Glad I chose this one! . I bought this one so I could take it on a long flight and it really did the trick. The other ones are all small and the large kinds are too too bulky to travel with but this one was the perfect size and weight. I was worried about the quality but its been almost a year of abuse from 2 boys and it's still working fine :)

value for money . its a great educational toy to engage kids for hrs.my 2 yr old daughter enjoyed it on her long air travel

save your money . save your money, this toy is very cheaply made. The pen string is not near long enough and the swiper does not get it clean very well.

good fun but magnetic tip broke off . While on a flight a month ago, I watched an 18 month old happily using this sketcher, and got one for my granddaughter who is the same age. She and her older brother loved it! That is until the pen got stuck in the holder space the wrong direction, and then lost its magnetic tip while getting "unstuck"....not quite sturdy enough.

leaks . after 2 days it started leaking/oozing a white cream and where the white part vanished(what you write/draw on) it doesn't work anymore. needless to say I won't be getting this again and will not be recommending this to anyone. what a waste of money.

Doodle . Before buying this item I was more concerned about the size of the doodle. I was looking at a bigger doodle for my child. the product dimensions are misleading in the product information section. I liked the item even though its a smaller one than I thought. But I was little bit disappointment due to misleading information. I would have given all 5 stars to this if this is of my expected size.

Creative low-tech toy . We got my 3 yr. old this toy for Christmas. She loves it! She draws on it, then erases, and keeps repeating! It's really hard to find a toy that a child will love that doesn't take batteries in this day and age, which is what makes this toy so special. I'm a big fan of low-tech toys that encourage creativity and this one definitely fits that bill! The only thing I don't like about this sketch pad is that it doesn't hold the magnetic shapes securely. We have only had it for 2 weeks and two of the shapes are missing. I'm thinking about removing the other two shapes and putting them away because I'm afraid my infant is going to swallow them.

Good entertainment . The Doodle Sketch is a good toy for little hands that are beginning to draw. My only criticism is that the erasing mechanism can be too hard for little ones - as I have three of these for grandchildren I know that this is different for each toy. I still recommend it. The smaller version is good for travel and just as entertaining.

not bad but... . We bought this for our 27 month old for Christmas and she loves it. She had a smaller/travel/pocket version, so we suspected that a bigger one would be a hit. It feels very light and I wish it were a little sturdier/durable feeling for a toddler toy and I second the annoyance of the um-magnetic stamps that a previous poster has noted. It is hard for my toddler to get the "pencil" out of its holder on the side (which doesn't really bother me), but what does bother me is the design of the star. Rather than make it equal sided, it's a stylized star which means that it will only go in ONE way (otherwise, getting lost, misplaced, etc). That is VERY annoying and easily fixed by someone thinking about it from a kid's point of view.

Disappointed . This is a fun toy. However, the magnetic powder does not last very long. The drawings fade quickly. It doesn't mark like it should. We have a different brand which looks almost identical, that works a lot better.

My grandkids love it . I had one of these for my kids, and they loved it. Now, I've bought them for my grandkids, and they love them. They play with it for long periods. It's good for a broad range of ages. I bought one for my older grandson, but my one year old twin grandkids always wanted to play with it, so I bought ones for them, too. The only bad thing is you do have to be careful with the younger ones, because they tend to lean on it or step on it, and that can damage it somewhat, but all in all, it holds up pretty well even to that.

Cons Review

Disappointment . I was disappointed in the quality of this toy. Maybe I got a defective one, but the white surface "bubbles" up so you have to really press down with the pen to make contact with the magnet (and thus doodle). This frustrated my 2 year old son, since he is not coordinated enough to press down really hard with the pen. Also, the erase lever did not work well either because of the surface bubble. You have to press down on the white surface while you move the lever, otherwise the eraser does not make contact and it does not erase the drawing. We are planning to donate this to goodwill and get a Fisher Price doodler instead. I wish I had looked at one in the store before ordering on-line.

Love Doodle Pads . We bought this for my 3-year-old's birthday. He had a travel Doodle Pad and loved playing with it. He had played with this type of pad with the shapes to use as well as the pen and really liked it so I thought he would enjoy it. The Ohio Art one was less expensive than the others and although the shapes were not held in a tray/drawer I thought if he did not like it I had not spent $30 or $40 on it so that would be fine. Well, he LOVES this pad. The shapes stay pretty well in the holders as they are magnets but you have to keep a watch that they don't get lost. He likes making the letters of the alphabet on it or we draw them for him and he will trace or erase the drawing and try it himself. Sometimes he will want us to hold his hand to help him draw the letter or picture.
Pros: Great for over 3 to practice drawing skills.
Can teach shapes also.
Carry handle and not too large to travel with if wanted.
Less expensive than others.

