Easy to make pottery but not too strong. . This pottery wheel is a lot of fun for my 11 year old daughter. The first time we use it, she did not add enough water to the clay, so the machine labored quite a bit. It then shut off to cool for about 10 minutes. It came back on after that. She now kneads more water into her clay before putting it on the wheel so the machine does not labor too much. She really likes it. You can purchase refill packs of the clay as well. The wheel moves at one speed that is fairly slow. The only real downside that I can see is that it is a bit loud. But it is not a nuisance to us.

Great for any age!! . I bought this for my granddaughters 8th birthday!! This was easy to use , and fun even for grandma , I also let her try to do it herself after the first bowl she made, and the bowl was better then the one we did together!!She loves it!!

Wheel didn't work . I bought this for my granddaughter for her birthday and was very disappointed that it didn't work. We put in new batteries and the wheel would turn for a a minute or two at a time and then stop. We gave up after about 10 minutes and put it back in the box.

Pleasantly surprised! . I didn't have much hope for a pottery wheel/kit in this price range. But my daughter wanted one so I decided to take a chance on it. I must say, it works better than I expected. The wheel spins at a good pace and is controlled by a foot pedal that is easy to operate by my 8-year old. The instruction booklet is very thorough and has tips for making operation easy. The clay does slip off the wheel at times but if you follow the advice in the book and dry off both the wheel and the clay, it seems to work better. The only frustration is in making anything more involved than a small, shallow dish or "pinch pot". I hope with more practice she/we will be able to make the taller vase that's on the box.

more art than writing . I bought this for my 5.5 year old who is half way through kindergarten. She loves to make books (drawing pictures and writing about them) so I thought a hard cover pop up book about HER would be perfect. She does love the book, however, if you're looking for a book where your child is doing writing, this is not the book for you. I assumed that there would be areas for my child to read and fill in and WRITE about herself but that is not really the case. The first two pages are like this - it asks her name, nickname, age, hair color, birthday, etc - but the rest of the book doesn't require the child to do any other writing, it just requires the child to draw pictures about the given topic (family, home, etc). She still loves it and it's cute but it does not require writing (except for the first 2 pages) so the child's not really making a book, but drawing in one.

The books comes with markers and stickers and spirals to make pop ups so it is a fun activity.

overall I would purchase again but I wanted to let other buyers know that it's not really a book making / writing activity since it's mainly focused on drawing pictures.

Great Idea . This is a good project for parents or grandparents to do with their young children. It's not so much a "Pop Up" book, as a "Fold Out" book, but the pages are focused on people and activities children can apply their artistic talents to illustrate. I rated it down on durability, because some of the pages came already bent in the wrong places and the paper in it is not exactly archival quality.
It comes with cut-outs to color that would be nicer if they were stick-on, but you need to provide your own glue to get them on the pages. Otherwise, it's good gift. I think most children about 5-10 years old would enjoy it.

This is fun! . My 5 year old grandson loves to have pop up books read to him. One day he said he wanted to make a pop up book of his own. So I looked on Amazon and found this kit, "The Pop Up Book of Me". It was a wonderful way to start with pop ups! The kit is easy to use and much of the book is already assembled. We did practice drawing some pages first on paper before putting them in the book. You could do this every year with a child with different results, based on their age and creative talents. I recommend this highly.

Impressed . I ordered this for a 4 year old girl for Christmas. I had a $20 limit and wanted something that was of good quality. After reading reviews of different products, this is the one I chose. After she opened her gift we started to play with it right away. I was impressed with the quality of the polish. I thought that it would be very cheap and barely cover our nails but that wasn't the case at all. There were also nail pens that were very fun to play with. We used them to put each letter of my cousin's name on her nails. The pens wrote so clearly. Included was a good number of stickers to put on your nails but only enough jewels for one person.
The problem is after playing with the pens for 30 minutes both were broken. They have a very small metal tip that the polish comes out of and is very cheaply made.

Overall we were very impressed with this child's gift. If you are extremely careful with the nail polish pens everything will be great!

