Great Item! . My daughter has some problems with fine motor and I think this is great for her, it would be very hard for her to make a friendship bracelet the old fashion way, she would have a hard time keepting the strings in order but the "wheels" that come with this kit make it so easy for her and I'm sure the crisscross action that she does with the strings help with her cordination. The only problem I have noticed is the colors on the wheels is starting to wear off after she has made only 2 bracelets.

Not that great. . This product was less than what I expected. As far as craft kits go, this one is cheaply made and difficult to use. My 13 yr old daughter, who is pretty "crafty", could not make one decent-looking bracelet with this kit. Save your money and go to your local craft store to find something better.

Very fun to make at any age . I am 29 years old and wanted to create friendship bracelets for my friends as a Christmas gift. These were super popular when I was in grade school so I thought the idea would be nostalgic and heartfelt. My friends LOVED the bracelets I made and are wearing them everyday. I had a blast making them and once you figure out the pattern on the wheel, they are super easy to make. Now trying to figure it out the first time is a little tough but if an 8 year old can figure it out then adults should be able to as well. I bought a 2nd kit with new patterns and am still making them!

Easy to make pottery but not too strong. . This pottery wheel is a lot of fun for my 11 year old daughter. The first time we use it, she did not add enough water to the clay, so the machine labored quite a bit. It then shut off to cool for about 10 minutes. It came back on after that. She now kneads more water into her clay before putting it on the wheel so the machine does not labor too much. She really likes it. You can purchase refill packs of the clay as well. The wheel moves at one speed that is fairly slow. The only real downside that I can see is that it is a bit loud. But it is not a nuisance to us.

Wheel didn't work . I bought this for my granddaughter for her birthday and was very disappointed that it didn't work. We put in new batteries and the wheel would turn for a a minute or two at a time and then stop. We gave up after about 10 minutes and put it back in the box.

Pleasantly surprised! . I didn't have much hope for a pottery wheel/kit in this price range. But my daughter wanted one so I decided to take a chance on it. I must say, it works better than I expected. The wheel spins at a good pace and is controlled by a foot pedal that is easy to operate by my 8-year old. The instruction booklet is very thorough and has tips for making operation easy. The clay does slip off the wheel at times but if you follow the advice in the book and dry off both the wheel and the clay, it seems to work better. The only frustration is in making anything more involved than a small, shallow dish or "pinch pot". I hope with more practice she/we will be able to make the taller vase that's on the box.

Love The Beads . The beads are great. My daughter got them for her tenth birthday and started making bracelets right away. The only downfall was the organizer wasn't truly an organizer. They were flimsy plastic containters taped together and hard to get apart without completely messing up all the beads. My daughter and I were extrememly frustrated trying to open the packages.

Really fun project for the young... and maybe the old too! . This was a fun project for me and my 6 year old granddaughter. We spent, maybe an hour, by the time we opened the package, put it together and painted it. We both enjoyed putting the project together but mostly it was just a neat time to do something like this together, talk and goof off (There might be a little bit of the paint still on the kitchen table but grandma is very loving and tolerant of us!). This project and the birdhouse were the granddaughter's favorites. It's hard to find this much fun for the price.

Needs better instructions . I'm an adult, and I got this for myself because I wanted a relatively inexpensive loom to fiddle with, to see if I could actually make something useful from this "toy". I figured since this was a toy, it would be easier. Well, having tinkered with the thing for about ten minutes now, my initial impression is that there is no way a 7 year old could figure out how to work this thing by themselves. The directions are perplexing to say the least. There are two booklets; one of them is supposed to be a quick start guide and the other a book of projects. For the rainbow scarf, I found you have to refer back and forth (at least to start) to both booklets. It felt like someone showing you what a bike was, the pieces of it, and then you were expected to just get on and peddle yourself off into the sunset. Not so much.

I feel like this loom COULD be easy to use, and that they PROBABLY did do all the hard work already getting it so it's ready to go when you receive it, but the instructions and illustrations are so confusing that I'm just not so sure anymore. I was more certain of its ease before the directions than after, and I think that says something. For example, the extra shuttle that's in the loom, is that supposed to be there? Do I need to take it out? They don't mention this in the booklets. The section on re-threading is so unintuitive that I've decided to read it again tomorrow when I've had some coffee and a night's rest. I mean, this really shouldn't be rocket science.

Overall, I've given this thing 4 stars because I think it WILL be easy to use once I figure out how to do it (on the Internet, not through the materials they've provided), and because it seems to be built sturdy (sturdily?). I'm sure I will get hours of enjoyment out of it and hopefully a completed, usable product; however, all this is wishful thinking in light of the fact that for now I simply cannot figure out if I'm even using this "toy" correctly at all.

