Merry Christmas Curious George . My son (almost 3) loves this book and we have to read it almost every night before bed, since I got it around Thanksgiving. :)

Consistent with the original Curious George series . Excellent book. My 6 & 7 year olds are still Curious George fans and both enjoyed this book. Even though the book is not written by H.A. and Margret Rey, it is certainly consistent with their original series in the innocent mischief of this friendly monkey at a hospital at Christmas time.

Curious George is pure "Curious" in this Christmas gift to children.

As usual his curiosity gets him into situations that make children laugh. First he and his friend in the yellow hat went to a Christmas tree far to select their special tree. Of course George could not stop being curious, jumping from to tree, finally to the tallest tree.

When men come to cut down this tree, George is hiding in the tallest branches and cannot escape so he is taken along with the tree to a children's ward at a hospital.

George livened up these sick children's lives, making them smile and even laugh as they decorated the tree. Of course, he drove the staff a little crazy with his antics.

Mischievous Curious George was brought to lift more than 60 years ago by Margret and H.A. Rey. Think how many generations of children he has entertained. Are you one of them?

Fun Story for My Nephew . My four year old nephew is a faithful curious George fan. He loves the books and the television programs. As my nephew is a curious little fellow who sometimes gets into trouble for his own investigations, he finds a kindred spirit in the cheeky little monkey who always tumbles into his adventures.

My nephew loves to hear this story (over and over and over), and he loves to discuss all the items in the book's richly, clever illustrations--especially when George first decorates the tree with items he finds in the children's hospital---X-rays, crutches, cups, cards, medical supplies! One of his favorite story moments is when the nurse is picking up the naughty monkey to remove him from the hospital. Ah, but the children and my nephew beg for him to stay!

Reading to children is important. Reading builds personal connection, observation, critical thinking, and language in ways that today's loud, obnoxious video games and automated toys do not. The Curious George books continue teach and reach generations of children. They are a family favorite here, and they are always welcomed.

A bonus of this book is that my nephew is learning some health / hospital vocabulary in a fun, non-threatening way. This book opens the door to talk to children about children who might be sick or hurt or who might have to have extended stays in the hospital. It allows for a discussion about why some people may need X-Rays, crutches, canes, wheelchairs, etc. With adult guidance, a child can learn empathy and compassion for others through this book. Of course, bringing comfort and cheer to those who need it the most also speaks to the spirit of Christmas.

The book is a lovely edition to my nephew's library of favorite tales. We believe that fans of Curious George Goes to the Hospital would enjoy this Christmas book.

Cheaper than After Christmas Sales! . I got a copy of this book after Christmas at Target. I paid a lot more for it than on this site. I found the same book here and shipped to home for less than what I paid for at the after Christmas sales. I wish I could buy all of my Christmas presents this way.

A nice Christmas story . This book was a nice addition to our Christmas Book Advent Calendar. This is the first year I did the Book Calendar so I had to buy at least half of the books to round out the stack we already owned from previous years gifts. In typical George fashion he gets into some kind of mischief that ends up working out in a happy way. In this book George gets stuck in a Christmas tree that makes its way to a children's hospital where George tries to help decorate it and make the gifts look better by changing around the bows and name tags. Of course this makes one of the nurses mad and when she is escorting George out, all of the children at the hospital are cheered up by his silly antics and beg her to let him stay. It's a nice enough book with even a visit from Santa thrown in and my daughter seemed to enjoy it, which is the most important part.

Great Christmas Book Choice Consistent With Original Books . This is an adorable Christmas book for fans of Curious George. Although not written by the original Curious George creators, it is true to their vision in spirit. George is out with the Man in the Yellow Hat looking for a Christmas tree when he ends up stuck in one as it gets cut down, and taken to the children's ward of a hospital. George decides to use hospital supplies, and ribbons and tags from the presents in the room, to decorate the tree, creating lots of havoc. Sweet and fun.

Wonderfull book. . I got this book for my son last Christmas and he loves it. He loves all of his CG books but this one is one of his favorites. He reads it throughout the year so it is not just limited to Christmas time. A must have if you are a CG fan.

Another Great Book About George! . My 3.5yr old is currently obsessed with Curious George. We have 2 collections of his books and go to the library for the rest. When I saw this, I thought it would be perfect for his annual xmas photo that includes a book. The book is always what he is into at that point if I can help it. It arrived today and we began reading immediately. He LOVED it! He has a photographic memory when it comes to books and, right after I finished reading, he "read" it to me. I see this as our new favorite bedtime story!

Love Curious George . My son loves the Curious George show on PBS, so when we saw this book for Christmas we had to have it! It is the typical Curious George with George causing some trouble but later on there is a good lesson in it. If your child likes George, then they would love this book. Great for the holiday season.

