Great Memory Makers . Get the teacher pack even if you're not a teacher--you get 50 sheets, more than enough for mistakes and to do the project more than one time. We use the Crayola washable markers as allowed rather than the markers included. This way we have a larger color selection plus a finer tip. We use these for New Year's Eve. We make family plates to commemorate the new year. Each kid makes 2 on any design and then we date them w/new year. for littlest one, i trace his hands and he "colors" over them.
Then you ship them back to the company to be turned into melamine plates. There is a shipping charge, but overall still an inexpensive, long lasting, usable, creative project. Love getting the finished plates back from company--it's like getting presents in the mail! dishwasher safe. do NOT microwave the plates! It's fun to use these plates again and again. and the kids love seeing their artwork at meals. great keepsake!!

individual kit vs. teacher kit . As I was shopping for this I couldn't find the information on pricing of plates and shipping. I am sharing what I found and hope it will help others :-)
I purchased the individual kit last year~2009~ for my son (approx $12). He enjoyed making it and still enjoys eating off of it! I paid an extra $3 for shipping and handling.
This year I had 2 sons to make plates so I went with the teacher kit. I paid $10 for the kit and will have to pay $8 per plate and $10 shipping for the entire order for a total of $36 for 2 plates.
I made these as a child so they bring back wonderful memories! Just wish they were a little less money...but will probably continue to buy them so my sons will have them when they grow up.

hidden fees but plates are nice... . Turned out great. I have three children, each one was great. There are hidden fees! watch out for the hidden fees. I would not have ordered it had I known how much extra it would cost for processing and shipping... I will not order again from them but they are nice plates.

Kids love it! . I bought this kit and had my kids and my nieces and nephews all color several sheets of paper each (comes with LOTS). I told them it was going to be sent in to a coloring contest and had them pick out their 2 favorite pictures. I ordered them 2 plates each as Christmas gifts and they were all so excited and surprised when they got them. This is good for all ages (mine were 2-8 years), younger ones can do handprints. The pictures have to be sent in together for processing, box provided, so this kit is best if you have several children participating. Plates came quicker than I thought and they are super durable, my 1 yr old throws them all the time, no breaks. They have become my kids' favorite plates.
Great value set . I purchased the Teacher Make A Plate because with three children, this turned out to be an overall better value than purchasing three individual sets. There are tons of papers so you don't have to worry about making a mistake - just start over.
Nice for memories but $$$ and product/process sure could be better... . We ordered the teacher pack so the kids could have plenty of practice runs before made a set for our home.
The instructions we received did mention that we should take care to avoid smearing or smudges on the artwork. We did. There were no smudges on the papers that we sent in but when the plates arrived most of them had at least one dark smudge on the plate face.
For what we ended up paying in total, I'm a bit disappointed in that.I can understand paying to ship the "artwork" to the company but I did NOT realize that we wouldn't get our plates until we gave them a credit card number and paid another $15 of shipping charges.
I don't understand why the company does not mention this practice up-front or build that cost into the per-plate cost (which I thought was the case).The concept is great but I don't know if we'll do this again.

PRICELESS MEMORY . MY FAMILY AND I HAVE MADE THESE PLATES FOR YEARS. I CANT WAIT TO MAKE THEM WITH MY GRANDCHILDREN. EVERYONE IN OUR FAMILY HAS THEIR OWN SPECIAL PLATES FOR CHRISTMAS AND THANKSGIVING.

Great project . We do a few of these each year. It is a fun project and the kids love getting their finished product!
make a plate . This is fantastic fun for kids and adults! My 2 1/2 year old daughter, myself, and my husband really enjoyed this activity. It's a wonderful way to create either a memorable piece of art or a keepsake item (we traced my daughter's hand and a foot and dated it). It's also a great way to allow your child to create a work of art that can be preserved for many years!
Cons Review
Replaces the frig . Perfect not only for saving the great works of art, but they are useful as well. When my grandkids graduated to plates and utensils, they were given the plates their parents had made. They, and their parents, were so delighted when I gave these kits as gifts. They keep asking for more!
