Great product for a creative child . This was a birthday gift for my 5 year old granddaughter. She has a huge nack for creativity and has loved making pitures for all the windows in the house. I highly recommend this for children who are inspired artist or to encourage creativity.

A delightful fantasy rewrite of pre-history . In "What Happened to Patrick's Dinosaurs" the author takes us on a pleasant romp through the imagination of a dinosaur lover. Patrick tells his brother Hank of the times when Dinosaurs did all the work for their beloved humans, making them cars, roads, and houses. Although his brother Hank tries to correct and question Patrick, Patrick has an answer for everything, logical and intreguing.The illustrations in the book are a delight as well. From cloud formations and star contellations in the shape of dinasaurs, to pictures of dinosaurs wearing clown make-up to put on a show.

I loved this book . I loved this book because they had a lot of fun and had a lot of details and it was very interest and funny to me.

For lovers of dinos and wild imaginations! . I bought this book for my 5-year-old who had recently become very fond of dinosaurs. What I didn't realize is how closely the character Patrick would mirror my son. My son can make up stories all day about incredible things. I was actually a little bit concerned that he lacked a grasp on reality. Listening to Patrick weave a detailed far-fetched story about how dinosaurs and man lived together one time with the dinosaurs taking care of the people like pets and then what finally became of them, I realized that my son was a normal after all! :-)The story is well written from the child's point of view and entertaining for both children and adults. I don't give this good review lightly. I have been seriously disappointed in most of what passes for children's literature these days and this book is the kind of story that makes it fun to read and listen to.

This edition is staple-bound . First, regarding the 3 stars -- the book itself is wonderful and deserves at least 5 stars, but this particular edition of the book (ISBN 0-440-84404-5) is crummy, and deserves 0 stars.

I borrowed the hardcover edition (ISBN 0-89919-406-0) of this title from the library, and we liked it so much I decided to buy a used one. The hardcover is out of print and was running around $20 used when I looked, so I went with this paperback edition.

Little did I know it was a crummy staple-bound book club edition. In addition to the cheap binding, the paper stock is also much cheaper than the harcover's paper, so the wonderful illustrations don't look as good. The library book isn't due back yet, so I have both here to compare them side by side. The paper on the staple-bound edition is also so thin that illustrations on the other side of some pages show through too much. On the plus side, the illustrations are the same size as in the hardcover.

Just now. I searched Amazon.com on the hardcover's ISBN (0-89919-406-0), and found them selling for pennies. I ordered one for one cent in excellent condition and not even ex-library. I don't know why that listing didn't show up in my original search a week or so ago, when I searched on the title.

If you are considering buying a used copy of this paperback, I urge you to search Amazon.com on "0-89919-406-0" and buy a used copy of that library hardcover instead.

A lot of work but the kids do like it. . My daughter got this for her 5th birthday. Her and my 3yo love it. However, it's not really a toy they can do on their own. You have to fill the mold then slide in on the track, pop the "walker" in the right spot then turn the crank. As you're getting to the last few turns, it feels like it's going to break. The kids usually stop at this point thinking they're breaking it. The "walker" only ONCE so far has popped out and walked on it's own. I normally have to slide it off the track and open the case in order for it to walk. The walkers also get stuck sometimes, which frustrates my daughter. If you stuff the mold too much, it will not work properly just fyi.
They usually just end up filling the mold, making the animals and sticking the walker in them. I basically have to do all the steps for them if they want it done the way it's supposed to work. Not something I personally would have spent money on, would rather just use molds to be honest.

Moon dough by itself is pretty awesome. They love it, I think it's great but it gets all over the floor. I have to vacuum constantly to keep up with the mess. I also love how it doesn't dry up.

Also this set comes with the dough in plastic packages so you need something of your own to store it in once it's opened.

This toy was obviously designed by someone who does not have children, if solely for the fact that the moon dust simply disperses as soon as it is removed from the bag.Its cute in theory, but for all practical purposes wouldn't last very long as the moon dust would eventually become one with every porous or fibrous surface in the house, clothes, pets, carpets. Best play area would be outside on the deck or in a stainless steel room, so that you can just hose down when your child is done playing with it.Moon dust will not dry out, since, after all, it is just dust. In any case, I threw away the remaining moon dust after about 20 minutes of playing with my daughter and put the plastic parts in with the playdoh set.Engineers should not design stuff they themselves have never worked on, and toy makers should not design stuff that they won't ever have to clean up after."There is no such thing as a fool-proof system. Someone will make a better fool tomorrow."

fun but .... . i bought this and the Dora water wow book for my daughters, age 3+ and 2+ years. it's the 2nd day we're having it, and they still like it. they are pleasantly surprised to see hidden images, but i wonder how much holding power the books will have. it's basically putting water over the pages (using the given brush) and seeing the images. there are four pages in each book, the images vanish when the water dries up and after a while you kinda know what to expect when you paint. i hope they won't be too lazy to do coloring on their own after this - after all, it is so easy to "paint" with these books!

Water books are awesome! . This is such a fun book! My son can't get enough playing time with it. We use it on car trips or for quiet time. The only downside is if your child uses too much water on a page the book starts to saturate and will eventually fall apart... but just don't fill the waterbrush all the way up and you're good!