Must have for art projects! . This is one of the favorite Do-a-Dot books that I have on hand when my granddaughters visit. The Do-a-Dot markers and these books make for a wonderful art project that is easy for little ones to do. During their last visit, they "dotted" several pictures for Papa to hang in his office. The pages are easy to tear out and thick enough that the colors do not bleed through.

Kids love this . I had ordered the "might truck" do-a-dot acitivity book for my son and decided to get this one for my daughter (5 and 1/2). She likes it and the pages are thick so it works great with the do-a-dot markers. A bit pricey for the amt of pages, but still worth it.

good dot book . We do a lot of dots. Kids keep busy by themselves with these! But... you will want to join in! They are fun and you can do some nice art with these. My 3 year old art looks as good if not better than my 8 year old. Once you try dots you will see how that can happen. This book is great for a 3 year old but also detailed enough for the older kids. Also pics that interest both boys and girls. There is a crab, light house, sea horse dragon for example that is good for a boy. Mermaids that the girls like. A good book!

A couple dozen CIvil War projects for young students to do in class . "Great Civil War Projects You Can Build Yourself" is a prime example of the supplemental books that are out there for teachers to get ideas for projects their students can do for a particular unit. Maxine Anderson provides a brief introduction to the Civil War that talks about how it all began and who were some of the important political and military leaders on both sides, but obviously a history textbook is going to give young students more details (i.e., the names, dates, and places that students will need to know on the test). But the two main sections of the book are devoted to projects that help students understand what live was like on the battlefield and on the homefront.

There is some background material for these products, so this is not just a "How to" book. The first section of "On the Battlefield" looks at bands and music during the Civil War before providing a pair of projects where you get to make your own Civil War bugle and drum. In the first half of the book there are projects for making a pinhole camera; a Union Fort Sumter, South Carolina Palmetto, and/or California 100 flag; the ironclads "Monitor" and "Virginia"; a lean-to shelter; a paddlewheeler; periscope; telegraph; and signal flags. There is also the opportunity to make some battlefield food from Union hardtack (if the students have been misbehaving I suppose), Confederate Johnny Cakes (spread with butter or molasses, which, as Anderson points out, was "a treat Confederates didn't often get), or the cornbread popular on both sides. Anderson even explains how to make your own Union or Confederate jacket, as well as a forage cap or Zouave fez, which might be more reasonable.

The "On the Homefront" section looks at how civilians deal with hardships and deprivations during the war. The projects consist of making your own berry ink and handmade paper; four patch quilt block, pillow or wall hanging, and/or four patch quilt; corn husk, rag, and/or hanky dolls; fan or cameo; banjo or tambourine; and Underground Railroad lantern. This time the food related projects consist of making your own fruit dehydrator, molasses taffy, and rock candy.

For each project Anderson provides a list of "What You'll Need," and step-by-step instructions on "What To Do." The back of the book has Templates for Projects, such as circles, squares and stars to go along with some of the key elements in the flags. Throughout the book there are reminders to "Know Your Slang," so that you will learn "web feet" is a term the cavalry had for the infantry and a "housewife" was your sewing kit. You will also find Civil War Facts & Trivia (e.g., President Lincoln had to cross the street from the White House to check telegraph messages) scattered throughout the book, along with dozens of informative sidebars where Anderson talks about everything from photographer Mathew Brady and inventor John Ericsson to the color uniforms used to different branches on the battlefield and Southern food prices.

There appear to be only two other titles in the Build It Yourself series to date, "Great Colonial American Projects You Can Build Yourself" and "Amazing Leonardo Da Vinci Inventions You Can Build Yourself," but hopefully there will be more in the future because it would be nice for history teachers to have more choices for incorporating these sort of projects into various units. Obviously you do not have to do all of them, but there are certainly enough in this volume that you could do a couple of different ones each year for a while before you started repeating yourself (unless, of course, you get really hooked on something like making your own rock candy or pinhole camera).

Cool Book for Kids . We all know that a great way for kids--and adults--to learn new information or a new skill is to take book knowledge and apply it. This book offers readers many opportunities to sew, build, construct, and cook up items applicable to the Civil War, using ordinary objects. Who knew you could easily fashion a bugle from garden hose or a periscope from a milk carton?! I also enjoyed the trivia and slang terms that are sprinkled throughout the book. I now know a "hospital rat" is someone who fakes an illness!

Kids, and adults, will get a lot out of this book. And teachers can put it to great use in the classroom.