9 year old and friends love it! . My daughter loves this set. Its very well made, the nail polish isnt cheap and it stays on the nails nicely. Shortly after I purchased it for her, a group of her friends came over for a play-date. She painted all 8 girls and still has polish left over. The colors are perfect for any young girl, and the sizes are right for her to do it by herself. The only complaint are the stickers, but those never seem to stick on anyones nails out of any set I have ever gotten. Get this for any girl 7-12 and I am sure they will love it!

Kids loved it . I got this for my 7 year old for her birthday, knowing I'd have to help her with it. The product is good quality, and although she definitely wouldn't be able to do it (well) on her own, with my help she and her 4 year old sister got fabulous manicures. What a great non-messy craft! . I usually dread these things because they all seem to involve loads of glitter glue or sand, but this craft is glitter glue optional. You can just punch out the flowers and put the mobile together, or if you are up for it use the glue to add photos and decorate (or overdecorate) the mobile. I had as much fun as my daughter.
My favorite gift since Zimmbos.

Perfect preschool craft . We absolutely loved this craft. My daughter is 4 and she really enjoyed picking out which flower she would use, punching it out and then putting it together with other flower patterns. You do not have to do this as a mobile and you do not need to use photos unless you want to do so. We just made the flowers and then hung them all over her room. We are back to purchase another box becasue it was such an enjoyable activity.

Playfoam vs Playdough . I purchased this because of a newspaper article which indicated it was rated as one of the 10 highest preferred toys by CHILDREN. The newspaper indicated this could be for a child as young as 3, (my granddaughter is nearly 3), though the package says age 5. I had not actually seen this product and did not know what to expect, but I believe I expected "foam" of some type. Actually this product is very tiny styrofoam balls that are held together by an invisible sticky substance. We did not allow her to use the Playfoam unsupervised, but under supervision she loved making snakes and balls. When compared to Playdough, it was much easier to clean up if some dropped on the floor and even from the play surface. It held together fairly well, though the bulkier substance does not allow for fine molding like Playdough. Therefore don't plan to sculpt it. Details needed to be added by the accessories that came in this "activity set" such as eyes, windows, feathers (kind of a disaster because all parts of them would stick and it was nearly impossible to remove the little "balls" from the feather) Colors do not blend like Playdough--therefore mixing blue and pink will not give you lavender but is like pointillism due to the individuality of the styrofoam balls.

A big hit with the grade school crowd . I gave this product as a gift to a very bright seven year old who promptly turned it into all manner of interesting shapes. It has generated hours of entertainment with no mess or foul odor.

Dream Toy! . This stuff is wonderful! My 7 year old daughter loves it! She and her 5 year old cousin play with it constantly.

PlayFoam is toddler friendly . This product is great because unlike play-doh it doesn't dry up. My toddler can leave the lid off for days and days and it's no problem.

Did Not Live up to Its Promises Would Not Recommend . Bought this because it was described as not being messy and, actually, that true. Problem is it doesn't really stick together and it's nearly impossible to make most any of the animals shown. Even the adults couldn't make it work. The kids were frustrated and I was embarassed to have brought this gift to the party. I do not recommend.

Didn't Live Up to the Promises . Purchased this for my granddaughter's birthday and she wanted to try it out right away. 3 children and 2 adults tried to make these animals. Problem is it simply doesn't stay stuck together unless you make something simply like a round ball. The little plastic pieces would not stay for 2 seconds. It seems that in creating something that doesn't make a mess, which was a successful feature, they somehow made it so that it won't stay molded. All of us grew frustrated. I would not recommend this because while being no mess, it does not work well, and was no fun for the kids. Stick with PlayDoh, at least it sticks.

A few entertaining hours . I sent this to my godchild for her 7th birthday. She really enjoyed making the little books and reading them to her mother. Her mom told me it was one of her favorite gifts. If the child you're buying for loves to draw and read, this is a winner.

Create Your own 3 bitty books Reviews
Almost Instant Gratification! . There is something extra special about 'writing a book' to my kids that writing or drawing on plain paper or in a regular notebook just doesn't seem to approximate. These little books are just the right size and price for the kids to make something a little special, but not so expensive that I will be upset when they are eventually destroyed. (And they will be destroyed. These look more durable than I had expected given the price, but as another reviewer points out, the pages are just glued together.)

