therapistmom . I initially bought this as a toy for work. Playdough is a great fine motor activity and can be used in a variety of ways during therapy sessions for kids of all ages. Of course, it found it's way into my 2 year olds hands and she loves it! Rolling out the dough and pressing out shapes..she could do this for hours. The plunger is a little difficult to use for little hands, and it may cause frustration if there is not and adult there to help. The little scissors are also a big hit and a great way to teach scissor skills. The bucket also keeps everything together. And if the playdough only gets put in the bucket and not their little containers..it still stays fresh.

Hours of fun . I'm the grandmother, who loves to play with the kids. I bought this for my 3 year old grandson several years ago. Now his 3 year old sister is still playing and enjoying all the accessory pieces. I also purchased a small playdoh table. It's always in the "playroom" in the basement. Playdoh is a great way for kids to express themselves and use their immagination.

great all in one storage for play doh . we got this when my son was 2. Not sure what else I can say about play doh - it's fun and colorful and really holds my son's attention. He loves to squish it and cut it and roll it into little balls and will play with it for hours if I let him.

What I like so much about this particular set is that everything stores so nicely in the bucket. The bucket cover has a nice "tuperware-like" seal which my son can't open by himself (which I like because I don't really want him taking this out without me). There are all kinds of cookie cutters in all different shapes and all of this, plus several tubs of play doh pack away nicely when you're done.

I would recommend play-doh as a great toy for toddler aged kids on up, and would recommend this set especially because it cleans up/stores away so well.

Very cute but not necessarily durable... . I purchased this doodle pro for my daughter for Christmas because she loves her mini one. She loved this one as well and has carried it around everywhere with her.

However, let me mention some of the pros and cons of the product since you are not reading this to find out if my child loved it or not.

Pros:

This is super cute, and it comes with stencils to increase the fun of using it.

The stencils are easily traceable even by my child (who happens to be in occupational therapy for fine-motor skills). I know some other reviewers mentioned that the tracing is not very dark, but I had no problem with it, and neither did my daughter.

There is a slot in the upper right hand corner to store the pen, so it does not hang out all of the time, and the handle makes the product easy to carry places.

Cons:

After using the product a few times, I noticed that it is not erasing as well or as thoroughly, so I'm ordering a replacement. Hopefully mine is a dud, and I'll update this review to that effect when I receive it.

The stencils can't be stored in the product, so they are easily lost. My daughter has been looking for the "pink one" for days now.

At any rate, at the price I purchased this, I am very happy, and my daughter loves it, so while I knocked off a star for the stencils storage and the erasing issue, I'm very pleased with it and would probably buy it again.

Awesome!! . My nephews are toy story freaks! They love this gift. The Magna Doodle itself but having the toystory stencils made the gift for them!

Tough Doodle Pro . This is a great doodle pro made by fisher price. I absolutely love that it has stencils with different Toy Story 3 characters which makes the doodle pro even funner! The characters look very much like the stencils when traced on the doodle pro. The only con i'd say about the product, is that it doesn't have a compartment to hold the stencils in. other than that, it is an excellent durable and fun doodle pro.

Great doodle pad for toddlers . This is a tough magnetic doodle pad. My 2 year old loves to scribble on it and its great not having to worry about him coloring on the sofa or walls. It has a place to store the pen but no place to store the stencils. Its a great size not too big or small. The Toy Story designs are really cute. The stencils are very detailed but should have a way of staying put when using them. Its ok for an adult to use but I would imagine small kids would have trouble using them. Overall a great value for $12.50 (got it as a lightning deal) I haven't seen a quality doodler for any cheaper than $15 but are generally almost $20.

Cons Review

Doodle Pro No . We have owned several Doodle Pros over the years, and I was excited to get this one for my 2 year old since she loves Toy Story. Well, the slides that you trace that come with it are not easy even for my 6 year old. They get lost since there is no where to store them and the pen doesn't have a way to not flop all around. At least it's attached so it doesn't get lost! The doodle pad part of the toy stays dark even though we slide the slider to clear it, but it doesn't all go away as others have done in the past. I wouldn't buy this or recommend it again. Although, the other Doodle Pro products that we've purchased in the past have always been great!