Beyond the Textbook . We have just finished our unit on the Civil War. The projects in this book are fantastic. My eighth graders used many of them to create a Civil War museum. They then presented their museum to fourth graders using their artifact to teach a key aspect of the Civil War. Even my most reluctant learners did an exceptional job. I highly recommend this book to any teacher of American History and/or any student

Great Book . This is a very informative book not only for kids, but also adults. Being a Civil War reenactor, I am always being asked questions, but sometimes not know the answers. Every chapter has a bit of trivia and facts, that most people dont know. So now I come back with some of this trivia when asked something I dont know. I believe this would be a great aid for teachers. Not only are there fun and neat projects, but alot of slang words that were common during the civil war. Each project has a story and history behind it. I mainly bought the book for my kids, but now they cannot get it away from me.

Classic Coloring Entertainment . I purchased this book many years ago to use in my classroom with teenagers and it has held up very well. One thing that you should know is that there are 2 pages of every design in the book. Many of the pictures have a central design (girl with urn, horse, flower, Viking ship) surrounded by repetitive geometric designs. Students enjoy using a variety of coloring patterns to complete these interesting pictures. I would highly recommend for those who love to color within the lines.

Educational and for Young At Hearts . YES, I had purchased this book three times, I am thinking about going for it for the 4th? Why?For one thing, it will drive you batty; for indeed there are some pages like the front cover shown; of repetitions. But just because a pattern repeats itself does not mean that the "artist" must follow the same repetitive pattern whatsoever, hence, the very nature and reason why I ended up purchasing this book the 2nd time, then 3rd time... and the temptation is hard not to resist to go for it for the 4th time.For Teachers and Educators: This is an excellent way for the youth can explore their creative minds; with your teaching expertise, informing them just because it is so does not necessarily mean it has to be so with provisions of examples. An excellent ideas would be "Abstract" versus "Realistic" versus "Surreal". What makes this so great is, there is no "right or wrong". Indeed there is a color-wheel, but just because there is a color-wheel, superimposed, the implications has no merit or meaning in a creative mind.In one of my books, I actually did a lithographic stereotype coloring, in other words, everything was in reversed; so what should have been the background was the foreground and the foreground became the background. Easier said than done.

math books . I got this to see what they were like. I have a lot of nieces and nephews, and I love to buy this stuff for them when I can. I didn't find the instructions to be very clear. For example, I still don't know what on earth to do with things not beyond the decimal point. How do I explain that to them if they need it? (Well, their parents anyway.) It will be enjoyable for them though. They love to color. And not all appreciate math. The squares are not the best size, but the spaces to do the problems are. The graphs show up words one said Try Out, but I must of done something wrong cause the Y was missing...? (A problem do to the missing instructions.) Overall, this is a seemingly good book,and I will be buying this series for possibly all..18 of them. Do the math on that... Seriously, it is a decent book.

This type of product also lends itself to familiarity with other mathematical terminology as well. It enables practice in the area of graphing, too. The games progress in difficulty. Those Poor Helpless Dads . Douglas Wood and Doug Cushman have gotten together and authored a terrific book about Dads. These poor creatures would be lost without their little ones to help them. Dads can't cross streets without holding hands, they're always found right away in a game of hide and seek, but they can never find you and they can't comb their hair or shave by themselves. Dads can't see you hiding your lima beans at dinner, can't read books by themselves and sometimes leave a night light on in your room because they're afraid of the dark...(they like to check under the bed and in the closet too). There are just so many things Dad can't do..... Mr Wood really captures the essence of a pre-schooler in this delightful picture book. His sweet and gentle text is complimented by Mr Cushman's expressive and detailed illustrations, as we watch father and son dinosaurs help each other through their day. What Dads Can't Do makes a wonderful father's day gift and many a Dad will be charmed as he shares this book with his little dinosaur. There is one thing Dads are really the best at...They never stop loving you!

Super Book . This book touched me the moment I started reading it. I am a father of two children and could relate to the "dad" in this book easily. This book has a beautiful message about the love father's have for their children.

good quiet activity . This is a fun, quiet activity. Some of the coloring areas are tiny, so you'll need sharp, colored pencils. Some of the colors are quite specific (magenta), so you'll need the large pack of pencils. Make sure the pencils have the color names. I don't know if fine-tipped markers will bleed through. If your child loves coloring, they'll like this product. Also, there are plenty of color-by-number pages AND pages for your child to be creative with their own color choices.

Great count by number book . I bought this for my 5-year old son for Christmas and he loves it. Be aware that there are some pages without numbers so that you can color them as you like, but he doesn't like those pages as much. I would highly recommend this for kids.

Addicting . I bought this for my 7 year old son for Christmas and he loves it! The problem is, so do I. I found myself finishing his pictures after he went to bed or we would be working on the same picture at the same time and bumping into each other. I finally gave in and bought Landscapes so that we could each have our own book! I find it very relaxing after a stressful day at work. I bought the Mindware markers to go with it so we would have plenty of colors.

great but lower quality paper . I love this book. Color-by-numbers are so hard to find that are somewhat difficult. The pictures are so beautiful and great for children or adults. The only problem is the paper, Markers bleed through. I use Pic Mark It pens and have to tear out the pages before I color them. My 12-year-old cousin spent 3 hours working on a picture and was so proud of himself and he usualy hates coloring but these books pulled him in. I have now bought the whole set for his birthday.