By the way, this is the Easy Weaver A, not B. The booklets refer to both, and the box does not seem to mention the model.

HARRISVILLE LOOM ..... IS NOT THE BEST LOOM DEAL !! . After reading the rather weak Amazon reviews for this Harrisville loom I still did ( reluctantly ) order this loom from Amazon (for grandaughter 11th birthday ).
Shortly thereafter I discovered a superior quality loom from another source, and for less money. I cancelled my Amazon order!
The loom I purchased, is called "Little Quick Weaver", and is a mom and pop product from Michigan.
If you do an internet search, or an E-Bay search, using the "Little Quick Weaver" name, you will find where/how to purchase one.
I tried to provide the ordering/purchase specifics here, but Amazon removed that review.

Toy? or Mess! . I purchased the Easy Weaver A used for myself. Expecting it to be ready for weaving, the entire loom was a tangled mess. After untangling all the yarn and figuring out how to get it going took most of a day. It was a good thing that it was not purchased for a child. I was looking for something simple to learn weaving with and thought I would buy used.

When it arrived, I was very disappointed. I believe that the seller had misrepresented the item by not declaring that someone had cut the yarn at the base creating the mess. And it was definitely a mess.

Next time I will spend the extra to buy new.

Great fun made quick . I bought these for my two girls (8 and 11). They always start friendship bracelets but quickly loose interest. My 8 YO always had trouble keeping track of the strings. This product is great!! They can finish a project quickly and it keeps track of your strings for you. Once you get used to the tension you need to put on the strings to get the effect you want it is very easy to produce quality bracelets. They needed help "loading" the wheel, but after a few rows/rounds even my 8 YO was doing it like a pro. You make the bracelet by moving strings from one slit to another. They are color coded to help you out, but like I said, once you get started, it is very simple. My one word of advice for the round one is figure a way to mark the next string you need to move BEFORE you put it aside. We wrapped it around a couple slits. On the square one we just made sure to always finish a row. If you don't mark it, it is very hard to figure out where to start back up.

I highly recommend this product!!

Good for beginners . The strings kinda get in the way but it's way easier to use this than to make a friendship bracelet on your own. Good beginner tool.

one (easily fixed) flaw . As you all said, it's pretty delicate when it comes to structural soundness. But every soldier has his weapons, and armed with this knowledge, I warmed my hot glue gun for battle. Just spread on a thin layer on the bottom edges, stick, and.. I'd say you might even be able to take it outside on a breezy summer's day.

In the hopes that our pleas will be heard, I'll echo the sentiment that it would be great to learn about the science underlying this magic.

(Also, try sprinkling a couple of drops onto the mountain as you pour the liquid. I don't think you'll regret it.)

Use a hot glue gun! . My 4yr. old picked this out at the Science Center and it really is cool...have to agree, it does end up looking just like the picture on the box, so no disappointment there! She had fun running back to it the first evening and it was the first thing she ran to the next morning. The trick is a hot glue gun!!! Luckily my husband had the bright idea to glue each piece into the tray b/c as other reviews stated the 'crystals' are fragile. I would also have liked a scientific explanation included though-- my only drawback.

This could be so neat.... . My kids (4 and 6) were so looking forward to this. And yes it does "grow" but it is almost near impossible to make the trees and "grass" stand up in their designated grooves on the tray. The grooves don't hold this stuff in place, not even with tape.

Now that said, if you can get over the look of disappointment on your children's faces everytime the tree falls over, this product really does work. The blossoms and the snow are pretty amazing to see transform.

Campy Taiwanese fun! . It works - in just one day! Though the yellow / green plants don't end up looking like the picture on the box, the mountain and the trees really do! We took a photo every hour for extra fun. My only complaint is that there's nothing in the directions which tells you what is actually going on - just an afterthought assurance that it's non-toxic.

More like powder garden . Yes, it was cool to watch the "crystals" form. They were like powder puffs, and it was nearly impossible to make the different pieces of paper stand in the plastic container. When it was fully formed it was extremly fragile crumbling to the touch. Not appropriate for children who want to touch everything.

