Elmo helps your child identify shapes and then counts them as your child makes them. In mode 2, Elmo prompts your child to find various shapes. Together, they'll have lots of fun creating Play-Doh triangles, circles and more.

3-year-old doesn't seem thrilled . I got this for my 3-year-old son for Christmas. He also got a regular playdoh fun factory and his older brother got the movie popping snacks set. He really prefers the other two sets. Sure, Elmo talks to him, but the shapes aren't flat on both sides, so it's not like they're usable for other things. You're just supposed to put them in spots on a paper. I'm not saying it's not good for anyone, but he really isn't that happy with it.

Play-Doh Elmo Shape and Spin Playset Reviews
Elmo and Play Doh . This toy set was a gift for a 2-year old. It's too soon for me to say how durable the toy is, but the combination of talking Elmo and Play-doh is a pre-schooler's dream come true and makes a fun, educational toy.

Play-Doh Elmo Shape and Spin Playset Opinions
Save your money . The toy is a great idea in theory, but it has several flaws in the design.
Pros:
Interchangeable impression discs with Elmo, Big Bird, and Cookie Monster's faces
Comes with three small containers of Play Doh
Recognizable shapes as well as others such as a pentagon, hexagon, and octagon.
Elmo talks when you press the button
A play mat with shapes for matching
Entertained my daughter
Cons:
Doesn't cut shapes well and Elmo's hands are hard to press all the way down
The release button (with an imprint of Dorothy the fish) doesn't always line up with the rotating shapes which don't lock into place well
No place to store the interchangeable discs
Elmo bust isn't firmly affixed to the base and tips over when pressing down the hands (This is the most annoying problem.)
Verdict:
Save your money and buy some shape cookie cutters to use with your Play-Doh.

Lots of fun but needs improvement . My 2-year-old son is a huge Elmo fan AND a huge Play-Doh fan. When I saw that this one was on sale for only $5.49, I jumped on it. So far, can't tell how much he's been learning about shapes and counting, but for sure he has lots of fun with it.
But for mom's side, this thing needs some improvement.
1. There is no place to store the extra stampers. Moms know that means those will be scattered around the house sooner or later, or simply go missing.
2. When you press Elmo's hands down to cut the shapes, it does not cut off clean. So kids got sort of frustrated that they can't get the shape off nicely.
3.I tried to clean the thing each time after use. But always found out later there is tiny bits of play-doh left inside that you can't reach. When it dries, it just snows down if you shake the toy a little bit.
Anyways, by all means, if your kids love Elmo and Play-Doh, and you can find a good deal for this, still go for it. They'll love it!

Cons Review
Lame and Annoying . I don't write many reviews, but I dislike this toy so much I feel I have to. Theoretically, Elmo tells your little one which shape to make and they put in some Play-Doh, press down, and get the shape. Even as an adult, I find it nearly impossible to put the right amount of dough in to get anything that resembles a triangle or square instead of a blob. Plus, there's a circle imprinted on ALL the shapes just to make absolutely sure your kid gets totally confused and never learns what a triangle is. Lastly, it just doesn't work. Half the time Elmo chirps "Triangle!" when you've made a square. The only reason I gave it 3 stars for durability is that it hasn't broken yet (sadly) but, of course, we don't play with it much.
Not as fun as I had hoped . We gave this to my 2 year old for Christmas because she loves Elmo, and she has just learned most of her shapes. I was so excited about the toy but it is a bit of a disappointment to me. I got it for under $6 on Amazon the week before Christmas, so the price makes it less disappointing!
Pros:
*In mode 1 for younger kids, Elmo tells what shape is in front of him. He says encouraging things when his arms are pressed down.
*Mode 2 is pretty good for older kids. Elmo says what shape he wants made and says "oops that's a..." if the wrong one is made.
Cons:
*The smaller play doh shapes are hard to distinguish because there is a large cylinder/circle on the top of each one. It is put on there by the bottom of the mold.
*Sometimes the play doh is hard to get out of the shape mold, and if you press the blue "eject" button more than once Elmo keeps counting even if you're pressing the button multiple times trying to get ONE shape out.
*It's hard to make the shape clean around the edges.
*The removable disks required to press the shapes with Elmo's hands can be easily lost -- and their function of stamping the play doh is pointless. It would be better is there was one stationary disk.
This is something that my daughter may grow to enjoy more. I think it has the potential to be educational, I just wish it didn't have those few issues. I don't think I would buy it again or for more than I paid for it. I bought it at regular price (under $20) for a friend's child and am going to swap it for something else to give him.

Very educational and fun . I got this Elmo Play-Doh toy for my son and he hasn't played with it too long so I'm not sure about the durability of it but one thing I didn't like was the three plastic disks that you can push into Elmo's hands to squish the playdoh. These are extremely easy to loose and once they're lost I'm not sure how my son will make the shapes. I absolutely love that Elmo counts each time you press the button down and when you rotate the disk of shapes, Elmo says the shape you land on. I was extremely disappointed with the "playmat" that came with it. It was advertised that children can make shapes and then place them in the outlined shapes on the playmat. The only problem is the playmat is just a piece of paper...not laminated or anything and it was SHOVED into the box all wrinkled. Useless. Other than that, this toy is great.
Great present . This is exactly what my nephew wanted, he was very happy with it and it made it in time to give it to him for christmas.
good playdoh product . I bought this for my 4 year old daughter. It's a cute toy, I mean it's a little tough when making the shapes, but it wasn't to hard that my daughter couldn't do it. I like that Elmo talks and I like that it has a learning value. Elmo talks about shapes. But my daughter hasn't really played with it anymore. But it was a steal at the price I got it for, so it's not a waste.
Great toy for my kids . This is a great toy that helps kids learn their shapes. My 2 year old loves it and my 5 year old likes it too. The 2 year old is learning shapes and the 5 year old is reinforcing his knowledge. So far this has been a lot of fun!