Very fun! . My son loved this and enjoyed being able to draw Buzz and Woody. Durable and easy to use, great for in the car.

Doodling fun . This toy is large and was fun for my young grandson on a long car ride but he doesn't play it a lot at home. The stencils do not adhere to the surface so it is hard for him to hold the board, the stencil, and the stylus to do the tracing so he usually just scribbles and erases. I was also a little disappointed that a magna doodle at this price did not include any of the shape magnets that you can press on the surface to make things. We have several in our church nursery that were cheaper than this and they included the magnets which is one of the children's favorite parts of playing with them. I thought they all came with it so I didn't check when I ordered this one.

Keep kids entertained . This was purchased as a birthday gift for a 6 year old boy. His mom informed me that not only did he use it, but so did his 9 year old brother. She said it kept them busy and gave her some much needed peace. When they were done she threw it into the washer and it came out clean and ready to go.

Cons Review

Not all that. . I bought the activity table cloth for my kids after seeing it in a magazine. It looked like fun and I suppose on some level it is, but it's mostly a pain.
It's not like a table cloth; it's more like a diaper changing pad. It's thick and squishy which makes coloring on it pretty awkward.
The good part is: if you use washable markers (for quality I would recommend Crayola Washable Markers - not the markers it comes with) then it does wash clean and can be used again.
We pull this out sometimes on rainy days, but if we didn't have it, we could find plenty of other things to do.
It's just not all that.

A good purchase . Santa bought this for my 5 yr old daughter. I waited to review it as I wanted to see how clean it came when it was washed. It did come perfectly clean--even using washable markers that did not come with it. I would say it is appropriate for 4-7 yr olds. Children older than that would not be challenged by the word finds or dot to dots as they are not that hard. Overall a good toy. My daughter likes it.

Absolutely great for small kids . Amazing gift for boys or girls. I gave it to my 3 year old nephew, and both his 4 year old sister and 18 month cousins love it. It's huge (can easily accomodate 4 kids playing in it) and to wash. I would very highly recommend it!

Great fun!! . I bought this tablecloth for my daughter's baptism because there was at least 12 toddlers that needed to be entertained.. I bought them each a pack of Crayola washable markers (a customer review stated that the markers included don't wash that good). The kids actually filled both sides and they loved it. Long story short my mother-in-law was here from Spain for the baptism and she was impressed with the tablecloth and the fact that it's washable. She immediately thought of taking one home with her for my niece and nephew there. I just gave her mine instead of ordering another one. She's been back for a week and they had used it twice and she washed it twice. She said it looked like new each time but she let it air dry. The kids love it.

Great product! . My three-year old son really loves using these - he consistently chooses them over markers or crayons for his drawing lately. The size and shape make them easy for him to hold, and have the benefit of developing a "correct" hold for penmanship later on. There is a nice range of colors, some quite bold (he is particularly fond of the yellow for this reason) and others more pastel (like the lavendar) that don't show well on white paper, but are nice on dark construction paper. The crayons mark easily - he does not need to apply excessive pressure to get coverage that he is satisfied with. He also really likes opening and closing the drawstring bag they are stored in.

Great for little hands and creative minds! . My 2.5 year old son got these in his stocking this year along with a curious george coloring book. He really loves them. The little "sack" to carry them in is genius! He loves dumping them out, counting them and replacing them in their "hidey bag". They are easy enough to color with though the lines aren't very precise he doesn't mind though. They have quickly become a favorite and I'm planning to buy the stars next probably for easter.

Tiny little crayon stones are treasure for preschoolers! . As other reviewers have mentioned, these are small crayons. The sturdy little storage bag measures about 5 inches long, and the crayons are each about an inch long.

They are not toddler crayons, nor are they cutesy novelty crayons.

Any preschooler will know exactly what to do with these - the smooth, appealing little "rocks" are a perfect fit for a small hand, and make bold, beautiful strokes on paper. From my experience, traditional crayons will sit untouched as the crayon rocks are selected over and over again.

The crayon rocks are durable and don't break or crumble under normal conditions, There are no wrappers or flimsy boxes to mess with, and they last a surprisingly long time. Neat product, and I imagine many children will grow up with fond memories of crayon rocks!

Purchased for 4 yr. old grandaughter . My grandaughter loved the crayons. Easy to hold and did not break like regular crayons.