She loved it! . My daughter absolutely LOVES these kinds of books. And I love how easy and mess-free they are! They can be used over and over again, and require only water. The only problem is that after a while, they begin to fade. The images take longer to show up, and it sometimes gets spots on it where no color appears.But this was after months of almost daily use, and we definitely got our money's worth! I highly recommend it.

Cons Review

Absolutely Wonderful! . My four year old daughter has this Water Wow Doodle Book as well as the Sesame Street and Backyardigans ones. She LOVES them! They are wonderful for keeping her busy at any time whether I'm making dinner or driving the car. The refillable water brish is nice because it will never dry out like some of the markers do that come with similar products. I have read that someone had a problem with them dripping or leaking, but as long as you only squeeze them initially to get the tips damp as the instructions suggest (and don't continue to squeeze them) they will not drip. She takes these when she visits friends and her friends all love them too! I don't ever have to worry about parents being angry because they are completely mess free!

Great DINO book for TODDLERS . My 2 yr. old son loves dinosaurs and we got this book at our library. Practically every page was ripped (seemingly by the hands of other dino-loving toddlers) and mended with strips of tape. I am dreading the return of this book to our library so I am purchasing it for a low price here. It has simple & bright pictures and short text for short attention spans. It even ends with "sleepy dinosaurs" with their eyes closed for that perfect segway to bedtime!

Our favorite book! . This is my son's favorite, and mine too! Although he's only six months old, I've been reading to him almost every day since he was old enough to pay attention, and he has loved this book from the word go - probably because of the bright colors and simple shapes, but maybe also because when I read it to him it's fun to make "dinosaur noises" and roars, which he finds very entertaining. Although I have read this book so often that I have literally memorized it, I'm not tired of it yet, and that's about as high a recommendation for a baby book as I can make!

A "Must Have" . This is literally our son's FAVORITE book. He's 10 months now and we've been reading it to him since he was probably 6 or 7 months old. We read a variety of books - usually 2 or 3 each night - and he usually wants to read this book after all the others. I swear it helps him go to sleep. For younger kids of his age, I highly recommend the board book version if you can get it - it's the perfect size for little hands. I LOVE THIS BOOK!

Bright fun introduction! . What a fun introduction to the world of dinosaurs! And yet with plenty of information to challenge the most avid dinosaur fans--in fact, this is a handy resource for anyone. If nothing else, Barton's crayon-box colors are addicting.

My son's favorite! . This has been my son's favorite book since he was about 8 months old. I was suprised how well he took to it as such an early age. He is now almost 14 months and still can't get enough of it. It is the one book he will look around for and really insist on having at his high chair during meal times. Agree completely with the other reviewers who mentioned how fun it was to make the dinosaur noises and that the "long sharp claws, long sharp teeth" part is especially fascinating for the child. Even when i don't have the book handy, just by saying the opening lines...a long time ago...there were DINOSAURS -- brings a delighted smile to his face every time.

He also enjoys "My Car" by the same author although that book is not as simple (i.e., talks about car needing oil change, obeying traffic laws, etc.).

Dinosaur fun . Excellent book for the young dinosaur fan. Good drawings, informative writing, and definitely keeps the attention of my most active grandchild (age 3)!

Good dinosaur book for young kids . My 3 year old really enjoys this book (he first read it at school). This is great for young kids and toddlers because it doesn't depict dinosaurs as scary monsters. This is the only dinosaur book my son likes because of this. The pictures are very colorful and the story is simple, and each page shows different dinosaurs and their characteristics. This is a great first dinosaur book.

Made in Italy . Excellent markers for the price. I like these better than Crayola - a slightly finer tip with better control. But they are very similar otherwise. Wonderful medium . This is a wonderful medium for working on paper. The Carn d'Ache company also makes Mr. color Face Paints, which work the same way yet use pigments that are 100% safe for using on skin. According to them, the watercolor crayons contain pigments that are not. They nonetheless excite users of all ages as they glide onto paper in bright colors after simply dipping in water.

Great colour brightness . This products only fault is that it comes under the category of "Toy" ??? Not sure about that Amazon. Anyway, I'm very pleased with the colour brightness and coverage of this product. The pastels are very smooth to work with and are so easy to work with in a sketching type fashion as well as blending colour. I would consider buying a lot more of these to increase my colour range. The price is a bit much when you see the size of the tin they come in, but the quality of the product is there.

Caran d'Ache Neocolor II Water Soluable Pastels (10 Colors) Opinions
They make nice face paints! . I purchased these for a children's event that I volunteered to do face painting for. All I used was a small container of water, a paper towel to blot off excess and a mirror for the kids to see their designs when done. No messy brushes! This kit had all the vivid colors I needed and I just sharpen them with a pencil sharpener when the tips get dull. Glides on skin easily, blends in and can use one color on top of another. They dry quick too. Easily comes off skin with a wet wipe or soapy water.

Great Great product! . I used Caran D'Ache watercolor crayons as a child for ALL my face-painting needs...my mom worked at a specialty toy store, so we got a sample set to try out. All these years (15!) later I have my own kids and had to dig into my memory bank to remember those amazing "face paints" that I once used. I googled the name and found them for the cheapest price at this site. I KNOW they are not technically to be used for face painting, but WOW do they work great! Love, love, love them. After painting an entire class of kindergartner's faces, they still look like brand new. A little goes a LONG LONG way. Highly recommended if you can ignore the price a bit...but they are worth it!