Poorly designed - stick with ToySmith . We had a lot of lucky with the Christmas tree from ToySmith and my daughter enjoyed it, so while doing some last minute Christmas shopping I picked this up. It was VERY difficult to get any of the pieces to stay in place, and I LOVE to put things together. Even my husband had problems getting anything to stay in place. We finally resorted to using scissors to get things to be the correct size. The tray is SUPER flimsy (not at all like the hard plastic from the ToySmith Christmas tree), the grass strips are way to long, the base of the trees is too wide to fit in the circle, the slots in the two tree pieces are cut wide so they collapse and do not stay together, the mountain does not fit the couture of the hole provided no matter how you fold it, troughs for the liquid are too shallow, and the whole tray bows so even on our flat countertop the pieces fall over. We put it together (after about 30 minute of trimming and manipulating) on the counter before bed, poured the liquid in the best we could, and went to bed, when I woke up both of the trees had fallen over. ARGG! The flip side is that it did grow, but the snow is not on the top of the mountain (only the lower 2/3), which does not make sense and the middle part of the garden did not grow at all even though I made sure all the piece had adequate liquid. I think I will stick with the ToySmith version. The tray is hard plastic, and the is a perfect x cut in it to put the tree in so it stay. That product can be easily moved - not true of this one. It is headed for the trash. :(

Cons Review

Fun every time . I remember this product from my childhood, and now I can share it with my own children. My 4yr old son was amazed when his "magic" words worked and grew the crystal garden. I've never seen him happier.
I set up the cardboard laced with the crystal growing chemicals, then he said magic words to the "special" water that comes with the kit, and watered the garden. Within an hour or so, you can begin to see very small crystals growing, and by 10hrs it is pretty much done. (and it looks almost like the picture on the box, how often does THAT happen?)
I wish it contained an explaination of the crystals and how/why they grow. But for little kids that believe in the "magic" of it... what more can you ask for?
It is VERY delicate... pretty much a powdery crystal. So if you touch it, or try to move the tray its on, you may end up with a pretty pile of multi colored powder on your floor. It is non toxic.

Magic garden . The concept is cool but the setup is not the easiest. The landscape items don't stand very well on their own -- we used toothpicks to stabilize the pieces of cardboard. Within a few hours, we had crystals forming. It only took one bump to dismantle the whole thing.

Magic Garden is Magic! . I received my first garden as a gift and my grandson loved it. Watching it grow was facinating and gave him insight into how the crystals form and develop. It generated a million questions about the entire process! This order is for my other 8 year old grandson.

I'm not exactly a kid but I like it anyway . I'm actually a senior citizen and I really like this little loom. It's well-built (very sturdy) and as long as I use yarn I can see it just fine, although my eyes are not the best these days. Tiny thread and needles are a thing of the past for me.

The needle they include is great. Has a great big eye so it's easy to thread, even for me. None of my old ones are quite as good, and I wonder where I could get some more like it because I worry about losing it.

The only thing I would find fault with is that to me it needs something under it to keep my knees from going through it. I'm not sure how others mamage, but I cut the box that it came in down some and it is (of course) a perfect fit. Lifts right up and even out to get to the underside if I need to, and no more knees poking through! So my advice is "Don't throw away the box."

Overall, I think it's a very good hobby for almost anybody.

Great loom for my 7 year-old and my entire family! . We love this loom! My daughter is a bright 7 year-old. She sits for 40 minutes or more and weaves various bits of yarn leftover from my projects. The loom teaches focus, concentration, attention to detail and offers short-term gratification because the kids can see their finished product evolving quickly. Love it -- highly recommend this for Christmas for any boy or girl! This would be a good method for getting boys interested in the fiber arts. . . great stimulating brain candy!!!

lap loom . My 8 year old daughter and I love this loom! The instructions are easy to follow. The wool yarn included has such rich colors and wonderful feel to it. I'm going to get another one. Harrisville does it again with superb quality.

Great loom - durable and fun! . We took this on our vacation for our 9-year-old daughter to work on in the car. It kept her busy for quite a while! It's pretty large, but does fit on your child's lap. It's a good value too. I would have paid a little more if it had included a little more yarn. Maybe they could sell an accessory kit with more yarn and patterns. But overall, a good toy.

Fun educational & sturdy . I made gifts of pet portraits with this loom on my lap during TV commercials that now hang on my friends' walls. It's comfortable to use and easy to stash out of the way when not in use. I bought the "Wonder Wand," [...], too, and that makes things go lots faster. Larger projects would of course require something different; but, I don't know that I would consider this a "toy" any longer as you can be as intricate with different materials as your imagination will allow. Fun & easy!

yarn is a little cheap . my daughter loves the loom only problem is the yarn breaks VERY easily...and not all the tools suggested to use are included in kit

Very Pleased with this Loom . This loom is not too big or too small-just the right size for travel or just staying at home and weaving. The tools come with it and make life a lot easier while weaving. Starter yarn colors are available in the package which means you don't have to run out to the craft supply store and buy yarn right away unless you don't like the yarn provided.
The information booklet is handy, only because I already know how to weave-but for beginners I would suggest they add photos of real weavings to enhance the instructions. I am very pleased with this company.