Cons: Usually takes 2 or 3 passes to fully erase a drawing.
There is a small part on our pad that cannot be erased... some sort of broken area.
Small shapes can fall off the pad and get lost or put in smaller kids' mouth!

Overall, we love this Doodle Pad even with a small part that won't erase. Luckily the main artist of the family does not seem to mind this minor defect.

Cheap quality . I was very disappointed when I removed this product from the box. Very cheap feeling. The shape magnents don't stay in there spots. You are not getting a good deal it is junk. Highly recommend buying a Fisher Price on instead.

Hours of fun . We purchased this toy for our young granddaughter. She loves to draw constantly and on everything. The ability to draw, erase, draw erase has kept her busy and delighted for hours at at a time. It's also a perfect in the car toy, nothing to melt or stain. The toy is perfect lap sized, easy to use and seems quite durable. We are getting her one for her home as well for her birthday we are so pleased with the doodle sketch.

Broken upon arrival . I ordered this for my toddler to play with on the airplane. However, you can barely see the lines, and it won't erase the pathetic lines that are on it. I was counting on this, and the manufacturer and seller let me down.

Great for 2 weeks until it was dropped on a carpeted floor . My kids used this more or less daily for 2 weeks straight, as a car toy. The regular size Etch a Sketch was a bit too big to cram into my purse when we went to restaurants, so I purchased this one. It seemed like a good value until my kid dropped it (about 3 feet drop) unto a carpeted floor. One of the knobs popped off and because the plastic broke, I could not get it back on. Being able to control only one direction of etching gets old after about 20 seconds. We tried to superglue the part back on, but it still did not work. Off to the landfill. Too bad - if the manufacturer had just invested a few more pennies to make this more durable, it could have been a terrific travel toy. Would not recommend - stick with the larger size if you can.

Not made like they used to be . I bought 3 of these for gifts for my daughter, aged 7 and 2 granddaughters, aged 3&4. Everyone of them stopped working in less than 3 months. And, these things aren't cheap anymore, just cheaply made!

This toy barely works. . This etch-a sketch appeared to be similar to the one of my youth. The toy can not draw a picture. The nobs barely move to create lines, so that the picture as shown on the object could never be made with this toy. The grains simply become a dark gray shower across the board and nothing else. The toy was very disappointing. Since it was a gift for my grandson, it was difficult to take this toy and return it. I would not suggest purchasing it.

Kids Love Them . We purchased two for our kids for Christmas. The kids love them, but one of the two stopped working in less than two days. This is a classic toy and very fun to play with, but not very durable.

Exactly what it says it is. . Bought this for my 4 year old because he really wanted one. I bought the small one because I thought the large one would be too big for his lap. He played with it for ten minutes, now it's in the toy box. The toy is exactly as described.

Small version of the classic. Great toy! . I bought it for my daughter just before the release of Toy Story 3. It's not in the movie..., but it's a great toy! And the smaller size makes it perfect for taking along on trips and for older children. Loved it!

Fast shipping of well packed product, in brand-new condition bring your child their very own EAS in short order, and make Ohio Art the place to go for this wonderful toy. I for one am tired of buying from Amazon sellers who send damaged items, then blame the USPS for "rough handeling". They take no responsibility for their having sent you a damaged item, or packed it so poorly that normal bouncng during shipment damaged the item. Then there are those who blame YOU for substituting a broken item for their "perfect" item, and trying yo "SCAM" them. Do yourself a favor. Before buying from any Seller here at Amazon, read through their history. You will be enlightened by the buyer comments, and the sometimes violent, verbally abusive, rebuttals from less than stable Sellers.

Amazon does their best to take the sting out of this type of experience, but in the end, you've been hassled, insulted, and had to pack and send back the product, at your own expence, to a quite often, angry and abusive seller who hates you for giving them less than high marks for their unprofessional business dealings and attitude.
Avoid the problem. Buy from Ohio Art, they're great people to deal with! I bought my 4 year old Daughter both the travel, and regular Etch A Sketch models when her ancient Travel Etch A Sketch gave up the ghost, and expired. Ohio Art even offered to repair or replace the defunct EAS at NO CHARGE! I refused their kind offer because my Daughter's EAS had been a "hand me down". The new ones Took 72 hours to arrive, and they arrived in beautiful shape, wrapped in bubble-wrap and paper, then packed securly in a 200lb test corrugated cardboard box, and I paid less than what the sellers are asking for here.
Some Amazon sellers do not have a firm grasp of reality. Nor do they even consider that you might look to the manufacturer to see their pricing. I don't think some of them even look at the page where they've listed their items. E.G.: a page can show a NEW item for $[...] and an identicle, USED "Collectible" item for $[...], or $[...]. Amazing what the word "Collectible" can do in the mind of some Sellers!

