Great in theory tough in practice . Cute idea-- has potential, but definitely needs some improvement. Biggest problem was the whole cake press thing. Cake moulds hard to press in, wheel very difficult to turn (even for adults!). Best feature is the cupcake press. Very tough for my 4 yr old to use independently.

Great Fun !!! . My daughter just turned 6, and we love playing pastry shop with this toy. Although I waited until it was on sale, I would now recommend it even at full price.
The cake presses don't do much, but it's ok once you figure out which is a press and which is an extruder.
The molds around the unit for cherries, flowers, etc. are great for decorating.
With just a little bit of creativity and imagination, it's simple too use the molds supplied to create alot of fun.
Unlike other reviewers, I found clean up is very easy.
Remember this is play-doh, it will never come out like a real frosted wedding cake.

Too difficult for 3-4 year olds . My daughter got this product for her last birthday. She actually would probably rate this product higher than I do because she does enjoy playing with it. The problem is that she cannot do any of the tools by herself. It is really hard to press and really hard to crank. The point of children's toys is that they get the chance to play, create, and manipulate. She needed me to do everything. Great idea but terrible design. A number of people have mentioned that the toy is almost impossible for 3 year olds to use and I have to agree. Additionally, the toy does not fit back in the box.

Keeps Kids Entertained . We recieved this as a birthday gift for my 4-year-old. I have seen the reviews that bemoan the fact that the product is too complicated for the target audicence, and I understand that--to make something that looks like the picture on the front would be way too hard for the average 3-6 year old. And my 4-year-old certainly doesn't use the product exactly as designed; her playdough "cakes" aren't much like the picture. But I have to say that she will play with this toy unassisted for almost an hour. Her 2-year-old little brother will sit with her for at least 30 minutes while she makes him playdough "worms" (with the "icing" tool) to collect into playdough containers. My daughter's 4-year-old friend played with her for 30+ minutes making sort-of-cakes. If you take the time to show your child how to do most of the basics and then don't worry about the "cakes" looking like the examples, I think you will get more than your money's worth out of this toy. A great gift and we would not hesitate to give it as a gift ourselves.
Not up to par for a Playdoh product . I bought this for my 3 yr. old granddaughter who loves playing with playdoh. She was so excited to start making little cupcakes and decorating cakes. The directions are awful and the cakes are very hard to decorate with the molds provided unless you are super strong which she is not. She always has to have an adult help her press the molds. The little areas where you make the decorations are very hard to get out after you've pressed them in. By the time you get one out, it is destroyed. Some of the additional pieces to the set are useless. Save your money. This set needs a lot of improvement. It's not worth the price.
Difficult for young hands putzy and hard to clean . The set is difficult for little hands to work properly (at least the way it's designed) and it makes for a somewhat difficult clean up. Playdoh gets stuck in all sorts of little crannies on the cake making machine and you inevitably end up with a mixed up mess of colors as you're putting it away--a great design from Playdoh's standpoint, though. You'd constantly be buying fresh Playdoh from them!
Very disappointed . My 4 year old loves play doh and was very excited to receive this as a Christmas gift. Unfortunately, it is too difficult for her to use. I have to squeeze the frosting tool for her, which frustrates her because she likes to be independent. It is also difficult to press down the cake stamping tool. She can only do it with my assistance. I tried to let her play it by herself while I was making dinner, but she was unable to really create a cake without me. I thought her 6 year brother could help her but they got so frustrated, they decided to put the toy away and watch me cook rather than continue to play with it! I think we will stick to our simple cookie cutters and rolling tools. This toy is going to "disappear" from our house soon!One other annoying feature is that it is impossible to put the toy back into the box without taking it apart. Even after it is apart, I can't get the pieces in. Why can't toy companies create useful boxes???
Play doh is always a winner . My four year old loves this toy. No matter what is going on, he can sit down with Play-doh and it calms him down and he is fascinated with all the creations. A winner!
Cons Review
Best play-doh accessoy! . I was so surprised to see so many negative reviews of this product, I felt compelled to write my own. We love this Playdoh toy! We've owned many different activity sets for Play-doh and this is one we come back to again and again. My 2 and 4 year old children (girl and boy) enjoy it most, but my 6 year old likes it as well and even I like to join in. The cake maker makes impressive looking little treats, has a variety of neat and unique features (like a lever that extrudes candles on your cupcake and cute little recipe card). My favorite feasture of the set is that you can use several different colors in different ways (as frosting, as cake batter, as candles) without the colors mixing together- my personal pet peeve! I did have to read the directions for this set before the first use (not usually necessary for Play-doh toys!) but after that it was easy to use and understand, and even my 2 year old can operate it. Highly recommend this set!
Don't waste your time . Got this for my girls for xmas. It arrived so stuffed in the box that the device used to push down and design the top was tweaked and didn't work right. We got already to play it and we couldn't. My daughter was really disappointed. We then took it back and found another. The two remaining boxes that the store had were opened (probably from being stuffed in the box). We managed to assemble a working product from the two opened boxes and took it home. When we finally did start to play with it it was lame. The rotating piece that is used to stamp on the top of the cake was huge and didn't work that great. It also had way too many little nooks where play-doh pieces got trapped in. There wasn't much to the cake design. Instead of a cake made of play-doh you end up with plastic pieces that have play-doh on them. All the play-doh got mixed together on the first use and I'm definitely taking it back.