Nicely made loom! . I have experience using table, laptop, and back-strap looms. When it came time to purchase a starter loom for my 10 year old granddaughter, I chose this one and was not disappointed. It is quite sturdy and well made with smooth wooden surfaces. The plastic parts seem well made and well attached. Directions are easy, straight forward, and well illustrated. The included yarn is of a nice quality. This is a well made entry level loom!

Great for honing fine motor skills . My oldest son asked for a loom for Christmas, so I researched them and found this one - MADE in the USA!!! It is well made, has clear instructions and is easy to use (my son knows nothing about using a loom and figured it out pretty quickly). It makes him focus and sit still, which is not always easy for him to do but so far so good. My husband and I have also been picking it up and doing a few rows here and there. It is actually quite relaxing.

The box was empty missing EVERYTHING but the loom . I got this as a gift for my granddaughter for xmas. She was so exited to try it out, and when she oppened the kit, all the accessories were missing. Very disspointing. I was hoping to be able to contact amazon to see they can just send me the missing parts or a replacement. I am ultimately mailing back and empty box. I know that Amazon is very great about their returns but not very easy to get in touch with for this unique situation. I have decided to just return it all together and NOT try for another. Very dissapointed.

So much fun! . This is a wonderful kit for doing drawing art. I love how it is like paint by number only you use colored pencils instead. It's very easy to do and there is no mess to clean up. It's also easy to make it look really good, like professional artwork. Just follow the simple instructions and you'll have a beautiful picture in no time. So much fun and relaxing.

Not happy with this product . This is not your typical color by number set. The numbers are not on the picture, there is a seperate booklet you have to follow. The pencils are not numbered, you have to look at the box. Yes there are 24 pencils, but 2 sets which leaves you with 12 colors. And the colors!! The flower is supposed to be beige but the pencil is yellow. There is no red, it is an orange. Misleading, frustrating and a waste of money. Don't buy this one.

Dimensions /Paintworks/Pencil by Number . I orderered this last summer and really enjoued doing it, I like the light print-out of it as you can cover all the lines in it. My friends thinks I am now an artest, and not telling them any difeerent lol, it has been fun, now ordering anotheer one diff. of course. I realy love it. I'm disabled and it helps to do things like this besides taking care of my guinapigs. FIVE stars to it.

Fun and relaxing activity.... . It's hard to get the finished product to look like the picture with only the pencil colors given. Even using shading techniques, the result is a bit amateur but it's a fun activity anyway. Great way to relax and do something creative!

So popular my daughter wants new copies . I bought this book and it's companion (Extreme Dot to Dot Animals) for my daughter this year for Christmas. It's now February, and she's asking me to buy her a new copy of the same books. I was surprised to hear her ask for the same book instead of a new one -- I knew she was taking them to afterschool every day to work on, but it turns out they've been so popular with all the other kids that she's shared out the pages with her friends, and wants a new copy so she can do the pages she didn't get the first time around.

Extreme Dot to Dot . Our 10 year old loves this Dot to Dot book. It is definitely challenging! When she first opened the book, she was quite shocked to see how many dots were on each page but as soon as she started one, she couldn't put it down. Great item!!! Highly recommended!!

Got it for my 11 yr old... . ...and it was all I could do to ONLY do one of his pages...I wanted to do more but I DID buy it for him...so I ordered two more (different issues). Was a great gift for my 60ish father...a change in pace from word finds, puzzle books, etc.

Challenging fun and educational! . I bought this as a Christmas present for my 10 year old. He absolutely loves it. He'll squeeze in a few minutes whenever he can (before bed, waiting to go to school). He'll also work on it in my office while I'm at the computer so he can chat with me (something he can't do while reading). For now at least, he'd rather work on this than play with LEGOs or read, which had been his favorite activities. He is learning about explorers in school, so he really likes trying to guess what the picture is as he works on it. And he's been able to figure out many of the individual people. I'll definitely order a couple more of these for him.

So cool! . I got this for my son's 5th birthday, I think--or maybe it was for Christmas shortly thereafter. He's quite an advanced kid but has trouble finding things. That's why I got this--to help him learn to search. It was a bit too much at first (which I expected). But once he got the hang of searching, he loved it!

Amazing puzzles! . We bought this puzzle book for our 13 year old and he loves it! It is absolutely amazing to see a page full of numbers and watch it take form. There are so many dots that you generally have no clue what the picture could be until you are well into it! So much fun, even adults get sucked into wanting to try one! We also bought different versions for our 7 and 11 year olds.

9 year old son loves these extreme dot to dots! . There are so many dots per page! Each one creates a very detailed picture. My son loves to take in the car and work on while waiting for his sister's dance class to get out. He just finished one that was 1476 dots!
