Stick with playdoh . My kids were very excited for moon sand but it has only been pulled out twice and played with for less than 30 minutes each time. The sand just does not stick together like it shows and impossible for my two kids under 5 to do by themselves. I thought it would be a good alternative to playdoh but the only place I will allow it now is outside. It makes such a big mess and is just not worth it. I don't like the mess of playdoh either but it's not as bad as this moon sand. Unfortunately, not impressed.

Good but messy . This toy keeps my 3 year old occupied for a good 30 - 45minute stretch. It is a very messy toy. The sand gets everywhere and is impossible to clean up. I would only use it outside. Also it comes with three different color moonsands. They quickly got mixed into one dull purple after one day of playing.

What a Mess! . What a mess! This stuff is best used outside but then you still have the colored sand remnants to clean off the patio. Yuck, yuck, and more yuck. Also, I'm just not sure how you reuse this stuff. Play-doh is better. Pass on this.

Great buy! . We love our moon sand. It's pretty messy and quite an ordeal to get out and play with, but my daughter loves it and it has held up quite well. I definitely recommend.
Fun toy . I got the Moon sand for my 12 year old daughter for Christmas and she likes it a lot. I like that it is not as messy as playdough. the box it comes with makes it easier to clean up and the Moon sand stays fresh way longer than playdough. I would buy this product again.
Play in the sand in winter! . My five year old received this set for Christmas and has played with it much more than anything else so far. My eleven year old and I have had a lot of fun with it too! Initially I was worried about the mess, but we just put a plastic tablecloth on the table and shake it outside when we are done- easy cleanup! We store each color of sand in a ziploc bag, which helps keep things neat, especially as we mix more of our own colors. It is true that you can't really recreate many of the details pictured on the box because the colors mix together in the molds, but we have enjoyed making single colored layers and putting those together, so not a deal breaker for us.
Like it a lot! . Bought this for my almost four-year-old. It's not perfect, but I was surprised that the cupcakes (and cakes) turned out so well! The first time I pulled out one of the cakes that I had added pink "icing" to the edges of she was SOOO excited. The mixer is difficult to use (hard to turn) & obviously the moon dough is a little messier than other play doughs & will need to be replaced, but overall- totally worth it. I would just tell anyone that might have trouble making cute cakes to make sure to press in the dough really well so everything is stuck good & stable. They tap right out pretty easily!
The box is so misleading . Like many other toys these days it looks great on the box and gets the child all excited but when you actually try to make the items pictured on the box it's impossible. My daughter is 8yrs old and wanted this toy so bad but after opening it she was very disappointed it's impossible to make the cupcakes etc. look cute like pictured and the mixer is very cheap. I feel like i really wasted my money :/
Cons Review
Will trade for toys made out of lead . What a mess! Says it doesn't stick to anything, but it sure embeds itself in everything. Within 30 minutes, a large area was covered with extremely fine, extremely sticky, purple dust nano-particles. Not water soluble so don't think you are washing up. Ended up tossing out the moon sand, tossing out the table cloth, and power washing the children. We did try to salvage the plastic shape molds, but they were also covered with fine insoluble dust that washing has almost no effect, so I had to give up. Some moon sand fell on the deck (thank goodness we were outside on a picnic table). I swept it off but now it is forever part of the local ecosystem. It says it is "Non toxic", but I sure would not want to inhale any of it. I can see the future 'purple lung' class action law suits coming. Surely a weaponized version of this substance is in the works at a military base somewhere.
Two stars overall, rather than one, as the kids loved it. (They do love a mess).
Five stars for education value - for the parent who will need to research a diversity of cleaning techniques and the symptoms associated with future medical side effects.
Makes an excellent gift for the perfect-Martha-Stewart-with-the-pristine-house type that you don't like.

My 3 year old LOVES it!! . My daughter BEGGED for this for Christmas. It was the only thing she asked Santa for. I was able to find it on Amazon for 1/2 price and got it shipped through Amazon Prime. It arrived and I worried that my daughter wouldn't be able to figure it out. I was pleasantly surprised when we opened it up on Christmas morning. My experience as a preschool teacher had already taught me to kneed the moon sand myself before allowing her to play with it, I have found that this just helps the moon sand adhere to itself and makes it easier on kids who want to build things right away. It gets easier to mold the more you play with it! My 3 year old can make nearly perfect cakes and I find it very easy to mold them and get them to come out of the molds! We bought extra moon sand and this way she can make multiple cupcakes, cakes, and decorations. She really enjoys the mixer, which I will agree is cheaply made and is sometimes difficult to crank. Overall I really enjoy this set and our daughter LOVES it. We are planning on buying this set for a birthday gift in February.