The books are about 4"x5" with 12 (or 24, I guess) pages inside each. Their binding, the stickers that come in the kit, and the book-holder box are all made of or covered in plain matte white paper and can be decorated with the markers. The paper inside the books is slightly heavier than regular printer paper but not quite cardstock. So far not even the five-year-old has managed to make the markers bleed through the paper.

Our eight-year-old has used another book-making kit in the past that involved writing and drawing on special pages, mailing those off, and then waiting and waiting and waiting to get the finished book back. We loved that kit and its finished product but it was definitely not instant gratification. It also cost about three times as much as this kit.

As nicely self-contained as this kit is, it would make a great travel/vacation toy or a great toy to have on hand if you're about to be visited by kids.

Did I mention we love it? We love it.

Create Your own 3 bitty books Opinions
Wonderful fun but slight durability issues . My niece and daughter (both four) recently spent hours making their own story books with this wonderful little kit. The books are a perfect size (about the size of a small board book, only with regular pages), the quality of the cover is excellent, and the girls greatly enjoyed making their own books. The only problem, however, was that the pages do come out a little too easily for my taste. The binding is not sewn, but rather glued in a little like a notepad, and a surprisingly small amount of force in the wrong direction can rip a page out. Still, on balance the price is fantastic for what you get. I would have enjoyed this kit very much as a kid. As it is, I was very tempted to save the third book for myself to use.

Great Creative Activity . I got this for my granddaughter, who has been making and stapling together her own books since she was 4 years old. Now that she is nearly 7 and a beginning reader, I thought it would be nice for her to make herself a real book, and she was very excited when she opened the package. This was a great idea someone had, of providing the materials for making 'real' books. The components appear to be of really good quality. I know it will provide hours of creative fun for her, and I couldn't be more pleased.

Great buy for your child's creative side . My son was making books at school from manilla paper and bringing them home to work on them further. This find was great. He loved having an actual hardcover book to color himself and put his own story into. The markers and stickers were a bonus as well. The books are good quality and have plenty of pages for a short story. I'm sure we'll look into purchasing this again. Fun for parent and child.

Perfect for the Kiddies! . I ordered two of the Creativity for Kids 3 Bitty Books - one arrived completely crushed and damaged, and the seller was MORE than accomodating to make right. They were excellent. In terms of the set, the stickers can be colored with the included markers...the books themselves are indeed itty bitty. They are hard covered and of good quality. I haven't given this to my nephews yet, but being they love making construction paper books, this will be PERFECT!

My kids love these . Simple concept, huge inspiration. Both my girls (ages 5 and 7) love these little books and spend hours writing and illustrating their latest stories. Highly recommended.

watch out...lots of sewing . I bought this for my 7 year old daughter's birthday. She loves a good craft...I'm not sure this is one. There is way too much sewing involved and very little 'craftiness'. I don't think she'll be able to do this one much on her own, which of course, takes away a lot of the fun. I wouldn't buy it again, but instead would by some of the other similar crafts...there is a sock puppet craft that is much easier and cuter (these things actually could turn out quite ugly)

Great for art on the go . I bought this for my 4 year old daughter for her birthday and she loves it. She uses it at home but it is especially good when we are going somewhere. It is a nice solid suitcase that holds lots of art supplies. It sets up easy and can keep her entertained for a long time. It has the easel, dry erase board and chalk board. The chalk board can be messy when erasing, just by the nature of chalk becoming powder. The pencils and pens and pastels are good quality. It comes with a pad. The pad is thin paper, it is good for sketches. The thin paper does not stay up in the clip well if it is just a single piece. The suitcase has drawers to keep supplies neat and organized and locks when you close the case, so things don't fall out. The drawers do not lock if you put the pad inside. It is not meant to be stuffed with extra things, as far as I can tell. This is good for older kids too. I bought it for my 6 year old neighbor for her birthday as she liked my daughters. She loves it too.

Fantastic! . I knew my six year old daughter would like it. I had no idea how much. She has used it every single day for a month. She has an easier time cleaning up when she's done, using the drawers, and it keeps her younger brothers from making messes with her art supplies, when she's not using it.

The clips for the easel don't hold well, as others have mentioned, and they especially do not hold the slick newsprint provided. A few sheets of blank printer paper do fine. Thick sketch paper does great. It might be nice to buy a real sketch pad to include with it, when giving it as a gift. Or to have a ream of printer paper on hand for your own children.