Gets any kid excited to draw! . I have purchased these for many a relative's kids from 3-7 years of age. When they opened them they seem to gravitate to them and know exactly what to do with them. Very few products are so instinctual. The colors are attractive and they are very hard to break compared to stick crayons. They also don't have paper that gets in the way as with regular crayons. They are long lasting (I gave these to some kids almost 3 years ago and they're still using them!) and don't pick up colors from other pieces even though they share a bag. They have multiple surfaces for drawing lines and shading and they are much easier to draw with, they have a buttery consistent texture- petroleum crayons tend to skip. They are made in the US. They are made with soy as opposed to petroleum. I recently read that products- like petroleum crayons- are labeled non-toxic because chemicals, such as petroleum products, have never been tested and therefore there is no data to prove otherwise! (see "The Artist's Complete Health and Safety Guide", Monona Rossol. Allworth Press, NY, co-published with the American Council for the Arts) As mentioned by others, the bag is genius! For some reason it seems easier for kids of that age to throw them in a bag than a box- and they love the bag. They have been a hit for every kid I've ever bought these for. Others have thanked me when I recommended them for the same reason.

Bought for 7 y/o with non-functioning pencil grip . What you gain in tripod grip function, you lose due to waxy feel. It is very hard to maintain a grip on these because your fingers slide around. My son lost interest quickly because his already weak hand muscles couldn't keep hold of the crayons. Will continue to try, but not sure I like these overall.

Love them . These are a great shape from younger children. My two year old colors much better with crayons with this shape. Some of the colors don't work as well, they come out really light.

Great colors! . I love these for my kids little hands (18 months and 3YO). They are very bright and easy to hold... just keep them away from the family dog... :( I love the pouch, it is great for my kids to put in their backpacks before a trip and much easier than a box that gets bent and beat up. Great buy even if they are a little more expensive then other crayons.

Teaches great fine motor skills to my toddler son . My son is a little behind in fine motor skills so we have been trying things to encourage him to advance while he's still a toddler. These crayon rocks were used by his therapist so I got some. They work really well because they force the child to use their fingertips to color rather than holding a giant crayon in their fist. The rocks are small so he has to grip them using fine motor skills but it's fun at the same time. And, he can't break these things like he has all other crayons. I liked them so much I bought a set for my 3-year-old nephew for his birthday along with a coloring pad.

A Simple Recyclable and Fun Way to be Creative! . I am so glad that I stocked up on two of these! The kit is generously stocked with a variety of play-doh colors and crafting implements, and the canister is reusable as a storage container. I love that the set provides the materials, but that children must use their own creativity to develop the activity in a fun and imaginative way. I guess that's the "retro" part of it -- so many other crafting games overly structure children's play experiences (e.g., providing a Dora the Explorer backdrop to accompany tubs of play-doh). This item allows the child to drive the learning and exploration! Sometimes, a simple, traditional toy is the most "educational" of all!

Great Play Doh toy . This is really cute. We loved the retro canister. The set includes all the basics that your little one needs to make some awesome creations. The canister can be a bit tricky for little ones to open which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how independant you want your child to be.

The canister set makes a great gift just because the packaging is unique with that retro feel that is popular.

Play-Doh at Its Best . The children loved this canister full of tools and Play-Doh from the momement they opened it. The tools are sturdy, the play-doh was generous and the fun has ended. A constant form of entertainment for them.

I love all of Alex's Little Hands toys . I love doing crafty activities with my kids but it ends up really messy after they work with scissors and every thing else. Alex has put together these projects very effectively because the kids can skip the complicated stuff and go right to being creative. I never run out of these because they are great for when my daughter's friends come over. They stay occupied for at least an hour and end up feeling super proud of themselves.

Another great "kit" set from Alex . So far my favorite Alex kit is the bug set, but this comes in second.
The pros and cons are below.

