Useful product for teaching true mosaic technique . I bought this mosaic kit as a craft to complement the lesson about the Byzantine Empire for my son, whom I am homeschooling. I was very happy and relieved to find a product that uses real stone, real mosaic technique (e.g. filling the space between the tesserae with grout) and traditional patterns. All the other products available (I am referring to mosaic kits for kids) use foam 'tesserae' and simply have kids glue them to a pattern. This kit comes with stone tesserae, glue, grout and a stout base for the pattern. My son is enjoying it tremendously, especially knowing that the byzantines used pretty much the same technique to create the wonderful mosaics he saw at the museum.The only other comment I can make is that there is only one base included and the patterns are double sided - therefore you need to photocopy the one on the reverse before using the one on the averse. You also need to make your only base for the other three patterns, since the mosaic remains attached to the wooden base. But it is not a big deal, and the kit would have been much heavier with four wooden bases.Overall, a very good and useful product.