*It's been almost a year, and this is still a daily use item. It protects her art space from her younger brothers. The white board didn't last long, but she was never really interested in it. It's just the side where the paper goes. The chalk board is plastic, and will probably never wear out.

just okay - would not buy again . She loves it for now - but is currently frustrated that the paper will not stay on their clips. The chalk board is very messy and the drawers will not hold many standard size markers unless you put them in at an angle - which means less space. Disappointed that it cannot store it's own paper. Disappointed that the easel does not stay up in place easily. The markers, pastels etc. are nice quality though. I would sooner buy a nice closing book that can hold paper and pens than this again. We have only had it for a day and I am already thinking of getting rid of it.

Granddaughter Loved Loved Loved it! . My granddaughter, who is 6, received this for her birthday. She has loved it since day 1. So happy to see her enjoying this gift so much.

Great Value OK Product . I bought this easel for my toddler so that he could easily draw and color. I knew going in that all of the accessories (pencils, chalk, etc) would be put away until he was older, but thought the easel would get alot of use. I'm sure one day it will, but this really is for an older child. I completely agree with the other reviews about the paper holders not securing paper well. The construction of it seems a bit flimsy too. I figured since it was a travel easel, it'd be a little sturdier considering kids might be drawing in the car. If you're looking for an affordable easel, this is definitely worth the price. But, if you're looking for something substantial, keep looking.

The perfect and portable art kit for young children! . This is an outstanding design...a lap desk, an easel, storage for travel, a chalkboard, dry erase board, clips to hold paper in place, paper and many other supplies. It is easy to set up and very functional. So far it appears durable, though I would have preferred a heavier plastic; but well worth it. This would be appropriate for an older child except the bright colors. If your child is not bothered by the young appearance, it is totally suitable for any child 5 and up.

Do Art - Travel Easel . Bought this for my 6 year old granddaughter. She loves it. She is very artsy and this has a lot of different items that she can create with. I like the fact that everything can be stored inside and that the working area can either lay flat or sit up.

Cheap Cheap Cheap . I ordered this toy for my nephew who loves to write and draw. It is an activity that keeps him busy at restaurants, so I thought this travel case would be perfect. When it arrived, the clip to lock it was broken. The chalkboard doesn't clip in so when you write on it, it keeps falling and the clips that hold the pad in place are cheap and don't hold the new pad well. Also, if you put the pad inside the case so that it is altogether then it doesn't shut. I am not thrilled with this item at all.

My niece loves it! . My niece couldn't wait to use it. As soon as she opened it, she wanted to set it up and get started. There are many mediums for the mini Monet! Highly recommended.

Cons Review

3 months old and still used weekly . Bought this for my 5-year old daughter for Christmas. It's 3 months later and she still uses it at least once a week. Durable and easy to tote to the car for road trips.

Cute and fun but not very durable. Beware markers are NOT washable! . My 3 year old loves this set! It's a fun set of stamps and ink. One stamp did fall apart pretty quickly, but I was able to just glue the star back onto the back of it. No big deal.

The markers are described as being "washable" but beware, they are NOT! It took a lot of scrubbing to get it off my daughter's hand (and you can still see traces of it 2 days/baths later). The kid table is permanently stained, and it did not come off clothes in the wash. Lesson learned, don't let my 1 yr old play with these markers again! I assumed they would be like all our other washable markers and easily rinse right off. Not the case with these. Honestly, it washed off hands about as *easily* as permanent Sharpies do.

A bit over priced for the content . I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my 6 year old niece. I was excited about it because I love shrinky dinks and she loves horses. I thought it was a good activity we could do together. There just weren't too many horses to choose from. As a 6 year old she colors quickly and had an entire sheet completed in about 10 minutes. The kit would be better if there were stencils you could actually use over and over, but they are pre-printed sheets so once you use them they are gone.

Nostalgic fun . My daughter received this for her birthday and has had so much fun coloring the shrinky dinks and then watching them in the oven as they curl and shrink. I think they have gotten better than when I was a kid because they come out totally flat. This kit also includes items to make the shrinky dinks into purse decorations, necklaces, and rings. We'll definitely by buying more kits!