PROS
-each kit is individually wrapped with the needed items in it, so you just grab one of the six and you're good to go, no sorting out the different pieces (a big deal if you have an impatient toddler)
-no glue is necessary, all parts are either stickers or use the bendy pipe cleaners to secure items
-creatures are very cute
-fine motor skills not necessary, these are easy enough for 3 year olds and up to manage.
-simple instructions (visual not text) that even my four year old can understand
-cardboard backing is very sturdy
-bright colors and interesting textures

CONS:
-the sticker sheet has rather small stickers to pull off, and they tear easy. An adult needs to hand the stickers to the kid.
-the stickers aren't repositional, which would be helpful in some cases
-these sets are a bit simpler than Alex's critter/bug set, so they only take about 10 minutes tops per kit. Possibly great for distracted kids.

All in all, these are a great way to entertain a child without needing scissors or glue-minimal mess! Beats playdough!

Fun craft kit for kids . My 3 1/2 year old son received this craft kit for Christmas. I love that everything we needed to complete this craft was included in the box. The "Loopy friends" are 6 different sea creatures - a fish, seahorse, jellyfish, turtle, crab, and an octopus. Each one is packaged in its own bag with the "loops" that you will need. There is one sheet of stickers and illustrated instructions to show you how to make each sea creature.My son was able to assemble these almost completely on his own once I showed him what to do. He did need help with attaching pieces (for example, the crab has glasses that attach to the top of his body).The pieces themselves are very sturdy. When I read "paper pieces" I was expecting something flimsy. Instead, they are very colorful, sturdy cardboard. The chenille stems (the "loops") are varied in size, texture and color for each sea creature. The projects don't last long, but they are perfect for a quick project and short attention spans. I do wish they had included more stickers. My kids tend to over-sticker their projects and it would have been nice if there wasn't a fear of running out before we completed all 6.Overall though this is a great craft kit that kids will enjoy.

best pencil . These pencils are worth the money. I use them for everyday use. The lead is a perfect darkness. The grip makes it possible to write longer without hand fatigue. It is also helpful to my 9 year old who is a lefty and has poor handwriting. I prefer pencils to pens and love these pencils in particular.

Looks like Amazon might have this way overpriced . I just found what appears to be this same PlayDoh BBQ set at the Toys R Us website for $11.99. Since Amazon is charging $29.99, I thought the Toys R Us set must be smaller, so I headed back to their site and studied the photo carefully. They appear to be the exact same set, both weighing around 10 ounces.I've never left a review for something I haven't yet purchased, but I thought other budget-conscious shoppers would appreciate the heads up. I gave it four stars so I wouldn't significantly affect the toy's Amazon reputation for the worse. Plus, we've always been very happy with the many, many PlayDoh play sets we've bought over the past 10 years, so I figure the BBQ set will also be a fun, quality toy.Slam me if you will, but I always appreciate other reviewers steering me toward better prices when the cost difference is this considerable.BTW, I'm buying this set for my 5 year old son who loves to serve me SpongeBob crabby patties and other fast food type stuff he makes out of Legos. Fun Play-doh toy . This is a fun little bbq set. The "bbq" is actually just a picture on a piece of paper and you can imagine how long that will last if it doesn't blow away first. The set is a little difficult to figure out and is geared more toward the advanced play doh users. But there are a lot of different items you can make and play with so even if you can't make perfect hot dogs (my 3 year olds have a hard time)it is still a lot of fun.

My 2? year old son LOVES it. . He loves pretending to 'cook' & 'grill' like mommy & daddy. While this item is marked for a 3yr old & older, my son is always under foot when preparing food. I allow him to 'cook' on his grill while I cook on the stove. It has been a happy time for us both in the kitchen.

Primer for Young Grillers . Play-Doh toys usually live up to their name - durable, functional, and enjoyable - and this particular product is no different. Includes the necessary dough to grill up enough fake hamburgers for the whole family.This is a little more of an "advanced" Play-Doh set; have to spend time teaching about how a grill works - where to put the food, where all the "stamps" are located (to make the different food items) - especially if you rarely grill out in real life (like us).Additionally, if your kid hates meat (like ours) and you mistakenly purchased this set instead of another one (like I did), the enjoyability factor based on product description and intended use may diminish quite a bit. Still, ours found a way to conjure up other ways to use it and have fun - the roasting spit was a highlight.

great for kiddos . My 3 1/2 year loves this toy. Great for his imagination on what he can make for everyone. He plays with it for hours. Worth it!!