Not too bad. . My 7 year old loves the original Etch A Sketch, so this seemed a logical choice as a Christmas present. He really did enjoy it. You can make better sketches and curves etc. It's already been dropped and drooled and chewed on by our 16 month old, so it's fairly durable so far. The knob seems a bit hard to push, but hopefully will loosen up with use. For some reason, the screen is less than half the size of a regular Etch a Sketch. While it's not the most popular toy this Christmas, he has played with it, and it's a middle of the road price. I'd still take the original over this, but this might make a nice birthday gift for a 4 -9 year old.

Much better than the old Etch-a-sketch . This great toy has all the fun of an etch a sketch, without the frustration. I always hated trying to make a diagonal line and never really enjoyed mine as a kid because it felt very limiting. This one still provides my son with hand to eye coordination and creativity, but is a lot more interesting than just making straight lines. He likes trying to write his name with it and it and does spend more time playing with it than I ever did mine.

So So Toy . I got this for a great price, so I cannot complain too much. But for some reason no one in my family thinks this is as much fun as a traditional Etch A Sketch. So far it has been used maybe twice.

Fun! . I think I may prefer this etch a sketch freestyle to the regular etch a sketch. There is more freedom in making pictures. I can even write in cursive. My boys, ages 3 & 4 received it for Christmas and have enjoyed it. I envision this being something we play with for a long time to come. I wish the screen was larger like the regular etch a sketch, but the size does make it nice for carrying it with you.

Simple easy quiet toy . This little magna-doodle is simple and easy for my son to use. We got it for him when he was about 18 months old and he loves scribbling on it. Even more, he loves taking the attached pen out of its little slot and putting it back again (over and over). I really like that the pen is attached so it doesn't get lost. The whole this is pretty small, so it fits easily into a diaper bag or purse. Some of the little flecks don't go away when you "erase" the board, but my son doesn't seem to mind and neither do we. It's pretty inexpensive and probably to be expected. All in all, my son likes to play with it and we love saving money on paper - plus, no pen/pencil/marker/crayon on the walls or furniture!

Gets played with a lot not the highest quality . My 2 and 4 year-olds will both pick this toy up and use it frequently. The plastic that the toy is made of feels brittle but it has held up under rigorous use. The writing on the screen "bleeds." It is not possible to draw detailed pictures on this particular Doodler. For a small, inexpensive item, this toy is the quality expected. The small size is nice for sticking in my purse and has convinced me that my kids will enjoy a bigger, more expensive Doodler at some point.

CHEAP . Had I known how cheap this product was really going to be I wouldn't have bought it. I got it for my 19 month old who loves to grab my pens and paper to draw thinking that he would love to have his own tablet to write on and I wouldn't have to worry about him having a pen. Although he loves to play with the pen on this toy, he very rarely uses it for it's intended us. when you write on the screen you can barely see what you wrote and it doesn't completely erase when you move the tab to erase the picture. Also alot smaller than I imagined it to be. The plastic frame seems to be flimsy and I often wonder how long until he breaks it.

A classic toy for all ages. . I loved these things as a kid, and I love them as an adult as well. For kids, this toy is great not only because it uses imagination for creating images, but also because it helps to improve hand-eye coordination. For adults, it is a nice little gadget to have around for stress relief and entertainment. Not a lot more needs to be said about the etch-a-sketch. It's fun!In case you don't actually know what this toy does, it is a drawing tool. Pictures can be drawn by twisting a pair of knobs, one which moves the "pen" vertically and one which moves it horizontally. It becomes a challenge to draw a picture without being able to lift the pen away from the image and set it down on another location. Images can be erased by turning the toy upside-down and shaking it a few times, making this a limitless toy which can be used for a long time.

There's nothing better than Etch-a-Sketch . Every human should have one of these. Ideally, every human should have one of these in every size and color available. It doesn't get any better than Etch-a-Sketch. I have several of them in my office, and they're wonderful for long meetings and work sessions.

OK- the bigger one is probably better . I bought this to play with with my 18 month old daughter because she loves the magnadoodle. I of course realize that this is something she'd need to grow into, but thought it would be fun for me in the meantime. The lines are very faint and don't erase very well. I remember the larger version from my childhood being a much better quality. It might just be the size that's the issue.

Fun active durable classic toy! . I have one of these sitting right next to me on my desk at work! I use it from time to time when I feel the need to doodle or just be silly. It's great for all ages and has always been a toy that's well-loved. I've given some to friends as well as mini-gifts for the times when nothing is being celebrated but they need something to cheer them up. I'd highly recommend it!