Shrinky Dinks I Love Horses Opinions
My daughter loved this product! . This Christmas (2010) I purchased this as a gift for my seven year old daughter who is an avid horse fan. This was the first I have experienced this product. I was a little skeptical, but in the end, I am glad I purchased this product. We both had a fun time and created wonderful memories together.

Helpful hints:
When coloring the pages, tell your child to color in the images darkly. The darker the colors are prior to putting in the oven, the brighter and vivid the finished product will turn out.
The instructions say 3-5 minutes in the oven, but I found this was not enough time (more like 5-7 minutes). It takes a few minutes for the cutouts to heat up. Then you will start to see them curl (this is the part both children and adults find so exciting!). The page will slightly curl up, but do not open the oven door because once they curl they will start to flatten out. Watch them and make sure all of the cutouts have flattened completely then take them out of the oven to cool off. If you take then out before they have completely flattened there will be some "dents" in the finished product.

The Pros:
It's a fun activity for those that enjoy arts and crafts. My daughter and I had a blast and even Dad and Grandma came to watch the fun as we saw the shrink dinks curl up in the oven, shrink and then flatten out. The fun continued after that when we made jewelry; which, my daughter loves to now wear and show off what she made.

The Cons:
It is true there really is not alot of images that come with this kit. I believe it was 5-6 pages. The images that do come with it are cute and my daughter had a great time coloring the images, as I did as well having joined in the fun with her.
The coloring pencils that come with this kit leave alot to be desired. They are short to begin with and makes it very interesting if the point breaks and you need to sharpen the pencil. There are so few colors. We got creative and actually blended colors to get more variation, but given the type of colored pencil that comes with the kit and product medium, it can be a challenge. Due to so few coloring images and the coloring pencils, I have rated this product 4 stars.

Amazing for the horse lover . This is so much fun and it comes with alot of stuff!!! It even comes with its own hole punch:D Get it get it get it!!

What a let down . My daughter opened this gift for Christmas only to find that it did not include one sheet of shrinky dink material...shrinky dud!!! Purchase with caution. So much for Christmas shopping early, can't return it now!

shrinky dinks are back! . I loved Shrinky Dinks as a kid. This was a great updated version with horses that could be made into jewelry. Fun gift for a 7 or 8 year old girl.

Shrinkydinks . Brings back happy memories! My girls were thrilled with their shrinkydinks! This particular kit was great for horse lovers. Just don't make the mistake of trying to uncurl one in the oven. My husband did and a piece flicked off into the oven. We can't find the piece and it stinks everytime I use the oven. Do this activity when you can open the windows in the spring and fall!

Shrinky Dinks . I remember Shrinky Dinks were huge when I was little. The fact that they are still around and great fun for kids is nice. My six-year old cannot get enough of the coloring and shrinking of these crafty little toys. It's a fun way to create without a huge mess. I recommend Shrinky Dinks for kids of all ages!

So much fun! . My daughter has had so much fun with this! She has really enjoyed making the necklaces, rings, and change purse. Watching the shrinky dinks in the oven is really entertaining and the charms are adorable. We love it!

A Definite Hit! . I purchased one of these for each of my two granddaughters for Christmas and you'd have thought I gave them the world! I did give them a carrying bag for the pieces which was a good thing because once the tea set is out of the box, there is no where to put them. The only downside is, of course, the breakability of them since they are porcelain. But that's nothing you shouldn't realize before purchasing. The girls were so excited to individualize their own sets! They were even serving us right out of the box without even having to paint them. Great toy for nurturing creativity. I would definitely recommend this tea set to anyone!

Great alternative to the make-and-take pottery stores. . I bought this for my eight-year-old daughter who loves crafts, especially painting pottery. She is always begging me to go to the local shop where you: don't get any assistance, pay a lot of money and wait a week for your finished kiln-fired mug. I was pleasantly surprised to see how many pieces come with the set and how easy it is to paint with relatively little mess. There is no baking or heating involved either. I think it is priced well and a nice, creative project.

All around pleased . This is a very sweet set, it even came with a little vase and flowers for it. My daughter is enjoying painting it and we will have a very cute set soon! Quick shipping and over all I am satisfied.