Gift that was a real hit! . This play-doh set was a gift for a 6 year old and he really loves it. His Mom said he would rather play with his play-doh than almost any other toy he has. A great gift. Highly recommend.

Lots of fun! . Adorable Backyardigan play-doh toy! The pirate theme is absolutely adorable. The pieces are very durable - although some are smaller then I'd like! They clean up really easily! I thought play doh might get stuck in the canon (its where you push the playdoh out through it and it makes it into shapes/spaghetti-ish). But I was surprised! The cardboard backing is a bit of a pain so we don't usually attach it. Some of the pieces don't do much. The set only comes with a couple small containers of play doh so for ultimate enjoyment you'll need more playdoh! But its cute and durable...and we got it for a great price!

lots of fun . My boys love this toy, but....
The peices are easy to lose because some of them are small. Also the cardboard background went in the trash the first day. However, they do play with it all the time. I have 3 boys and they have yet to break any of their playdough toys so I'd have to say it's pretty durable!!!

Waste of money for younger children . We have two boys, one 2 1/2 and the other 3 1/2. When I saw 36 months as the lower recommended age, I figured this must be somewhat durable. We immediately had to get rid of the cardboard background because it wouldn't stay in place. Also know that the base (looks like sand) and the ship do not lock together. The ship has notches and simply sits on the pegs of the base but they are in no way secure to each other. So when they try to put the pieces back on the boat (cutting wheel, plank), the set falls apart. The little Pablo figure that comes with it has been the biggest hit of this playset. I wouldn't recommend it for younger children.

Great Pencils - but How to Sharpen? . These pencils are sturdy and easy for my kids to hold. Our set didn't include a vinyl case - but more importantly - how do you sharpen them? They are triangular and don't fit into our sharpener.

Wonderful size beautiful colors my favorite jumbo colored pencils . We have six children, and colored pencils are our preferred coloring tool. They are less easily damaged by chewing than markers or crayons, and you can't color on yourself like with markers. Also the colors are more sophisticated. So, we have tried quite a few jumbo colored pencils for our preschoolers and toddlers. This set by Melissa & Doug is easily my favorite, and here's why:

* Triangular shape. The corners are nicely rounded so it's comfortable to grip. But, the triangular shape makes for easier gripping and keeps the pencils from rolling away.

* Long length. Many jumbo colored pencils are shorter than standard colored pencils; these are not, which means more use.

* Many vibrant colors. Gorgeous, vivid colors are better than some we've tried, and I've never seen jumbo colored pencils in a set bigger than 8 or 12.

The only thing I would change is that these pencils do not have the color names written on them. That would be helpful sometimes in distinguishing between similarly colored pencils. There are two brown ones that have an almost identical exterior, and it would be easy to pick the wrong one when trying to match previous drawing. However, these pencils are still good enough to warrant a 5-star rating, and I recommend them to any parent of preschoolers or toddlers.

another great Melissa and Doug product - no vinyl case as stated . After loving Melissa and Doug crayons I thought I would give these a try for my almost three year old daughters. These pencils are great. They are thick, durable, brightly colored, and easy for little hands to grip and hold correctly. Definately worth the money. However, if you are expecting a clear vinyl case as the description states, I did not receive one. My pencils came in a an ordinary cardboard box with no case. This is not a problem for me and I honestly forgot that it stated that until I came back to write my review. But, I wanted to let you know in case it is a deciding factor for you.

Melissa and Doug's Jumbo colored pencils . These pencils are wonderful. The colors are bright, the triangular shape is easy to hold, and they are very sturdy. Just right for my grandson's 3 year old hands and for my arthritic ones. Excellent quality as always from Melissa and Doug. I've never been disapointed with any of the many products I've purchased made by them.

First Review Ever . I'm writing this review, first one ever, to say WTH... no sharpener... so within 5 minutes of her flattening out the pink one... this set became unusable to us...as she could just start coloring and then never be able to finish whatever she was working due to the lack of a sharpener. I love most Melissa and Doug products but this is a huge FAIL. In searching online for the only available German Kum Special Diameter sharpener for triangular pencils, which I'm gonna have to order, I see that most other triangular color pencil sellers include the sharpener...go for them in spite of your love for Melissa and Doug and buy their other products but not these pencils. Fun and Great Help in Holding Pencils Correctly . If the question is whether the 4 year old was thrilled...well, she oohed about getting all the pretty pencils but it wasn't her favorite Christmas present. From her mother's and my perspective, it was a GREAT gift! Having 24 colors is outstanding; the pencils being triangular will help her learn how to hold pencils properly. They'll be used and they'll be helping her and she'll have fun. That makes them perfect in my book!