Color Counts . Bought few different Mindware coloring books for my kids (10,8,5) for the holidays. This is the one they all preferred. I had to call around locally to find another one pronto so coloring time could be the quiet activity I had hoped it would be! The pictures come out really pretty. Like that some sheets are not numbered so one can make his/her own color choices.

HOURS OF FUN . In simple words, my 10 year old granddaughter says this dot to dot book is AWESOME!!!!!Loves the fact that you don't know what the picture is until you're finished.Oops!! This review was supposed to be for Mindware Dot to Dot Animals. I did purchase Color Counts Animals; however, she has just begun to color the first picture. It looks like this book will be as fun as the dot to dot.

Exciting . I ordered all the the Mimdwear Books I couldfind at Amazon for Christmas, and as I looked at them I was very pleased with the content and the exterior, they seem to be top quality - I would recommend these in a heartbeat. I am sure my little granddaughter will love them come Christmas morning.

Had this book before purchase this for a gift . I just can't wait to see how the eyes are going to pop wide open once the person opens this gift. While yes, it is numbered and you can color it by number ....But HEY ADULTS - who says you had to follow the directions? Like Murphy's Law ... isn't Rules Made to be Broken? :-DGo Wild and Zany and use your own imagination even though it does have a side bar list of what color it is supposed to go where, but if you have had this book before, what the heck, you already know what it is ... get it again and use your mind and creativeness! Who says you have to play it by the book? Errr ... well it is the book - ha ha ha ha ha ....I am curious to know if the unsuspected party is going to follow the rules or break the rules? *grins*OOPS? Did you blunder? That's okay, because this book also has another page sans the numbers .. goodie goodie - double the fun!

A delightful fantasy rewrite of pre-history . In "What Happened to Patrick's Dinosaurs" the author takes us on a pleasant romp through the imagination of a dinosaur lover. Patrick tells his brother Hank of the times when Dinosaurs did all the work for their beloved humans, making them cars, roads, and houses. Although his brother Hank tries to correct and question Patrick, Patrick has an answer for everything, logical and intreguing.The illustrations in the book are a delight as well. From cloud formations and star contellations in the shape of dinasaurs, to pictures of dinosaurs wearing clown make-up to put on a show.

I loved this book . I loved this book because they had a lot of fun and had a lot of details and it was very interest and funny to me.

For lovers of dinos and wild imaginations! . I bought this book for my 5-year-old who had recently become very fond of dinosaurs. What I didn't realize is how closely the character Patrick would mirror my son. My son can make up stories all day about incredible things. I was actually a little bit concerned that he lacked a grasp on reality. Listening to Patrick weave a detailed far-fetched story about how dinosaurs and man lived together one time with the dinosaurs taking care of the people like pets and then what finally became of them, I realized that my son was a normal after all! :-)The story is well written from the child's point of view and entertaining for both children and adults. I don't give this good review lightly. I have been seriously disappointed in most of what passes for children's literature these days and this book is the kind of story that makes it fun to read and listen to.

Do you know what happened to the dinosaurs? If not, then you should read What Happened To Patrick's Dinosaurs. First, Patrick rakes leaves. Next, his brother ask a question. Then they talk about dinos. Finally they be lazy. I like this book because it has good illustrations.

This edition is staple-bound . First, regarding the 3 stars -- the book itself is wonderful and deserves at least 5 stars, but this particular edition of the book (ISBN 0-440-84404-5) is crummy, and deserves 0 stars.

I borrowed the hardcover edition (ISBN 0-89919-406-0) of this title from the library, and we liked it so much I decided to buy a used one. The hardcover is out of print and was running around $20 used when I looked, so I went with this paperback edition.

Little did I know it was a crummy staple-bound book club edition. In addition to the cheap binding, the paper stock is also much cheaper than the harcover's paper, so the wonderful illustrations don't look as good. The library book isn't due back yet, so I have both here to compare them side by side. The paper on the staple-bound edition is also so thin that illustrations on the other side of some pages show through too much. On the plus side, the illustrations are the same size as in the hardcover.

Just now. I searched Amazon.com on the hardcover's ISBN (0-89919-406-0), and found them selling for pennies. I ordered one for one cent in excellent condition and not even ex-library. I don't know why that listing didn't show up in my original search a week or so ago, when I searched on the title.

If you are considering buying a used copy of this paperback, I urge you to search Amazon.com on "0-89919-406-0" and buy a used copy of that library hardcover instead.
