) both love Play-Doh and they especially fight over the "dat squish pway-dow fing." So if you have two kids who struggle with concepts like sharing, or not hitting their sibling over the head for failing to share, then buy two of these.

My daughter loves this Fun Factory . My 3 year old daughter enjoys playing with Play dough using cookie cutters and this 'Fun Factory'. We had a very long drive to grandmas for Christmas. She played with it in the car on the way to grandmas, at grandmas, and on the drive back. She really liked squishing the dough and having it come out in different shapes and making 'snakes', as well as cutting the dough into pieces. It was also a bonus when colors were mixed together. I admit the dough will dry out where the cutter slides in place, and cleaning out the squisher before storing it helps a lot to make it easier to use the next time.

PlayDoh Creative Fun Factory . I bought this as a gift and I think they will love it, they have been really into playing with PlayDoh and this is a great product for it. It was delivered in two days.

Cons Review

Fun for kids less so for adults . Fun for the kids, but kind of a pain to clean. Lots of tight places where the Play Doh gets trapped. Also, it could use some rubber feet to prevent slipping. There are holes on the bottom that seem to be where rubber feet should go, but none are present, nor are they included in the box.My daughter accidentally separated the arm from the base, but it was easy enough to reattach. However, if one of the plastic pins happens to break, it will become useless.In summation: fun, but kind of frustrating.