Best colored pencils you can buy! . My 2 year old loves to color and we already have the Melissa & Doug jumbo crayons. THESE ARE AWESOME! They sharpen well with a jumbo size pencil sharpener and the tips rarely break. The shape is perfect for not rolling away. LOVE, LOVE LOVE!!!

Good idea....keeps my child busy . The only problem I had this item was the instant I took it out of its plastic wrap and opened it up, the chalkboard fell out of its hinges on the top. A little bit of extra strength super glue fixed it and am hoping the dry erase side doesn't fall out later. Otherwise my 2.5yr old loves writing with the chalk and putting magnetic letters on the other side. Great investment - even if I have chalk dust all over my floor.

Melissa and Doug magnetic dry erase easel . I like this little easel very much. I teach literacy and I needed something I could put on top of a table. It allows the kids to have a close view of the letters and words. Since painting is not part of my program, I use the holders for my pencils and markers...Perfect! I have to transport it back and forth several times from my literacy program site to my car, so I do wish that it folded without my having to unscrew the wooded pegs each time. However, if you have a permanent spot for this little easel, you will just love it!

My daughter loves this toy! . My 8 year old daughter got this for Christmas last year and she loves it. She keeps it on her short dresser which is nice because it doesn't take up floor space. She plays with it all the time. She loves to play school with her little sister and friends. It has been durable, the only issue I had was my daughter wiped the chalkboard side with a wet paper towel a few times and it started to warp the board a little. You can't tell unless you push hard on it in a certain spot. This is definitely one toy we have gotten our moneys worth out of.

Great Idea--Poor Execution . This table-top easel would be a great and useful "toy" if it were made well. We homeschool and have had this easel for a couple of years. It almost immediately fell apart. We have re-glued and re-stapled it several times. All Melissa and Doug painted-wood items we have purchased have not held together. This is because all the individual parts are painted before gluing, and the joints don't hold. As I stare at the pieces of this easel, which has fallen apart YET AGAIN, I would suggest that you search for a better table-top easel.

both received broken...poor product . both were received broken. Glue didn't hold produc together. it fell apart when it was opened. the would was so fragle it cracked in my hand...very disapointed.

Just what I was looking for. . This easle is the perfect size, not to big not to small. Great on top of my daughters little table and chairs. Her brother can use one side and she can use the other at the same time.

Very durable. They dropped it on the floor the other day and I found them riding it like a horse but it was no trouble at all.

The only problem that we are having is that the boards on each side are starting to come loose. I think I'm going to wait until they peel off a little more and then glue them back on. Right now it's not affecting it's use.

easel hunter . My 3year old son loves this easel. I like it because it sits on the table instead of most of them that take up a lot of room on the floor. We have had this easel for a year now and it has been pretty durable, one of the wooden screws will not stay screwed in anymore but it isn't an issue.

Cons Review

Easel(y) a Great Purchase . This is a great easel. The two sides provide a choice between chalk (which is what we're using most with my two year old) or dry erase marker. One of the best features is the magnetic surfaces on BOTH chalkboard and dry erase surfaces. You can play with this easel either on a table top or just on the floor. Educationally, the sky is the limit.

I highly recommend this easel. It' great fun. Easel(y), one of the best purchases we've made for our child.

I have had the same problems with this as others . As soon as I took it out of the plastic and picked it up, the easel fell apart. I was so upset because I was looking forward to opening this item and immediately surprising my child with some quality time and activity.

This is poorly put together, but once you use some glue and let it sit for while to dry it should be fine. My child absolutely loves the easel. Learning ABC's and numbers(education), drawing pictures(creativity), and playing connect the dots with straight lines(dexterity) all keep a child occupied, happy and more importantly interested.

Great idea. Poorly built product that can be fixed with some epoxy. I would have given 5 stars if it didn't immediately fall apart right out of the original packaging.