A Classic - Shrunk . This is the classic Etch A Sketch, but just a bit smaller. Amazon's listed it as an office toy. I'd have to agree with this bacause whenever you're stressed, you can challenge yourself to draw a picture of your boss. It's a really a great deal!

Ohio Art - Lack of Customer Service Care . We ordered multiple (35) Pocket Etch-a-Sketches for my son's birthday party as a 'favor' for his guests. We paid for 2-day Air Shipping to receive the toys well in advance of the party. We called the company after the toys should have arrived to determine their status as no delivery tracking # was attached to our online order. Upon calling Ohio Art during the business day, there was no answer at their customer service or business offices and when we called later, still during the business day, the receptionist indicated there was no one there to assist us at that time and provided no other support, or hope, for us. We have written an email to Ohio Art and still have not received a response. The Pocket Etch-a-Sketches are great toys as we have purchased them in the past for another chilren's party, but from a local company. My only concern for future consumers would be the timeliness and lack of response from Ohio Art.
(To end this story, we did go to a local toy store to purchase other great toys as party favors for our son's birthday party.)

Pocket Etch A Sketch . I used to keep extra crayons and coloring books on hand as gifts, and sometimes just stress relievers. The Pocket Etch A Sketch is one of my new items to keep on hand. Recently, I have given this fun item to more adults than children. It is a great stress reliever. I have purchased these as graduation gifts for two of my classmates for our upcoming leadership graduation class. A friend recently celebrated his 50th birthday. Since he is an architect, I labeled his gift "50+ Drafting/Drawing Tool." I am currently making a basket of retro type toys for a family. The basket has a few Pocket Etch A Sketches included. Pocket Etch A Sketch makes a good stocking stuffer too!

Cute retro gag gift! . My stepdad has a thing for etch-a-sketches, and when I saw this little one I had to buy it for him for Christmas! He loved it.

Lines are a little small . The lines are little thin, and it takes a lot of shaking to erase, and even then it doesn't erase completely. But it's fun and cheap.

The larger etch a sketch is better . It is difficult to see the lines and to erase the lines. While easy to carry around and nice for a small child, it really does not work as well as the large one.

Ohio Art Classic Etch A Sketch Pink . Not as durable as one that is over 20 years old. The first one failed after 9 months of use. The lines are lost in the borders and after awhile we were unable to get them bak to the screen.

Good Toy screen doesn't erase all the way . This is a classic toy! I was so excited to get this in the brown amazon.com box the other day! :) However, upon playing with it, er...testing it out, I discovered that the screen does not erase all the way, even when I shook and shook it. This is not amazon's fault, they just don't make toys the way they used to! Overall I am happy enough with it & think my daughter will be, too, but I am glad I didn't spend more than $10 on it!

Etch A Sketch Fun . I bought this as sort of a gag gift. We bought our boss an iPad for Christmas. I took the iPad out of it's box and replaced it with the Etch A Sketch. We had a lot of fun with it. Our boss is very artistic and she likes the Etch a Sketch (probably not as much as the iPad). She drew a poinsettia and wrote Merry Christmas on it. I think it will be something she will continue to play with.

Great for road trips... much more versatile than the original . Got this for my niece, but it's so much fun I wanted one myself. Such a nice improvement over the original design with the knobs... curves and diagonal lines are easy! Feels like using a mouse or pen to draw with. Also seems a bit lighter weight than the original.My only minor complaint is that the controls are a little stiff at first.

Good for Older Kids . I bought this for a five year old as a playdough substitute, which now I know it is not! This is clay for modeling or making figures, not for rolling out and using cookie cutters on. It sticks to the surface it is used on and must be warmed up and kneaded, which younger kids don't usually have the patience for. Fine for kids six and above.

Doesn't dry out . Purchased 2 years ago as a Christmas present for my then 3-year-old and 5-year-old. The kids still used their play doh to make play-cookies and other soft items. This was used to mold items. The best part for me was that it didn't dry out. It lasted longer than the play doh simply because of that. But it's so plastic-y that it seems odd, espcially if you are used to play doh, like we are. But it's something different and good, cheap filler item for presents.

hours of fun . My daughter (8 years old) and son (4 years old) spent most of the holiday playing with this type clay. Love the fact it won't dry out.

The Original is Better and Bigger too! . Even though it has the toy story packaging, this one is nothing like the original. This one is smaller and doesn't work as well. A little disappointing because it does not erase well when you shake it, making it harder to see what drawings you created.

Don't buy this or pay extra for this because it says it is a Toy Story. Toy Story is only on the outside packaging that you will throw away. The actual toy itself is just a conventional etch a sketch, the same design for the last 40 years.
